Thanks for the tip on the eggs. Because of covid in our area, our egg orders have declined. We have dozens of eggs stacking up. We don’t have pigs so Mrs Metz checked the internet to see if there was a way to feed them back to the chickens. If you scramble them with no seasonings or oil, or hard boil them then remove the shells then chop them up the chickens don’t recognize them as eggs. Apparently eggs are a great source of protein for the chickens. Have you ever tried this method with your extra eggs?

We have they love them. Also when I have a cracked egg I just feed it to them I know this isn’t recommended because they can start to eat their eggs but we haven’t had any issues 🤞

Great vid, but I’ve got question on a past video. Pork in the freezer, are you still happy with the quality, flavor of the meat produced? Have you or were you able to figure cost to raise and price per pound, or is this something you plan to do for future video? Are you doing a video on rendering the fat and what are your planned uses for it. Have you cured your bacon or are you planning a Vid on that, or do you prefer uncured bacon? Something to do with neck bones and ham hocks, slow smoke them, freeze and use as flavoring/seasoning for soups, greens, peas and beans. Sorry about the # of questions. I enjoy your videos immensely and am currently looking at properties and hope to move to your part of the country soon to homestead. Retirement is 1.5 years away.

We are definitely happy with the quality of our meat the flavor is fantastic! We didn't really figure out the cost per pound but we plan on doing the for our next meat pigs. We were more worried about just being able to try the meat. We have never rendered lard or cured meat before so it will be a learning process for us but when we find a method that works for us we will definitely share.
Thanks for the tips on using the ham hocks and necks we will be trying that for sure. Keep the questions coming we enjoy trying to help out when we can. Good luck on your homestead search and congrats on the upcoming retirement .
      Thanks for following along!!

    How old are they here?
Do you keep male and females together until a certain age?

The three little piglets are all gilts they were about 10 weeks. We separate ours earlier than you need to. Girls can come into heat at 5-6 months so they need to be separated from males at that time
