    shark skin, called shagreen, is made up of what are called denticles, basically miniature teeth. If you run your hand one way along the shark it will feel smooth, run your hand along the opposite direction and, depending on the species and size of shark, you can slice your hand like it was in a cheese grater. Shagreen was what was originally used as a sand paper for many centuries. Just a bit of useless info for those who enjoy such things lol. Thanks for sharing your day with us mate, much enjoyed.

      in my childhood, we used to hunt sharks for their meat and liver. When cutting/cleaning the sharks we sharpen de knife on its own skin, 'cause its like sandpaper.

    You really did nail life, Graham. It is a pleasure to follow you now as it always was. I must tell you this. I used to subscribe to every angling book, magazine and newspaper and I kept them all, but it wasn't until one of the recent videos that I realised you fill a multiplier with close turns and not spread apart. I can now use my bloody thirty-year-old ABU properly for the first time. Brilliant!

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you wind on close to touching turns you turn to get less of a backlash when you cast out. Level winds don't often make touching turns which is why long distance casters usually take it off.

    Good video as usual! Next time you are over in Jersey you should allocate some night fishing time, off both of those breakwaters and various other readily accessible marks around the island :) Over the years that one spot St Cathrines has produced for me at least these species : conger, various rays, smoothies, bullhuss, cod, pollack, bass, wrasse, bream, coalies, squid, cuttlefish, mackeral, snipe and a load of doggies!

    The beginning fishing outing is the first time I've seen Graeme not catch a fish, but I'm sure if he could have stayed out there, he would have caught something. But the daughter's birthday dinner is more important. I knew you would catch something as soon as you got back out. Are dog fish good to eat? A stone's throw. LOL. That's a wonderful Elizabethan castle. Enjoyed your interview with the fisherman.

    • @harryhunter-baxter4405
      @harryhunter-baxter4405 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dogfish are good to eat fried in batter. A bit of work to prepare but not too difficult if you know what you're doing. Have a look on google at how to skin them. Also, try to prepare them as soon as possible after catching as the skin releases urea after death giving the flesh the taste of piss if you take too long about it.
