  • In an unexpected speech last week, President Biden revealed the details of a secret proposal intended to end the war in Gaza. Perhaps the most surprising thing was where that proposal had come from.
Isabel Kershner, a reporter for The Times in Jerusalem, explains Mr. Biden’s gambit and the difficult choice it presents for Israel’s leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Guest: Isabel Kershner (www.nytimes.co...) , who covers Israeli and Palestinian affairs for The New York Times.
    Background reading:
    • Mr. Biden called for an end to the war in Gaza, endorsing an Israeli cease-fire proposal (www.nytimes.co...) .
    • Mr. Netanyahu answered the call for a truce (www.nytimes.co...) by insisting on the “destruction” of Hamas.

Don't pay attention to the trolls below. The Daily is one of the best news podcasts anywhere. I always learn from your clear reporting & this one was no exception. Hoping this proposed Gaza ceasefire actually happens.

Oct.7th - and the response from the UN and the west, basically killed any possibility that Israel will agree to a palestinien state.
The debate in Israel about the day after is about the end of the two-state and how to integrate the existing Arab population.
People in the west can keep doing what they are - but it is actually counterproductive if they are really working for peace - you have to convince Israelis. . . And the campus protests and the call for boycotts only makes the right stronger.

You're correct. These two can't live near each other. This can go on and on and on or people can start taking about how they disengage permanently.

Israel does NOT want to integrate Arabs into Israel. That would be a one state solution. It wants to kill as many Palestinians it can get away with in Gaza, to annex it, and in the West Bank, to steal land. Just how long do you think Israel will last as an international pariah? It is one generation away from the US saying no more white phosphorous bombs like the ones used in Lebanon now because every country wants to fight a two front war plus " the enemy within". Trust me this Israeli arrogance will be what really poses an isolated Israel an existential threat not motorcycles and paragliders. It's pictures of starving Palestinian children that Senator Sanders shared in Congress this week. And whatever happened to all that fake concern about the hostages? Why is Bibi still in power? Maybe he will be gone before the end of June. Good riddance. He can visit Congress as Israel's former, now disgraced, Hamas supporter and President.

It worked with South Africa. Even if it doesn't work now, in 20 years the kids that are protesting on campuses now, will be in leadership positions of the Democratic party and they will force Israel into giving citizenship to the Arab population. That would be bad news for the Zionist project as it exists today.
BTW most Palestinians and also pro Palestinian activists around the world would be OK with the full integration of the Arab population. That's actually how it should have been from the moment Israel realized the 2 state solution is not acceptable to them anymore.
Another thing I would like to point is if the US and Israel want to push Hamas out of power, they need to release Marwan Barghouti, because he is the only one who can defeat Hamas in an election and have legitimacy as the new Palestinian leader. Other than that, Hamas would remain in power, even if the US stages a new election. It would mean nothing, because Hamas would have the support from the majority of the Palestinian people.

Boycott!! Boycott pharmaceuticals! Israel is the world’s leading exporter of pharmaceuticals (makes sense right??). 1 in 5 Americans are taking prescription psychiatric drugs, which typically have positive short term outcomes and negative, worse than placebo, long term outcomes, but the longterm studies don’t get published, so your dr can’t tell you that.

    • @existentialvoid
      @existentialvoid 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Boycotting only makes sense if you know where you money is going.
China is the leading pharmaceutical exporter - are you going to ban China too? You know they have 2 million Muslims in reeducation camps and have force sterilised a big chunk of their Muslim women.
Or India? Another huge pharmaceutical exporter - you know - Modi? BJP, Kashmir. . .
      See. . . Because it’s only about Israel. . . That’s what makes it anti-Semitic
