  • We need to get our pigs into next years garden to start rooting up all the weeds and tilling up all the soil. We didn't want to install a permanent fence for them as we want to be able to move them around so we built this mobile pen out of Hog Panel. It will work great for training them on electric fence which we will be setting up soon so they dont try and root under the fence. After we rotate them thru the garden area we will put them into the pasture to start rooting up the perrenial grasses and plant a variety of legumes, grasses, vetch etc. Hog Panel is readily available and considering how well they work very affordable!

    We purchased all our Hog Panel and the attachment spirals at Edge Wholesale in Langley.

    Or you could just try listening to your heart and not slaughter much lovded family pets..that have 98% the same DNA as you...its ok to not kill pets you bought to eat...just means you have a heart and don't traumatise your children....just another option..no I'm not vegan.

      It's not traumatizing. Let's not forget or be blind to how we get our food.

    At what age will the pigs challenge the panels (rubbing on them causing them to move)?
    I've been doing it the hard way: two posts per panel into rocky ground.
    Thanks for the idea, think I will try it after the piglets are weaned.

    • @philandhannahslittlefarm1464
      @philandhannahslittlefarm1464  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We left them till they were 250 lbs as we didn't mind them moving it around. Not sure how big they were before they could move it.

      @@philandhannahslittlefarm1464 thanks for the reply. Surprising that they respected it so long, but the method looks usable for weaned pigs before sold or trained to electric. Think I will try it in three months.
