You really need to watch his dance practices. The video doesn't showcase his phenomenal skills like the practices do. He's the very best dancer I've ever seen in Kpop. Other dancers look up to him and rising stars want to emulate him. He joined Shinee I think when he was 14, so he has over 10 years' experience with performing and he was already a great dancer at his audition as a kid. He's so underrated and deserves more. He's particularly noted for his isolation, body control, and popping skills.

I am glad you watched Taemin's "Want" MV with the English subs on, because, as you saw, "Want" is one of those songs that the lyrics take the song and performance up to the next level. :D The lyrics give the song and performance a whole other feel and it helps to explain the images and story you see being told in the MV. Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image. However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) You should react to everything this man has put out, but his debut, "Danger," is [chef's kiss]. Also, if you like Taemin (which shows that you have good taste!), you should also check out the group he's from, SHINee (pronounced like 'shiny'). One of their members passed 3 years ago, but they are also really great dancers and their songs just slap.
The look and feel for "Move" is very specific, it's supposed to be androgynous and gender neutral. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look and the fact that if he wore girls clothes most people would never know he wasn't a girl. (And if you have ever seen him dressed as a girl, you would see why. He could really pass as a girl, especially when he was younger.) It took him a long time to accept the fact that he was known for his looks and the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career as a 24 year old (Hie is 27 now) he was trying to make a statement about how he has now come to terms with just being himself and not caring what people think. Dancing is art and movement has no gender. The blue color is supposed to represent the cool chill vibe of the song, but you also should know that SHINee's fan color is aqua blue/green, so you will see a lot of blue/teal/green shades in the things the members of SHINee do. The female dancer who is dancing with Taemin in "Movie" is a famous choreographer. She is the one that choreographed the MV. Her name is Sugawara Koharu and she is a very famous Japanese choreographer who has choreographed dances for several Kpop groups, as well as American artists. She has worked with Taemin a lot over the years and she is the one that also choreographed Taemin's dance for his songs "Want" "Flame of Love" and "Sayonara Hitori" and helped choreograph Taemin and her performance on the competition program Hit the Stage -- "Devil" performance, etc. Taemin and Sugawara are really good friends. In Want, he dances like the snake and he represents Temptation, hence the smoke and other fleeting images. In Move, he broke k-pop again (SHINee was first to inspire amazing changes in the genre) by moving beyond gender roles because dance should not be limited in that way. Often other dancers and choreographers remark that Taemin's moves are not typical of male dancers, and that's part of his point. Also, the director had him dance in the rain for 18 hours and later apologized and said he would never ask that of another dancer but Taemin was willing to do it. (You've probably heard of the "Move disease" by now where other idols and dancers are trying to copy his dance.) Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image. However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) And like Lucifer he is supposed to be seducing the audience and the girl using his devilish powers.
Taemin is literally considered one of the top two BEST dancers in the entire industry, and that's not just a fan's opinion, but it's a title given to him by his peers and the industry as a whole. The style and aesthetic in "Want" is just the kind of vibe we have all come to expect from Taemin. He has a very sensual/sexy way of moving and, as a soloist, it's kind of his signature thing. Also, if you like Taemin (which shows that you have good taste!), you should also check out the group he's from, SHINee (pronounced like 'shiny'). One of their members passed 3 years ago, but they are also really great dancers and their songs just slap.

He debuted in 2008 indeed as a member of Shinee (you should check them out too cuz they're legends!) and started his solo career in 2014 :)
The look and feel for "Move" is very specific, it's supposed to be androgynous and gender neutral. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look and the fact that if he wore girls clothes most people would never know he wasn't a girl. (And if you have ever seen him dressed as a girl, you would see why. He could really pass as a girl, especially when he was younger.) It took him a long time to accept the fact that he was known for his looks and the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career as a 24 year old (Hie is 27 now) he was trying to make a statement about how he has now come to terms with just being himself and not caring what people think. Dancing is art and movement has no gender.
The blue color is supposed to represent the cool chill vibe of the song, but you also should know that SHINee's fan color is aqua blue/green, so you will see a lot of blue/teal/green shades in the things the members of SHINee do.
The female dancer who is dancing with Taemin in "Movie" is a famous choreographer. She is the one that choreographed the MV. Her name is Sugawara Koharu and she is a very famous Japanese choreographer who has choreographed dances for several Kpop groups, as well as American artists. She has worked with Taemin a lot over the years and she is the one that also choreographed Taemin's dance for his songs "Want" "Flame of Love" and "Sayonara Hitori" and helped choreograph Taemin and her performance on the competition program Hit the Stage -- "Devil" performance, etc. Taemin and Sugawara are really good friends. She was also the choreographer for SHINee's song "Good Evening." and she choreographed the dance for Girls Generation's song "Love&Girls" among others. She loves working with Taemin because his dance style and personality is very similar to her's so they mesh really well together, and that is one of the reasons why she has been featured in several of Taemin's projects. Plus, Taemin and all the members of SHINee, are also one of the most famous artists in Japan and they all speak fluent Japanese, so they have no problem communicating through dance or language.:D

But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him.

Thank you for your reactions! Taemin is truly talented and super creative, transcending k-pop. In Want, he dances like the snake and he represents Temptation, hence the smoke and other fleeting images. In Move, he broke k-pop again (SHINee was first to inspire amazing changes in the genre) by moving beyond gender roles because dance should not be limited in that way. Often other dancers and choreographers remark that Taemin's moves are not typical of male dancers, and that's part of his point. Also, the director had him dance in the rain for 18 hours and later apologized and said he would never ask that of another dancer but Taemin was willing to do it. (You've probably heard of the "Move disease" by now where other idols and dancers are trying to copy his dance.)
