i feel like every man friend/ex whatever i've had who had a box of tampons got a box for some other dumb reason and used a couple and just never bothered to toss the box. now he gets this brag of keeping a box under the sink because he never cleaned under there. This theory is dumb. If this was the case then women would just buy the blue razors and pink razors would not sell and companies would lose money. Every investigative journalist I've seen has disproven this. The items they show with different prices are usually a different product like a a shampoo meant for different types of hair. They also don't take into account how much the different sexes use the products. For example men typically need to wash their hair more because their hair tends to get greasier faster. Do men shave their beards more than women shave their legs and armpits? Men's facial hair is typically thicker and causes more wear on the razors. This happens for both sexes here and there. But any corporation wouldn't just give men a free discount. They would charge every penny they can get

The only time I've paid that much I got a perm and i went to HS the stylist so I tipped him a lot
My family owned a hair salon since before I was born so thankfully my uncles will do my hair for free but when I was younger I got my hair dyed light brown and blonde highlights on my super long (naturally dark) hair and my uncle spent hours doing it. I wanted to pay him because he was having health issues so I asked my aunt what it would cost and boy I could never afford that in my life😅 I paid him like $270 but that wasn’t even near what it would cost a regular client LOL also I live in Houston tx so not really an expensive city
I once bought a pair of winter boots that had the exact same model for men, women, and children. I had the pair in my hands from the woman’s section when the store manager showed me something I certainly didn’t expect. The boots in my hand were marked $75. THE SAME BOOTS were $55 in the men’s department and $35 in the kids section. Since I only wear a lady’s size 7, I easily fit into a boys size 5.5. That was when I started noticing the ‘gender tax’ as I call it, and it is EVERYWHERE.

male birth control pills are just as effective and have the exact same side effects as women's birth control pills, but it never got out of testing because none of the men would stick with the pills because of the side effects (also, they wouldn't actually be the ones to get pregnant so 🤷)

The measurements on the cup are for medical reasons. If you suspect you have abnormally heavy or light flow, you can measure and keep track of how frequently you empty it and provide your physician or gynaecologist with accurate information.
Glad to see these guys are fairly knowledgeable. I worked with a guy who said "I don't know why you don't just sit on a toilet when it's that time of month"! One of the few times I've ever been speechless.

Women don’t make as much because we won’t take the blue collar jobs that pay more because they are dirty or dangerous. We also won’t put in excessive overtime once we have kids and know where we need to be. Yes, taking care of someone who loves you is much more important than running your company. Any mom will tell you work won’t come to your aid when you need it or love you but your family will and they need you.
And now we’re denied control over our own bodies.

When I was 12, I went to visit my older brother at his house and I'd leaked through my trousers because my period was very heavy so he gave me a pair of his shorts and told me there were pads in the bathroom I could use. I asked him why he had them seeing as his girlfriend at the time used tampons, and he said it was for any female friend or visitor that came by and got their period.
It's nice to know he's not the only guy who does this!

They didn't factor in the cost of ruined bedsheets, mattresses and anything else where a sleeping woman wakes up in a pool of blood after sleeping through her alarm. Oh yeah, and all the clothes that get stained when she's out and can't get to a totally private place to deal with it. None of these devices are foolproof. The blood does what it wants. Public restrooms are not ideal.

A friend if mine used to do this too when he was single. Once he told me that when there're tampons and pads for every girl in the bathroom the girlfriends of hid friends stood longer at Partys so he could have more fun with his friends and the girls could feel comfortable. He also had no problem to make a hot water bottle for a girl so she has less cramps.
Lets not forget that not only is there regular sales tax on all those period items . They also have a luxury tax.

In sweden it's nolonger allowed to charge hair cuts based on gender.
You can charge differently depending on the cut, the style, hair lenght, treatment aso, but according to the law you're no longer allowed to charge higher only due to the gender of the customer.
Sweden is very forward thinking while 29% of America insists on dragging us back to the 1950s.

