Definitely busier than the Type A I bought last year, but just as good in its own way. Such a capable all rounder thanks to the combination of proper water resistance, date, lume, and Seiko VK power. I am keeping both, but it'll probably cost me money in more silicone! Cheers, Jody
Finally a quartz movement with a 12 hour counter for the chrono instead of the useless 24 hour day night indicator. The watch is also pretty solid for the price.
I really wish Seiko would allow this format with a 3,6,9 layout. 24 hour sub dial always bugs me on my mecaquartz watches 😅

@@G-rigger First, a 12 hour totalizer is life & death important if you are say….a pilot. The second you holler “Clear Prop! till tying down at the ramp and, after the After Landing Ck List is complete, then TURN OFF THE ENGINE. Then Sir, you are done flying. These little machines have been keeping pilots alive for a very long time. But on Thanks Giving I bet your Mrs. would appreciate your help. My Wife cooks those things for hours. The 24 hr dial has two actual purposes: Tell you night or day if you are spelunking. And for those casual Sunday afternoon SpaceWalks…. Very useful there. :-)

Bought the type A based on your previous vids. Absolutely love it - have it on a nato strap and is so light & comfortable I wear it nearly every day. And yes - the sapphire Crystal is just perfect. Still catches me off guard every time I put it on how good it makes the dial look. Absolute winner 👌🏻
Funny, the deeper I get into vintage the more Im amazed at the quality coming out of Ali, the case finish and tolerances are amazing and honestly better than major brands from as recently as the 80's.......Non homage watches like this offer amazing value. Also agree that Fliegers should be a little oversized.
I actually ordered the same watch this morning. One of the stores I buy most of my watches from uploaded the wrong price, and I got it for $113 US! I'd leave a link, but it's fixed now. Lucky morning indeed!
I got the type A for the 115 from some random store, they were offering only black dial on black NATO but for such a low price no complaints. the strap was nothing special but did its job well for 6 months and when I put it on a leather one
the dial is everything Jody says and the crystal really is EXCELLENT
Yeah, got he B version and it hasn't been of my wrist for 7 weeks now. The 39 mm case with the lugs pronounced downwards and the flat back, due to the thin mecaquartz, gives it an absolute perfect fit. Sure it has some IWC and Fortis vibes, but it holds its own identity. The timekeeping is ridiculous accurate, about -1 second per week over the last weeks..... just amazing. You won't find a watch with these specs under 5k, honestly. Tell me whitch brand gives you these looks, this accuracy, this fit, with (watertight) screw in crown & pushers?. If Baltany would make a nice metal bracelet for this one, with on the fly adjustment, it could be one of the best watches under 2K. The lugholes are just a bit too close to the case for an aftermarket strap, it will rub the case and damage the band just a bit. But for the price, this is just a stunning watch.

I opted for the black leather strap, and mine arrived with sandblasted buckle and tang that perfectly match the case... I wonder if they made a change after watching your review?

Great job as always Jody. Baltany never disappoints do they? Since I discovered them a few years ago I've not had a bad one yet. They really do make the best military watches on Ali.

They are unsurpassed when it comes to military style watches I think. Hoping they hop more into non military styles also.
I like this one a lot better than the Type A. To me, the A looked more like a caricature of a watch than an actual watch. However, I only have one chrono with screw down pushers and I hate them. "Oh, look! Something I could use my chronograph to time! I hope it doesn't start before I take off the watch and unscrew the pusher!" The VK67 with the 12 hour timer is a clear winner over anything using VK63.
Love the original and have mine on a sandy NATO - bought as a beater, but end up wearing it 90% time because it is so light and clear to read. I’d say it’s just missing the date complication and lume on the small hands = perfection!
I picked up one of the "type A" watches last year - it does look even better in real life. I've had a couple of watches with VK movements and both were +1 s/month, so if you like accuracy...
This just tipped me over the edge--I'm getting one. The VK67 is a criminal underutilized Seiko Mecaquartz movement. I've already got one Seiko VK67 "dress chrono," but this is the pilot-style 12-hour Chronograph I've been waiting for.
On a normal Flieger I'm more of a type A guy but in this instance, the type B works better for me. I already have plenty of watches and as I struggle to read the date without my reading glasses I can do without.
Baltany does some amazing work, but I wish they used more mechanical movements instead of quartz. Their A11 homage with the 36mm case, bubble dome sapphire and NH38 automatic is spectacular, and I wish they did mechanical chronos as well.
Man I got rid of my Hamilton Khaki mechanical and this might fill that void with the bonus of the chronograph. Dimensions look spot on
I ordered this watch based on Jody's review of the Baltany type A, and it arrived today...good timing! I liked the IWC pilot chronograph like looks, the added functionality of a 12 hour chrono hand with date and I also I generally prefer type B pilot watches. So while I hesitated with buying the type A, when I saw this it tipped the scale for me. In person it looks far more expensive than the cost, Jody is right about the crystal... wow. One criticism I have is that I would have preferred drilled lugs. What I would really like is for the design to fully embrace the "tool watch" aesthetic and have lume edge to edge on the hands with matt black anchor points and pinion, like the hand on the sinn 556. Overall Baltany did a fantastic job on this one, thanks Jody.
Blinking flip I'm going to have to buy it now - and I've got the first one as well. Jody's right about the glass btw. It's the same on Baltany's Radiomir homage as well as far as I can tell.

