Congratulations for finishing the build-up of your awesome unimog and thank you for sharing all the episodes!! Hopefully you will take us with you on long trips in the future. Greetings from Germany.
It is unbelievable ... he also have a Unimog ;)) This guy is one of a kind, ingenious! The engine must have thought at 87km/h, "oh, Blitzkrieg or retreat again?" ;)
It sounds like you have a fuel knock. Maybe you need your injectors serviced to make sure they are metering properly and the timing is correct. You also seem to be burning oil. Great looking vehicle. Good luck with your Unimog.
Yes correct I have fixed it with new injectors! Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate such input. It is not burning oil. Right now it is running really great. And the engine doesn't smoke anymore and has some good power for a non turbo. I do 90+ km/h pretty easy now.
Oh how i hated those loud & small 404 driver cabins.Lucky enough in my draft year my new service vehicle was a new 1300gl unimog with AC radio shelter on the bed.
I am really excited to see what the top speed will be of my unimog 404 project. It has a BHW 2005 Passat 2.0 TDI engine with stage 2 tuning and the rev limiter is set to around 5000rpm. It has crazy power now 295ft/lb and can spin the tires in 3rd taking off on dry hot pavement.
Please keep it on the highway around 80km/h with the right oil in the gearbox. The gearbox is not build for so much more power. Please be careful ☺️ My topspeed on GPS is around 100km/h and did ones 105km/h
my 404.0 with 617.912 drives near 115 K/H but as i do it the the Keilrienmen for waterpump and generator went a way at the highway ,as i left the unimog a police stopped ,and drive me to the next Trainstation ,Red light from genertor ... next day i came back for repair outside the highway ...
Hello Victor!! I love your videos. I have also just completed the restoration of a Unimog 416. I am trying to decide if it is worth putting sound insulation like Dynamat to help reduce the noise in the cabin. What do you think?
I just got some 2.5mm and 4mm sound dampening plates. And if you knock your finger to the metal you can check which make the most sound. For example my hood makes alot of knocking noise. But if I just put a 4mm plate on it. Then the sound is really dampening. So yes it will help. After my repainting I will put it on the panels that make the most noise. On the inner engine cover I will put alot. Under the hood 1 big piece. The sides plates behind the doors will get plates. And on the rear wall I will put some. I will make a video of the process!
you get a porsche not an unimog if you want to go fast. It is not a passenger car it is a truck. drive with the trucks. I overtake all trucks in the Netherlands
@@unimog404 Thanks but I don't consider 100km/h to be fast, but the bare minimum for highway traffic here in Southern California. A few weeks ago I drove a diesel 20ft stakebed truck, with 2500 lbs in the back and did 65mph from San Diego to Los Angeles.. ~90 miles. I'm not saying I'd want to do 60-70 all the time, just that I would want one that is capable of it without feeling like I was redlining it and blowing seals. Also, if you haven't seen it yet, check out the new R2.8 Cummins turbo diesel crate engine. It's really nice but may be a little small for a Unimog. It's 161hp / 310 lb-ft torque. I've been thinking of dropping one in my 94' toyota ex-cab 4x4.
some hho will mayyyybe give a tiny bit more power but will for sure increase engine longevity. if you use solar panels to power the HHO processor greater chance it will give you little more power because the processor will not cause the alternator to need to work harder... which without solar; adds work to the engine which tends to negate the tad bit more power you could get from using hho. even if you only use the HHO on hills / long grades where the hho helps give you more complete combustion of fuel in the cylinders...... it will still help keep engine clean (cylinders and rings)
Ummmm 0.5% unburned Diesel is black smoke territory and the calorific value is whatever it is. What stops premature ignition and detonation damage if throwing hydrogen / oxygen mixture into a Diesel combustion chamber with likely a few glowing carbon deposits ? And are you saying the electrolyser only works going downhill using the alternator selectively as a brake ? PV is fine in principle, but surely better deployed charging Victor's house battery to avoid using engine power?
@@unimog404 Usually involves you paying money for a device to electrolyse water into hydrogen and oxygen (taking electricity produced at low efficiency from your alternator ) . You feed the gas into your air intake for claimed miracle improvements. I stay securely within the laws of thermodynamics and keep away....... Beware also of ' fuel catalysts ' or magnets lashed to your fuel pipes claiming to extract more energy. For economy you are better inflating your tyres to max permitted pressure for highway use, keeping your speed down ( not hard I think! ) and minimizing braking.
@@philhealey449 Phil you guys kill me with your "I stick with science" bull shiat. I've seen science (of the time) disproved before (don't even try to guess the area of science.) Scientist now agree they were wrong. Reality it works..... not to the degree many claim (they are bull shiat too) but in cleaning engine/"small " likely not noticeable combustion improvement but maybe on a upgrade yes and over a lifespan yes adding 50k extra miles on your engine, yes. those add up. You are correct about alternator... as I mentioned the gains are typically erased by the increased load on the alternator.... hince the solar recommendation. Your also right that the solar should top off the house batts first.... so don't kick the hho till after. Not that hard to do.
btw..... when it fits...... grab yourself a Turbo diesel..... and on occasion take steps to rebuild it. then it is ready when your installed NA engine starts to degrade. Just swap em out

The raw Mog ! Nice work... 😊👍
Very NICE!! Greetings from Germany :)
Super cool how the unimog is coming together! Really look into what the new paint job is gonna do.
Yes it will be the same color but just a new fresh layer :)
i forgot you had uploaded video about the unimog hehe :D am watching now :D Nice to see your Dad :)
Thanks 😊
around 4:36 .. those flat unpaved roads, that's proper "highway" where Mogs can dominate, right?

What a fun ride, blasting 87kmh!! Really nice offroad area aswell!
Yes it was alot of fun!
My 1959 404 Perkins 4.203 powered reached 80 KmH so far driving in city traffic, not yet tested in long distance trip. Works like a swiss watch.
Top Victor! Mooie aanpassingen gedaan, succes!

@@unimog404 hello. My engine is also smoking a lot. Where can I find new injectors?
So cool, awesome to see her roaring along at 80km! But can she hit 88 and go back to the future???
Haha 😄
Brave man! I don’t think I ever took mine above 65kmh or so 😂
I see you can have a quiet conversation during this test. I like the horn
Congratulations! Looks like you had fun!

How high is your fuel consumption in l/100km?
Prachtig prachtig
Bart is hooking down the. Autobahn.
Most impressive stuff. A real All-wheel-drive. I wonder if it will go faster than 88 KMH in reverse?
Ok, what has to be done to get one of these to do over 100kmh? I'm in USA and our highway speeds are at least that to 120kmh. (60 - 70 mph)

nice truck but you are reving that engine way to high diesels usually red line at 3000-4000 rpm
This is a short piston high revving diesel engine. Redline is 5200rpm. It is an unique diesel engine.
That's not a 404! 😣 It's something with a Diesel engine. 🚛 (My real 404 from 1955 runs 95 km/h - but I don't do that any longer.)
And also powersteering! :D and it is still a 404 but just with an engine that bring me further per liter fuel :)
my diesel 404 mog could do 110 km /h
Which Engine and tires?
