I knew when I clicked on this video you were going to really like the bass groove on this song. This is from their first album opiate. All the songs are short and sweet on this album. Great reaction! I thought you gave it a fair score. Great job!
This is the second track of Tool's debut EP in 1992. Practically every song here is short, since they were still starting to find their own sound. It's still a great song and a great EP, but everything you hear from this era will be different from later Tool.
Well DH - thanks for introducing me to tool (still slowly working through your TW list but I do jump onto new posts, or if something older pops into my feed). Heard a lot about the bass player and that was my 1st thought - that bass is strong (and funky). Yeah - I could imagine RHCP doing it. And that brings me to 2 things - 1. You remind me so much of a friend of mine (when you score and say 'I feel really good . . .. ') - that little head shake is something he's been doing for 20 odd years when he feels pleased with himself. I just needed a sampling over multiple reactions to say that with any degree of truth 🤣 - 2. The reason I subbed was because of your honesty and your integrity in doing what you do - you enjoyed the track, and its fun. You as a bassist jumped onto your bass (and that's the 1st time I've seen you do that - gratz on getting that sorted - but I have been watching older reactions so...understandable) worked the chords and HAD FUN. And YOU DIDN'T ALLOW THAT FUN to impact your scoring. Very professional job mate - kudos Anyways cheers from OZ
Not sure when you got the bass audio ironed out, but it sounds really good. 🙂I didn't know Tool had anything that short either. I'd be curious to hear a Chili Peppers cover of this. Fun reaction (and review)!
I'm using my rig temporarily while I have it before it goes back into the band storage. It's an Ampeg SVT Classic All Tube 300 Watt Head, going into an Ampeg Classic 6x10 cabinet. It is SUPER POWERFUL. To give you an idea, I have the cabinet facing a corner on the opposite side of the studio, and the volume on the amp is set to just under 1, about 0.8. It's a beefy rig, not great for studio but awesome for live play.
I gotta ask David, you planning on reviewing the Holy Trinity of Tool soon? It's three songs but they need to be played back to back. Off the Lateralus album: Disposition, Reflection, Triad. Gonna be a long video bud!
@@Literallyjustmint it is very impressive to me... He has inspired me to pick up my bass and learn finally after many years since I bought it and dropped it almost just as quick. It's now one of my favourite hobbies
@@johncarpenter3751 I mean I never sat down and ordered my favourites 1-20 but some people may have. If they're all good tracks then there's your reason maybe. It's not to say #20 is a bad song just your least favourite. Forgive me if I'm not catching what your throwing down here
@@supervisedchaos I guess a lot of people say their favorite tool song is the one their listening to. So that’s why it’s difficult to make a top 20 because they are all your favorites
@@supervisedchaos I believe he stated in the Grudge reaction video that he's listened to Undertow a long time ago, and even had the album before he started reacting to the band on YT. So he's definitely heard at least 20 of their songs
It is remarkably hard to come up with a top 20 Tool tracks. David has it right though: the one you most recently listened to is always in your present top 20.
Big difference in opinions between fans of early tool and later tool. Even middle of their career. Some fans cutoff at opiate Some fans cutoff at undertow Some fans cutoff at aenima And most fans who choose lateralus seem to like everything from that point on But early tool is really great.
This is first album Tool, so the bass player was still Paul D'Amour
JerkOff is still my favorite from this album, but the new remix of Opiate is amazing and is arguably one of their all time best.
Jerk Off is definitely my favorite too.
This made me happy... Love to hear that bass.. love the reaction great stuff.. love to see you hype it up and the conclusion made me lol
Nailed it again SupervisedChaos! Thanks for your request, knew he'd love this one!! One of my favorites!

9:26 Loved the cat bobbing head😄Thanks for the reaction
Dave , this was about censorship of lyrics, which is why Maynard is so angry.
"I can't say what I want to, even if I'm not serious."
One of the best moves about this song was that it is so quick and to the point. Makes you want to listen
I'll never get tired of Tool .
I'm with you on the groove.. I love me some funk. I grew up listening to funk in the 70s.
Angry tool is a real vibe

First studio EP...they had a EP of demo songs that they sold prior to this called 72826
@@williamdrake6711 You're right, I heard about that one, but since I never saw it I completely erased it from my mind.
I love when you enjoy a song
I feel the same way about this song. Killer groove. One of my favorite Tool songs and no one ever mentions it!

This is what you get when they force a Parental Advisory label on TOOL. ✌️
This EP ROCKS! ✌️
David, I also always keep my bass guitar at my feet within arms reach! ✌️

Rlly liked you getting out the bass for this!
Love the cat , very funny
The Young angry Maynard was awesome !!!
More tooool David🤘🤘🤘
Oldie but goodie! Nice review.
Early Tool was more aggressive and rocking! Angry Maynard ruled.
I gotta ask David, you planning on reviewing the Holy Trinity of Tool soon? It's three songs but they need to be played back to back. Off the Lateralus album: Disposition, Reflection, Triad. Gonna be a long video bud!
Hi David I'm just curious for how long have you been playing the bass. Also nice tone!
I've been playing bass since the age of 14, but professionally since the age of 17. I have been studying music since the age of 3.
@@THEDavidHereticAwesome, thanks for the reply.

Early Tool, 1992 I believe
Yes this was recorded in 1991 and was released on the EP in 1992.
I had the Vans, 501s, a dope Beastie tee, nipple rings, TOOL tattoos that claimed that I was OGT, back from '92, from the first EP too.
lol, slowing the base line down gave me RCHP vibes too
2:30 - Well.. Things were a bit different back in ´92 when this EP was made. :D
Who has a top 20 favorite TOOL songs list? Anyone? If you like more than 20 tool songs then there’s no need for a TOP 20 cuz just how 🤷♂️
They are all bangers that's how,.. but I'm not even sure if there is 20 tracks on Dave's reaction playlist so I find it a bit odd
@@supervisedchaos I know they are all bangers that’s why im saying you can’t have a top 20.

Catchy
Tool is always IMPECABLE.......!!!!!!
early tool had its own feel and alot of the old heads still think its their best sound.

A two-minute Tool song?! 😆
First EP, Opiet. 1992
That's not Justin. It's Paul D'Amour.
🤘🏻🌀
Can you please do Michael Jackson! Give into Me!!!!
Meat and potatoes Tool is the better than proggy Tool in my opinion.