Hey Jody, thank you for this review - especially the side-by-side comparisons. I have the 'Type A', bought based on your review. I love it so much (for those yet to buy- it looks ever better on wrist) it goes back on my wrist every second watch rotation! This looks like a cracker too! The 12 hour timer is a bonus! And I really like the lume on the hands of the sub-registers - better for daytime legibility too. I'll be placing my order VERY soon! A request though - PLEASE ask Baltany - when will the 'Type C' be available? I'd like to request a 'Type C' with the 'Type B' chrono functions and date, with the 'Type A' hour numbers (1-5, 7-11) plus the outer - second and 0.2 sub-second markers, and triangular indices (per 'Type A') and ideally a the date would be white on black. Now that would be the PERFECT Baltany - also in the 'perfect 39mm' of course! Then I'll buy my third!
This really is an incredible little watch. I moved mine to a ventilated silicone strap and it’s much more wearable and less sweaty than the supplied leather strap. The crystal is impressive, but the movement is what really stands out. I checked mine against the atomic clock several times over the last couple of months and it seems to be off by about +2 sec per month. That’s close enough for me.
Just received my Type A yesterday. Put it on the exact same Barton strap that Jody did. Ive had the strap for years, goes well with blue dials but goes PERFECT with these, Type A and B. The 2 shades of brown/tan/ match the dial perfectly. Its an awesome watch and I paid $150 including shipping.

Picked up the type A at Christmas. It really is an amazing watch for the money. Perfect size, great movement and best crystal I’ve seen on a watch. Even the brand name sounds and reads ok! 😄
Yes , have the A Dial variant & the Crystals are superb . Bought locally from someone who thought it was to small . If one of these pop up I could be tempted.
A nice watch, sure. But I never was into Flieger style watches under 42mm. So I would like to see it with the two subdials as on the "A" und with a diameter of 42 to 44mm. Nice review, Jody, thanks for that 👍👍👍
Another superlative review, presentation and production. I've been waiting for what seems like forever for a Meca Quartz chronograph with a 12-hour register. I have it on my Speedmaster Professional, and use it all the time. Let's hope that this starts a trend.
I love my Bulova Lunar Pilot, except for the fact that it has that useless split-second register, as well as the almost useless seconds register.
I went for the 'retro panda' Baltany chrono - although mine is with the cream dial. One of my current favourites - wearing it today :-)
In some watches symmetry is good in others, non-symmetry makes them more interesting. Love the non-symmetrical look on this watch. My number 1 option for this sale. Tomorrow I'll see what I decide.
The perfect size for a mid century B dial flieger is 55mm

My Baltany Type A is my go to watch on a weekend. On a black Barton Strap it's just perfect. I have Omega, Rolex and plenty of Seiko and like JOMW says, the crystal is amazing. It's hard to explain why but it's almost as clear as my luxury watches. IMO the Type B is hideous in comparison, just too busy. They call is 'A' for a reason :)
Sold my Type A (begrudgingly) with the idea of getting the Type B, though I kinda have my eyes on another watch at the moment. Love both types, and would have been better if Type B had a lumed chrono hand as well.

Finally a 12 hour chrono. I have no idea why the standard is just a 60 min, and some 30 min chronos are ridiculous.
And even worse, most of the time, the quartz chrono movements usually have it 24 hour day night indicator as one of the registers, which is absolutely useless
I owned a G-Shock GW3000 pilots watch, which had a totally useless 24 (!) minute chronograph.
Same goes for the GW-4000..
That case is identical to Escapement Time Fliegers if it hasn’t been mentioned already.
It's a very good looking watch Jody. Not worried about the packaging at all, as long as the watch is protected from damage. Definitely worthy of consideration. I'd love it in 42mm. With an 8.1" wrist, and older eyes, I do prefer a bigger dial on a chronograph. 🤓 The three I have are 44mm, 44.5mm and smallest is 40mm and I struggle with that!
I absolutely love my Type A, so I don't think I will get the Type B too. Very nice though, very highly recommended. It looks so good on the wrist. My Type A is looking beautiful on an Olive green rubber strap at the moment.

I bought the Type A after your review of it, Jody. Indeed, a very nice watch - I am happy with the quality. Your comment about the crystal reminded me - it _feels_ good to the touch. IMO the Type A with the thinner minute markers and less crowded dial is a bit better looking than the Type B. Presuming they are delivering equal build quality, for those who like the additional functionality and don't mind the more crowded, less refined dial appearance, the Type B is a great deal, and the 12 hour chrono timer subdial IS a nice feature. In a world where "luxury" watches set you back thousands of dollars, it's awesome to see that Baltany can deliver this level of quality at a hundred and a half dollars.

