OK, so I'm Koa's dad's age or so it may be hard to relate but I grew up in San Diego, surfed heavily in the 70's. I rode one of the original Steve Liss fishes (first twin fins ever), hung with the Willis Brothers and inspired the Nucleus logo with my then bro' Barry. After 40 years I got nothin' to do, housebound during COVID and I find This Is Livin to be so cool. The whole North Shore Crew are living the life I wish I coulda. Being a Merchant Marine was not a conducive to surfing as I had hoped but you guys got it. OUTSTANDING. What a cool kid.

So refreshing for a guy who surfs Pipe and Jaws to go out on a long board with no attitude and just go with the flow and have fun and not prance around like so many local surfers do thinking they are gods gift to surfing in their local 6ft mush balls
I once was what you described but unable to surf any more.
Not even small surf, a bad injury which rules me out.
No matter what I rode shortys to logs I always tried to make everyone calm the feck down if there was tension.
LoL I am not a small guy nor fat, so it worked.
I don't want to surf with bad vibes defeats the purpose hey.

We call it the May Gray and June Gloom. Our killer summer weather is in Aug-Oct. At least when it's foggy, that means there's no wind.

Lowers is always overcrowded! Uppers is better but I'm happy lowers gets all the attention! There are other spots in walking distance that are uncrowded and so much fun.

I went surfing yesterday and today on Zuma(Malibu) and can say we got some really big friggin waves(one of the biggest swells of the year). I don’t know why surfrider was small tho

inversion layer is different - it's what keeps the smog in the basin. you're talking about the "marine layer."
Could of made the trip up north to the Santa Cruz area, that S swell that hit there, just hit us and the waves has been epic. Unfortunately, we're @ the tail end of that swell, so everything is up in the air now.

Go to the critical spots in Malibu like Westward or heavens there will be tubes early in the morning before the wind

The ‘fog’ is normal. It’s a shoreline marine layer that burns off mid afternoon and helps keep our temps nice and moderate 90% of the year. June gloom is its nickname.
If anything it helps us watermen as the summer good weather sun chasing tourists might do less beach activities and thus leaves beaches slightly less packed

I don’t film but I surf and make cars as far as the internship not sure if I’m qualified at all but I do know how to make chicken and can live off a sleeping bag and a jar of almond butter and oatmeal.
