I`m gonna root cuttings in solo cups next spring when I prune and get somebody to take me to the church food pantry dropoff and leave a couple of boxes of the trees for people who either can`t afford them or haven`t thought about planting fruit. Surely some will go to good use in the future and help humans and animals.

Field corn is the kind my Pawpaw use to grow. I never knew what the sweet corn in the stores looked like until I got older. That field corn was sweet to me. I could eat my weight in that stuff. He had a big herd of cattle so I'm sure that is why he always grew field corn. My parents and my pawpaw have been gone many, many years. I loved them. But, if God could let me talk to one person that had passed it would be my Pawpaw. I had no idea what a truly great man he was until many years after he passed. He died when I was 18. I would give anything for his knowledge and advice on growing food. He raised a family of 8 with that land. Loved the video. It brings back a lot of memories of when my Pawpaw would carry me or hold my hand in the pasture because I was terrified of those BIG cows. He had mostly Hereford's with a few other breeds. Boy those things seem HUGE when you're little.

Cow’s loved it , we bought cows that had seen humans maybe 1-2 times a year and were spooky. Tamed them down within a month. The magic of good food, even thu in a great pasture. Enjoy watching, cows love corn.

That's a cool field. Pumpkins or squash planted around the outside of the field has been used to stop animals from going into the field for several thousand years. those little pickers break off in paws and between split hoofs and are irritating. A major plus, you get winter squash. Cowpeas (vining) will make a lot of extra nitrogen, as well as extra-foliar nectar to attract predatory insects. Peanuts do well between the stalks as do sweet potatoes. niio

We had a corn crib. Never used refrigeration. Fed chickens and pigs and, I think Birch, granddaddy’s plow mule, would chomp on it. Granddaddy always kept a mule (he was a coal miner as well as a farmer, so LOVED his mules. That’s what they used to pull the coal cars in the mines). By the time I came about, they were using massive machines, of course, but I heard plenty of stories. He had a few old carbide lanterns that fit on your head too. Fill em with carbide pellets and spit on em. Made a flammable gas

Congratulations Danny and Wanda on another year of corn success 🌽. Hard work, persistence and prayers. But those raccoons 🦝 have got to go. What a nuisance.

Try a handful of peanuts in the shell in your live traps. Raccoon magnets.

Hubby had a great time watching you in this video, we are in corn country (NW Illinois) and can appreciate growing corn and remember fun times with my grandparents and eating field corn. My question today is: for your equipment, especially if setting outdoors how you keep from mice making nests in the air cleaners or motor compartment??? We have tried so many things and still fight the mice nesting & chewing on wiring. Any new tips would be appreciated.

Racoons and I don't get along very well, I can go camping and every Racoon within miles will be at my campsite like I am holding a family reunion for them. I have even been challenged by them even in daylight hours standing on back legs advancing and sort of growling of course it doesn't work I'm a hillbilly chances are I might have a butcher knife in one hand. lol Danny and Wanda your cows know they are living the good life.
