  • Monterey's Hotel Del Monte was a 20,000 acre resort complex with extensive botanical gardens and sports facilities. It offered one of the finest cuisine and recreational opportunities in the nation. Guests included American presidents and world leaders, industrialists and business executives, and famous artists, poets and film stars. Today it is home to the Naval Postgraduate School.

I worked on this place the Navy remodeled it into officers barracks lots of cool stuff we came across an underground kitchen that was buried while running a sewer line. The contractor did not call the Historical Society like you were supposed to and we buried it back up but I know where it is

Prior to Sept. 11 2001 attacks one could go out and see the hotel, now there is a security fence keeping non military out .The ballroom and hotel was extraordinary to see.I live 30 miles away and bike on the rail-trail,I highly recommend, and see the old parts of Monterey.

I love the area, do you have any tips on affordable housing? I live in Georgia, but would love to make it out there one day, just don't know how

@@edfarmer154 Why don't you come out for a visit. But yes rents are high. Some of the small towns like Salinas and Seaside or Marina are more affordable. The reason it's high here is jobs in high tech and great climate.I have lived here most of my life.Monterey is the best city I have seen anywhere.

I'm new to the channel, I have an old photograph of Hotel Del Monte, No 1. It's on a cardboard type , it's a large photo, it has the name of the photographer, but no date, I'd guess the photo was taken early 1900's. It's a beautiful Hotel. I was curious about where this Hotel was located and the History of it, I found your channel searching for information on the Hotel. Thank you for your video, it was very helpful.
