I’ve seen them 6 times! Three times recently, would’ve have gotten one more in April but got canceled. Got lucky enough to see them and in Rockville when they debuted Invisible and Descending... I feel beyond lucky I was there to witness that, also was tripping balls lol. They opened with Ænima too lol. Best live show you’ll ever experience, changed my girlfriends life. We got tickets the day after her first for the next closet show lol. She totally gets it now, she used to like APC more but slowly she changed her mind. Hands down best ducking band, and Danny is the best Drummer in the world lol!!!

But I find Tools greatest songs are the ones that never made it to video or radio. I don't know, it's probably just because radio stations and mild fans tend to overplay those kinds of songs. Don't get me wrong, I love Schism. But there is so much more. H and Jimmy are particular favorites of mine off of Aenima. Parabol, Parabola, Disposition and Reflection off of Lateralus. Wings for Marie and 10,000 days off 10,000 days. Eh, I dunno... I'm just rambling at you for some reason. The truth is, I could sit here and list every Tool song as my favorite. I was 20 when this album came out. Their best imho, this song and several others on the album still stir my blood to this day and give me goosebumps. I've seen them twice once in '01 when they were touring this album. Starting @3:26 in this song is some of the most beautiful/awesome piece of music I've ever heard.
I see lots of people in these comments talking about how cool the drum intro is : I hope you people do know that it sounds even more amazing if you play this song right after Schism, because that intro is the "sequel" of Schism's outro, it feels like it's only one continuous song. Happy 20th birthday to my favorite album of all time. Not everyone can say they were on acid the first time they heard it but a friend of mine and I got ahold of it the night before its official release and each of us took three hits and had the greatest night of our lives.
I can't find the precision and absolutely mind boggling creativity in another band length of time given. Name one. There are none but maybe Getty and Rush, but this set of 4 has set egos aside for something to never be duplicated.
I remember being like 16-17ish and wrapping my head around like 80% of what Danny was doing in a country town in Australia (80 %probably generous with the distortion of time), looking back the fact I couldn’t get it and just surrendered to the flow was fucking exciting. At the time i was probably wallowing in the i could never do that shit.. but now and then you’d escape and realise the size of it all. Empowering.. Im 35 now, wife kids steady and reckless. Anyone besides me sometimes lay in bed sometimes and feel almost like everything in your view is far away but there's also an overwhelming sense of fear and a sensation of being watched or something until you have to get up and try to distract from it? For some reason the whole slow portion with the faint yelling in the background is so similar and it bothers me. Hope anyone knows what I'm talking about. I've sometimes had this phenomenon since I was a kid.
I see this song's message as a warning against narcissism or mental exploitment or something along those lines. The clean part is put there to make you think about what you've been blasted in the ears moments before, to let you "breathe" and to prepare you for the final part, when you subtly get your "punishment". We don't know if Maynard layed the lyrics down after hearing the complete instrumental, or if they all composed the song togheter trying to express a vibe or some idea. I don't know, but i know for sure that Tool are not elevator music, and that their songs, expecialy this one, are pretty intense and can even make you feel weird or overwelmed hahaha
I've always found Tool fascinating. It's like they take the vocals, guitars and drums, then make 3 separate songs and merge them just enough that they complement each other, but still stay individual. And my god those drums, this had got to be one of the hardest songs, I can't think of many with such a complex pattern

I’ve seen them 6 times! Three times recently, would’ve have gotten one more in April but got canceled. Got lucky enough to see them and in Rockville when they debuted Invisible and Descending... I feel beyond lucky I was there to witness that, also was tripping balls lol. They opened with Ænima too lol. Best live show you’ll ever experience, changed my girlfriends life. We got tickets the day after her first for the next closet show lol. She totally gets it now, she used to like APC more but slowly she changed her mind. Hands down best ducking band, and Danny is the best Drummer in the world lol!!!

Greatest band of my generation.
I was 20 when this album came out. Their best imho, this song and several others on the album still stir my blood to this day and give me goosebumps. I've seen them twice once in '01 when they were touring this album. Starting @3:26 in this song is some of the most beautiful/awesome piece of music I've ever heard.

I remember being like 16-17ish and wrapping my head around like 80% of what Danny was doing in a country town in Australia (80 %probably generous with the distortion of time), looking back the fact I couldn’t get it and just surrendered to the flow was fucking exciting. At the time i was probably wallowing in the i could never do that shit.. but now and then you’d escape and realise the size of it all. Empowering.. Im 35 now, wife kids steady and reckless. It still takes me there

Anyone besides me sometimes lay in bed sometimes and feel almost like everything in your view is far away but there's also an overwhelming sense of fear and a sensation of being watched or something until you have to get up and try to distract from it? For some reason the whole slow portion with the faint yelling in the background is so similar and it bothers me.
Hope anyone knows what I'm talking about. I've sometimes had this phenomenon since I was a kid.
I see this song's message as a warning against narcissism or mental exploitment or something along those lines. The clean part is put there to make you think about what you've been blasted in the ears moments before, to let you "breathe" and to prepare you for the final part, when you subtly get your "punishment".
We don't know if Maynard layed the lyrics down after hearing the complete instrumental, or if they all composed the song togheter trying to express a vibe or some idea.
I don't know, but i know for sure that Tool are not elevator music, and that their songs, expecialy this one, are pretty intense and can even make you feel weird or overwelmed hahaha

I've always found Tool fascinating. It's like they take the vocals, guitars and drums, then make 3 separate songs and merge them just enough that they complement each other, but still stay individual. And my god those drums, this had got to be one of the hardest songs, I can't think of many with such a complex pattern
