I ran into Snoop randomly at a Safeway in the Baltimore suburbs. She was cool as hell, took a few minutes to chop it up with my son and I. Just as cool as you'd expect.

The greatest thing about The Wire is it's one of the few pieces of media that developed and humanized the "bad guys" just as much as the "good guys." Bodie killed his friend Wallace in cold blood and faced no consequences but even at the time of his demise, I was still hoping Bodie would get out of the life. Or Avon's "He a man today." or the scene with is comatose brother and D'Angelo or "How my hair look, Mike? You look good, girl."
I watched the corner and was stuck in the wire after that. The shows hit a spot that were untouched in society like how that guy on the corner became a hardcore user or how his son followed suit even after seeing the damage of the life. I haven’t seen nothing close to the corner or the wire on tv since.
I loved the way it linked everything, drugs, ports, police, politics, poverty. It showed it’s not as simple as the dealers being responsible for everything
Bodie continued his life in the streets, but as he got older he fell to his heroin habit. He ended becoming one of thee leaders in the Maryland chapter of BGF in the Maryland prison system. Uncle Bodie (which became known as across the streets) died 3 years ago "old age"
The beauty of the Wire was that nobody was flat and type casted. The criminals weren’t always the “bad guys”. Nor were they made to be lovable hood guys. Same with the cops. One could say Snoop and Marlo might have been some what flat, but they needed to be. They represented to soul less “new gangster” who honored no code and had serial killer tendencies

I just watched the entire 5 seasons of The Wire now, in 2024, and can't stop thinking about it. It has stayed like a permanent mark on my soul, dove into my mind and sunk into my body. Wish the show would return; one of the finest bit of television ART I have ever seen, and oh-so-true-to-life. Broke my heart but *somehow* gave me HOPE, I don't know why.
I just finished it today and I feel exactly the same. I held off looking any on yt that to do with it so it didnt spoil the show for and im so glad I waited. truly an amazing show.
The only thing I wish is that they didn't let the character get killed off, as that would have been reflected of his real survival and change. He survived and found redemption in righteous living and sharing his truth with others.
Getting killed by an 8 year old while buying chips at the store is pretty poetic though, it's a tragic irony kinda thing. Everyone afraid, trying to get him, and he falls to the 8 year old

The wire did what the Sopranos did, it humanized the underworld, it showed us that the people we see on the news are just like us in a lot of ways. They like the same food as us, have family problems, make jokes, have families, loved, cried, and lived lives. It humanized an entire city of people.
