I was on the volunteer team putting up tents in accessible, you're right we were told we weren't allowed to even touch peoples tents because of "health and safety " but peoples belongings were getting soaked in the rain and it was just quicker to put the tents up for them.
I sort of understand it from a legal standpoint, but like if someone has a disability and asks for help I feel like you should be allowed to. On a personal note, I've been thinking of volunteering next year, would you recommend it? I've worked events before but all indoor ones.
Yeah camping is great, especially at festivals. But even as festival veterans, we struggled this year at Download. We've been to festivals with worse weather, but this just felt a lot worse under foot
Thank you 😊 having the fancy dress theme be gaming this year, we couldn't not do something to celebrate Fallout. Maybe there's another trip we're going on later in the year that needs more Fallout treatment 👀
This was my first download and I found your channel in the build up and have really enjoyed it, good work! Unfortunately Download itself for me was marred by the bad weather and what we felt was poor organisation. The toilets in red camp were bad and the lack of toilets in the arena was crap too! My wife has a bad back and not having many places to sit during the day really took it out of her, so we had to cut short watching a few sets just to take a break somewhere. Don't think we could do general camping again, if we come back we'll be bringing our camper van to the plus pitches but it starts to get expensive then! Keep up the good work with the channel though, was looking forward to seeing your roundup of the weekend and it was great!
Sorry to hear you had such a difficult time. We love Download, but it's certainly not without its challenges. They really do need better organisation, and certainly more shelter and seating areas in the arena. It's difficult being on your feet all day and when the weather is like what we had this year, not even having somewhere to rest can make it feel a lot harder. Thanks for your kind words 😊
As someone who's been going since 2005 (I've missed three, I think) and seen things good and bad, I can say that they usually alternate in quality every year. One year the toilets are terrible, then the next year they respond to the complaints and improve things, then they don't get as many complaints so they drop the standard again for the next year, rinse and repeat. The only explanation I can find is that the staff turnover for facilities is about 2 years and no one keeps the post-it notes from when it worked.
Thank you Gibby and gang, you smashed it with this video. You have really outdone yourselves! Unfortunately I didn't bump into you at my first DL but I'm sure it's the first of many. I'm really happy that the festival is evolving, the lineup was a big swing for my group to go this year, it's great that they sre finally mixing it up. Funily enough we had a campsite intruder too, some guy who couldn't find his tent at like 10am on the Saturday, it started off funny. We gave him a beer to help him on his way but started talking about how he ripped his tent appart the night before and had medical check up on him and lost the plot. He left eventually after some persuasion no harm done but we were glad to get shot of him after a while. We were in quiet as well. Hope he was alright but pretty odd. Definetly the exception not the rule, we met so many lovely people that weekend from offering us water and beer to being just great humans to chat to. Cheers DL24!
The Download community is, for the most part, incredibly friendly and wholesome. There are a few outliers every year of course, but hopefully it didn't put you off going again. Hope to see you next year! - Gibby
I think modern rock music has diversified and the bands that are doing well are the more accessible artists. There's still lost of great heavy bands further down the line-up that deserve love too - Gibby
Great vlog. Can't believe i didn't bump into you guys as for most of the vlog i actually wasn't too far away and even in the back of one doghouse shot!
The end of Barclays' sponsorship is actually bigger than people might think. They've ended partnership with all Live Nation UK festivals, this includes Festival Republic (which LN UK has majority ownership of). Hopefully this leads to sustainable and long-term change in the sponsorship situation, because up until now the audience and artists haven't had any say in it. This incident shows who has the power in this scenario and the artists used it spectacularly.
Mate I am a blue, but do Download every year. I don't do general camping and booked for next year already, Give me a clue where you are and I will bring you a 24 pack.
That's so kind, thank you 😊 where do you camp? I love general camping but we're looking at exploring other options next year to at least say we've tried them - Gibby
It wouldn't even be difficult to set up a relief zone or something where people could rest in shelter, even just while waiting between bands away from the stages
Cut ties with Pantera now you’ve seen them? Good to have morals after you’ve just totally ignored them. Thankfully Enter Shikari didn’t fund weapons for Israel prior to threatening to boycott 🤣🤣 Great festival this year. 👍
I think it was very clear in the video that the intention was to see the music live without directly financially contributing to the band. Pantera already received their fee for the show, regardless of whether we saw them or not. As a fan of the music, but not the people who made it, the only person who misses out by not going is the fan. It was a decision I didn’t make lightly, and only after a very in depth discussion with friends about ethics did we arrive at the conclusion that this was the only ethical way to enjoy the music we grew up listening to. I’ve not even listened to them on Spotify in years.
@@TheAltVaultYT as long as you’re happy with that decision. Think the way you’ve justified that against your moral code is bizarre. You literally had to do nothing to stand by your morals and couldn’t achieve that. Walking up that hill took some effort (I know). A list of bands pulled out (which you applauded in your credits) but you couldn’t do nothing. It was more effort to watch them. Seems weird to me, but each to their own.
Great vid dude, probably the best vlog I’ve seen from this year. I’m not commenting here to cause any ruckus. Just leaving these clips here for people that still think phil’s a big scary racist. We had a lot of fun, it might become a recurring feature of these videos. Little tip if you're playing it yourself: cans are the best festival currency

I am very impressed with the quality of your editing!! You absolutely won me over with the Fallout references!

My first download was certainly an experience!
Awesome vid - its been 8 years since my last Download festival but watching this is making me want to go again. See yah at Trees!
Download is still amazing even if the weather is bad, you won't regret it next year if you decide to go.
Hopefully we bump into you at Trees! 😊

Every metalhead I know has said download is becoming more like a pop festival.

I love that "a second Andy has hit the bog roll" made the final cut 😂 Smashing video guys, very much enjoyed the reminiscing!
Can't believe parkway drive said that 😭
Such a great festival with awesome people, love watching this back ❤
Love the bingo cards, i wanted to make one but you put in the effort so well done :P
Now we just need rules/forfeits for when we get a line or a full card!
No way our vlogs are a minute apart in length hahaha. Half way through and loving it man. Sucks we didn't run into each other!
Thanks dude! Yeah such a shame, one of these days we will 😂 See you at Trees this year?
@@TheAltVaultYT unfortunately not!

Genuinely an incredible outcome considering people dismissed them as "just small bands". Festivals belong to their communities
Every year I desperately wait for this video to come out! amazing video as usual hope to see you at trees❤
Thanks mate! Glad we didn't disappoint 😅 See you at trees 😊

48:30 - missing the opportunity for a De-feet-ed pun is unforgivable
What is your OBSESSION with FEET man!
great intro!
Thanks so much! We definitely didn't do multiple takes and soak me in water 👀
What camp were you in? Looks like orange
We were at the top of the hill in Blue camp, by the toilets and the vendors - Gibby
I went that chicken place. I ordered 5 strips and chips but asked for them separately and they gave me 8 strips and extra chips. Result
Wow we’ll have to remember that for next time 😂
"Peg them good" Fookin love it
0:53 This year and last year exposed how little cover there was from the elements, particularly in the main arena.

I promise the first time I lobbed the can at him he caught it PERFECTLY, we are a one take channel, we just don't press record when it works...
Gibby doesn't fluff his lines, you just can't account for the poor camera crew 👀
What was the Barclaycard controversy?
Because they are involved with making weapons so people get really woke about making weapons Israel