Their 'Khaki Field' and 'D12" are close, but the hands (without any sub-dials) and subtle differences of the dial on the Type A chronograph model look nicer.
Tried ordering one from Baltany UK, bur at moment they are our of stock. Don't really want to get one from abroad 😢

Love your channel and love the reviews. There are too many channels that focus on “luxury” brands only as if watches under 1000 dollar are all unworthy. I know what is under the hood of watches and your reviews are authentic, fun to listen to, and credible. Keep up the good work!
I ordered type B today as if I was possessed. And I ordered type A even after 30 minutes. It will take about 3 weeks to ship, but I'm looking forward to it.
I think they should do type A and B dials for both movement options. Easy win in my opinion. 👍🏼

I actually think the dial isn't too busy because the sub-fials are quite minimal with thin printing. Case diameter at 39mm is great for any wrist, specially with such generous lug-to-lug.
It looks great and the dial is just almost too much. A no-date would, in my opinion, be perfect.

I'll chime in with a good word about the "Type A". Just a nice little watch. I don't think I need both, however. And given a clean choice, I'm not really sure which I would have purchased? Guess the cleaner look of the Type A is more appealing to me...
Yup bought the Type A and Jody is correct. Not just the crystal that’s brilliant but so is everything else. Shame we didn’t get a band option, as the NATO got binned in favour of a textured brown leather. Now looks awesome but the Barton’s are great too. You won’t regret buying either A or B versions, unless of course your a quartz snob!
for the A type, Militado sells exactly the same watch for 30% lower price than Baltany. I hope they would sell the B type as well without any brand logo.

Not the same, the lume is weak, the AR is not good, and Militado also uses a sterile dial.

The bizarredom of chinese brands... i daresay Baltany is the original and 'Miltado' is the knock-off. I don't mind branding either, i think that full-sterile dials looks odd.

Some time has passed, but Baltany now appeas to have a solar powered b-style chrono with just two subdials at 12 and at 6 (or ar 0 and 30)
Thanks for the review. Baltany makes some nice looking watches. I like the look of the type A - the dial of the type B looks a bit "busy". I might have to get one.
I own one if these and it is great, however for the life of me I cannot read that tiny elapsed minutes sub-dial. This is due to both the 60-min versus 30-min configuration and also the elapsed minute hand doesn’t click over for each elapsed minute but rather creeps along continuously.A chrono that can’t be used to measure elapsed time is no longer a chrono to me.

Agree would prefer this with just the 2 sub dials and no date. A non chronograph version with those 05 etc numerals would be even better personally as i've gone off chronographs. Used to love those busy dials but not so much now.
I’ve said it many many times but Baltany make outstanding watches for the price!
I like the type A one, I don't like the dial numerals on the type b showing minutes instead of hours on the white print. But the same store has a few other Meca quartz Chrono watches that are in the same price range.
This is a beautiful watch, but given the size of my wrist I will probably wait to see if they introduce one that's a little larger.
I'd prefer to have the hours marked instead of the minutes, but I otherwise prefer everything about this watch over the type A.
I would love to see Baltany invest some RnD into some bracelet options for their watches moving forward.

These are so very tempting and in a sense it's a blessing they're not exactly what I want so I can somehow resist. I love the Type A but not a 60 minute chrono. The B is great but I don't love dates on watches. I'll keep trying not to buy one but it's a challenge!

I really love my Type A. I think that the crystal is better than the amazing Oceanus S100.
Rather than a larger version, I think that a Solar powered version of the Baltany Type A would be perfect.
Type A would definitely be my preferred pick had i not already bought a "Mission to Alaska" and a mustard yellow Stratton race chrono you review a year ago. I feel like i can only have so many mecas...

Have the type A dial Baltany and the crystal is unreal in its clarity and tasteful edge refraction.
Considering adding this one as the additional complications are useful to me.
I think a 41mm with an elapsed time bezel ala a Type 20 or Hanhart would be a perfect iteration.
I'm not quite in love with Baltany's dial design but this is a step in the right direction. I think the hands are slightly too small here
I like both type A and B. If I could buy both I would. In this case I think I would choose the type A because it is a simpler design.
If they made this with the 1-12 hour markers instead of the min markers it would be perfect!! Baltany needs to do this!!

Great review as always. Personally, I have always preferred type B dials, If I had a choice no date is fine. But its not a deal breaker. It just seems to be a better look for a throw back style watch. For me. I need a larger case. I just can't get used to a case Smaller than 43mm. They just look to small on my wrist. I have an 8" wrist.
But I do like the style of the watch. I probably prefer an automatic, especially at this price, The Seagull PT5000 can be had in this price range. And its a pretty nice movement. I have way too many watches and sooner or later the battery man comes a knocking.

Has to be a daily though with just 3 year battery, no point buying it to leave in a drawer for any length of time
