This video was very helpful in supporting my conclusion made from a research project on whether or not violence in the media has a harmful affect on children who are exposed to the types of programs in today's world. I agree that parents must take into consideration how their children will react to the programs and then determine if they are suitable for their child.
When watching violent television, or playing video games, or when “good is fighting against evil” or vice versa, most people think it is just entertainment. But is it “just entertainment” to watch someone being destroyed/killed, because it is just acting? Or is it because we are glorifying what we believe to be courageous or self preserving actions ? The problem is that while this is all happening, the mind experiences emotions connected to the visual imagery it is receiving, along with the music and sounds created to simulate reality. Entertaining scenes and emotional feelings, all intertwining with actions and images of excitement and violence. And when you are involved in either playing a video game, or watching something you like on television. Your brain is unable to hear or see the things that are going on around you. You become oblivious to your surroundings This hypnotic effect, which is constantly engaging the subconscious mind, in turn, causes the conscious mind to become desensitised to violence. You may think that you are not being affected by any of it. But as soon as you feel pressured for any reason, you react aggressively, by swearing or throwing a tantrum, expecting others to either make your life easier, or by doing things for you, like organising things for you, or by just leaving you alone. What is interesting to learn however, is that reading a book, does not cause or lead to any of these reactions occurring, nor contribute to desensitised feelings towards violence. But, if someone happens to interrupt you in the throes of a video game, or while you are intensely watching something you enjoy on television, then out of spite, you are more likely to become quarrelsome, either outwardly or inwardly. Almost, as if you were been pulled away from the real world. My belief, is that violence in games and in movies, lead to aggressive, or passive-aggressive personality disorder.
Strawberry Orphan That's an interesting side step, subtly changing the subject by focusing attention or maybe blame on the mentally ill. If generations of children are brought up to think that violence in stressful situations is normal or as most believe entertaining. Then how will those children as adults respond in stressful situations? This also applies to the mentally ill. What we teach children and what happens to children, affects them for the rest of their lives, if a person has difficulties in their behaviour as adults, it can usually be traced back to their childhood. Also known as cause and effect. Giving someone "more attention" will be, all we ever do, without solving the problem. By ignoring the cause of a problem, we guarantee in effect, no solution to the problem.
Strawberry Orphan It seems like you are saying, because violence has always existed. Then, we should just accept it, as normal behaviour. And because humans need to protect themselves from violence, then we need to accept violence as normal behaviour. The problem here, is that by accepting something as natural, we no longer see the evil that exists in that thing. There is nothing that you can do, or should do, to quell the infection from growing.
Hey Ziane call it bullshit all you want, statistics show that violence in mass media has the great potential of controlling ones own emotions, actions and beliefs.

Perfect reason for the violence related to the television
Strawberry Orphan I'd like to hear your reason as to why you love violence in children's television programs?
