Dan Lilker is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. Some years back, he was touring with Venomous Concept and my band got to open for them when they passed through. I remember walking through the backstage area and Dan noticed my Nuclear Death shirt, and goes "awesome shirt, dude". Having grown up with S.O.D. and Brutal Truth albums, I did not know how to act, so I muttered "thanks, it's a bootleg" or something lame like that and quickly scurried off, punching myself in the head for such a stupid response. Anyway, showtime comes, and we had only some 20 minutes of material, because, grindcore, you know how that goes. We were the local band, so there were a lot of our friends present and I told my fellow band members we weren't going to play a song twice, if they (our friends) would shout for an encore, cuz that's kinda lame. During our show I noticed Dan standing next to the podium, watching us blast through our set. When finished, our friends, as expected, started yelling for more, and we looked at each other and shook our heads. So I turn to my left and there is Dan, giving me the thumbs up while mouthing "one more". So we played one more, how could we not? My other band members, who are some 10 years younger than me, told me they were surprised how nice he was, complimenting us on our set and starting a conversation with our guitarist about his Isengard shirt. The man is a treasure. You must know that I always avoid meeting my heroes, but I am sure happy to have met Danny Lilker, living legend and all-round nice person.
Met him once and he was the nicest, most down-to-earth dude ever. I asked him to sign a shitload of my records and he just smiled and signed everything.
The real deal. Seen him in Soo many bands. Even saw Brutal Truth in a sandwich shop. The most stoned band I've ever seen! Glad you're still kicking around Dan. Keep flying your banner brother!
I never get tied of watching interviews with Danny and he is always open to give them.. I have seen it in person, damn near anyone can ask h fir a interview on camera at anytime and he will say, "..yeah, sure.. no prob".. the most righteous dude ever
I met Danny at a Nuclear Assault gig in the mosh pit to Dark Angel who were supporting them. Just a normal fan of extreme music, that played music. He's one one of my favourite musicians and a top guy.
His first show was Malignant Tumor?! The Czechoslovakian grindcore band who started in 1991?! I bet he meant to say Cancerous Growth, the Boston hardcore punk band who started in '82.
Funny the bathrooms at CB's Was the dressing room "Artist load in! Smelled like piss squat! And the sweat was dripping from the ceiling Best sound in N.Y. nobody mentions the pyramid And robots , nursery Irving plaza ,Macs
Dan's a top bloke, down to earth all round good'un!, made me laugh when he said why he visted squats!!, a true pot head to the end!!. Ive not seen him play with nuclear assult yet, heres to hoping they play a uk festival the year. Great series of interviews mr stone, can't wait to see the full documentary. All the best to you all.
Had the honor or touring with him And soulfly . I was totally nerding out he had no ideal haha I broke down one night and told him how I grew up ok nuclear assault !! He was so cool introduced me to his wife It was very surreal for me !
There were news several years back that Lilker is releasing biography book which i was super excited to read but i never heard of it coming out. Anybody else heard of anything happening?
"I'm a 50 year old man that still plays black metal and grindcore because I don't give a fuck" 😂😂 that should be a intro to a badass grindcore/black metal band. Oh and btw check out this one band "SCUMPULSE" 👍
That "attention drummers" sign annoys me, basically accusing them of stealing as soon as they arrive. If you think something's been stolen you file a police report you can't just charge their card without asking because who's to say you didn't hide the stuff yourself so you can extort more money out of the musicians? Plus the musicians have a right to legally dispute the allegations before having to pay. I'd never do business with a company as shady as this.
@@kevinr278 i'm not sure how it is in America but where i live it's definitely not legal to charge someone's credit card without permission unless it's in a prior contract.
I hung with nuclear assault and Dan liker for 3days up in Buena Park CA 1987, Dan liker is the best 💯 even paid for my food at the mall! Still have a picture of me and Dan! All thanks to katon de pena of Hirax, phantasm 🤘
"I'm a 50 year old man who still plays black metal and grindcore cuz I don't give a fuck." lol I love Danny
lmao best quote EVER
If I’m not playing black metal and grindcore at 50….put me down.
Awesome work. I used to date Danny Lilker back in the 80's. He's come down to my farm in Maryland and be awed by the visible stars in the sky.

I wonder if Dan remembered you running off after he noticed your bootleg shirt. Now I would like to meet him.
You should have improvised for 3 hrs.
“None of this karate chop bullshit” lmao so true
Met him once and he was the nicest, most down-to-earth dude ever. I asked him to sign a shitload of my records and he just smiled and signed everything.
Every time I met dude...all he was doing was looking for someones weed to smoke on....free beer...those were in his Brutal Truth days.

