I wasmoved, inspired, challenged - all at the same time - by your presentation. I am proud to have passed through your hands at the University of Zimbabwe where you were my tutor and ofcourse SRC Vice President. Now look where that got me and you! Continue to lift the torch higher!
Powerful !!!!!!that's all I can say. My Teacher who built me was Ms Ngcebetsha at Lupane Primary school.I hope she is still alive. She was the Kindest soul. Thanks Trevor for reminding me of my " Formative years"
Thank you Trevor for sharing about your life. Its like walking down memory lane for me as I resonate with many points you have mentioned. You are a true role model. May God continue to guide and bless you.
Trevor, good to hear your story and lessons. Just to share that these behaviour of teachers are found everywhere: I grew up as a girl in a mining town in Germany and my father and grandfather were workers in the mine. My school experience after primary school was terrible, as I was often forced by my teacher to read my "useless" essays: they often stated that I actually could neither read nor write German and I passed my A´levels solely because of my rebellious uprising (I will show him!)
Such a wonderfully told story; really lifted me up through a dark day! You are indeed far from a coward- a true man of courage :) I wish you well on your journey ahead!
and my real good exams in English and French (languages I spoke and wrote better than my motherlanguage!). I agree with you that we all need someone to affirm us and build us up and teachers are such a powerful group of people (together with parents obviously) who can make or break a child. I am now working for the United Nations in Abidjan and have spent over 20 years of my life in Africa. I lived in your wonderful country as well...from the glorious 1980 to a less glorious 1994...