Agreed...great songs....and johns vocals were amazing....stranded in hell...is my absolute fave Nuclear tune!!!
The fact that I never got to see nuclear assault makes me sad. They are one of the few bands that I really wanted to see but never got around to see.
The real deal. Seen him in Soo many bands. Even saw Brutal Truth in a sandwich shop. The most stoned band I've ever seen! Glad you're still kicking around Dan. Keep flying your banner brother!
You're right about the first DRI drummer
What a swipe at Araya….”who kinda goes plick plick plick” only a legend like Lilker can take that shot.
That was more brutal than the Reign in Blood album ha!
Legend... hardcore, crossover, thrash, grind, black metal... Long live Danny Liker

D.R.I. are legit pioneers

One of the realest dudes ever
Another great interview with the legend, I don’t he’s ever said anything in an interview that wasn’t gold.
I met Danny at a Nuclear Assault gig in the mosh pit to Dark Angel who were supporting them. Just a normal fan of extreme music, that played music. He's one one of my favourite musicians and a top guy.
Great guy. So down to earth.
I stepped on his shoe getting an autograph at a table in Houston. He is so tall. He wiped his shoe off and still signed my club flyer.
Seems like a cool dude. It's time I get caught up with all of his bands.
He keeps it 💯 and that’s key to any success in life 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Such a great, kind and important guy.
Danny asked me for some pot once at a show in houston texas when he played with Brutal Truth in 1997...Man I wish I woud have had some.
It'd be a lot cooler if you did.
Legend. I met him when NA came around the Boston area years ago! Met some of brutal truth as well, they said he was an awesome guy too
Dan is the man!!! Real deal rocker!
Nuclear Assault one of the best bands ever!
His first show was Malignant Tumor?! The Czechoslovakian grindcore band who started in 1991?!

L'amour was fun, but CB's was the BOMB! ;-P
Best one yet!!!
One of the NICEST dudes you'd ever want to meet!
Hail Fistful of Metal....the Anthrax's best for me.....one of the reasons: Dan Lilker
Dan Lilkar, who has pursued the ultimate in extreme music, is the true NYHC.
Gotta love his mannerisms, so funny!

Dan was also great in the band Brutal Truth.

Lilker rules. \,,/
No Dan. You didn't say Bass Ball.
You said Hardcore Bass Berpt.
My favorite!
Dan Lilker is such a great guy! 😂😂
Such a nice dude !
I wonder if the big Charlie story is why they chose to play "your mistake" in the background.
he looks like howard stern
He's made a comment about that in another interview and he doesn't give a phuk
The man is a legend 🤘🏻
So underrated, Dan Lilker Rocks! Or Metals!

Nuclear Assault was top 3 crossover band, they had No weaknesses
This dude jumped backward off the stage at Club Bene in NJ in 1987 and his head smashed into mine. I thought I was seriously concussed.

Dan Lilker is great. Honest, no b.s..
Be as Dan Lilker is 🤘🏻
Checked out endstille (the band on Danny's shirt) they are a pretty cool black metal band but yea danny is cool
He's wrong; DRI 'no sense' is from 1983. Agree that it's the first blast-beat.
Kinda disappointed u didn’t mention Macabre? Didn’t you have them play your Wedding ?
Dan is made of METAL!!!
For sure! A true "Metal Warrior!"
My biggest regret in life is growing up!!!
Had the honor or touring with him
And soulfly . I was totally nerding out he had no ideal haha I broke down one night and told him how I grew up ok nuclear assault !! He was so cool introduced me to his wife It was very surreal for me !
Saw NA in Preston UK back in the 80's, im not raelly a fan but anyone who loves "22 songs" by DRI is all good in my opinion...
Dan the man. Coolest guy in metal.
I'm a 50 year old man that still plays black metal and grind core because I don't give a f. Awesome.
Just realised... He sounds like Mr Slave from SouthPark
He sounds like a more nasally Jason Segel

Lemmys real name is Ian
There were news several years back that Lilker is releasing biography book which i was super excited to read but i never heard of it coming out. Anybody else heard of anything happening?
Never heard anything about it.
It was released a few years ago. Try to search Perpetual Conversion: 30 Years & Counting in the Life of Metal Veteran Dan Lilker.