I’m a Latina woman who has THICC hair and a LOT of it. A haircut for me, without dying or anything, is already around $100. I had it dyed with highlights and it went up to $310 because I have so much hair so they need to use more product. My sister has a lot of hair too, but thinner, so her haircut and dye job would only be about $230. But even so, it’s still pricey…
Can we also talk about how much things cost that both women and men use, but women pay more? Women's deodorant, shampoo, razors -- all more expensive that men's, just because they're pink. And often not even as good of quality.
Theres actually a legit reason for that. Its because women make it a point to take care of themselves more than men, so women are the targeted consumer, which is why most commercials relate to them. Hair products, facial, feminine care, etc etc. lol
Honestly for products that work the same, I've started getting the men's version to save money. It's saved me a lot by now. 😅
@@gabrielgallegos8575 That's cuz society pressures women to look conventially attractive which requires makeup, hair products etc. When women don't look conventially attractive they generally have a more difficult time cuz of less job opprtuinities, being more judged and generally receiving bias from others cuz of their appearance so it's a lose-lose situation, you either spend more money on these products that are overtaxed just cuz of being a woman or don't and get less chances to earn money.
Nothing wrong with getting bras and panties at meijer/Walmart. The quality has gone up a lot lately.

The measurements on the dova cup are to keep track of your flow. We know that if you fill a tampon in less than an hour it could mean something is wrong and you should see a doctor, but diva cups can hold a lot more than tampons, so the measurements are basically to make sure youre not bleeding too much..
First step:
Declassify feminine hygiene products as "Luxury Items" and reclassify them as necessities to remove the stupid added tax on them.
I know some countries have done this, but most "First World" Countries are still yet to do so.
Sanitary products are free for those who need them in Scotland. It can be done.

As a guy, I agree. Being price-gouged just because one is born female is not anywhere near okay. Nobody chooses to be born a certain s€x, gender, race or whatever so in my mind this should be considered discrimination.

They should have reviewed how many bras a woman goes through in her lifetime or how long they typically last. And going into maternity wear (bras, shirts, etc ) would have been eye-opening.
The measurements on the diva cup are probably to help keep track of the flow. Some women can have almost dangerously heavy flows and this could give them a more exact amount of blood loss in the event they need to see a doctor about it. I don't know for sure as I've never used one, but that theory makes sense to me.
Also with the haircuts, we, as women, typically get charged more simply because we're women. An example. My bf and I went to the same stylist on the same day. All I needed was a trim, which took her about 20 minutes. She cut off about half of my bf's hair (he had a long ponytail), and trimmed up/styled his beard, which took her about 45 minutes. At the end, she charged him $20 and was about to charge me $45, but ended up charging me the same amount as him. I assume because she re-evaluated the amount of work done on each of us and realized it wasn't fair to charge me more than double for less than half the work done.

In case some women out there never thought off it - use a men's safety razor for shaving. The blades cost like 0.05$ a piece, have two sides to use and you will not cut yourself. It's a men's product tho, so you can only choose between the colours stainless steel, carbon, fighter jet and epic death by fist fighting a pack of lions.
Still doesn't change the fact that women are unnecessarily price-gouged by both the state and the private economy for the exact same products as men.
@@07Flash11MRC Ofcourse it doesn't. Also, I never stated, that my tip will change the way women get treated by society. Still, using these razors saves you alot of money and they shave better, as you can use a fresh blade every week or so.
8:23 What’s crazy is, that’s just for women with straight hair. Women with super curly hair types (more specifically black women) have to pay extra to get our hair done. For us black women to even get our hair braided can cost between 300-900 dollars depending on the style you get.
There's measurements on a diva cup/mooncup/menstrual cup because if your period is heavier than a certain quantity, then you should be consulting a medical professional about it.
Y'all need to do a comparison on men's and women's jeans.. price, lengths available and quality of pockets.. if they exist on the women's pairs.

T-shirts with actual sleeves, button shirts that do up around the neck, warm jumpers, trousers that are measured in inches, (In women's sizing I'm anywhere between 18 and 24 depending on where I'm buying from, XXXL if I'm buying cheap clothes online!), pockets I can fit my phone in, a waistband that sits on my actual waist not halfway down my hips, clothes with room to move...
My daughter is ten years old and most of the trousers marketed at her are 'skinny fit'. She already asks to shop in the 'boys' section. It's cheaper, too.

I used to color and cut my hair every 3 weeks because I was prematurely grey, since I was about 35 years old. It cost around $200 every time, which was about $5K a year. Over about 10 years, that's $45,000! During Covid, I stopped coloring it. Now, my hair is a beautiful grey/white color and I get compliments on it all the time!

I could answer with : "Well, why are there so many different type of razor and shaving cream ?"
But with product for menstruation, it is because no one have the same body. And there is women who can not use internal product like tampons and cups. For example : me. I was only able to use pads and external products. And men can not understand how having period can make your life a living hell. From the pain, the digestive problems, hormonal issues... And it is worse when you have endometriosis.

They should include things like socks. No joke I price checked women's socks against men and for the same size, same brand, same number of pairs of socks, men's socks were cheaper by about $3-$5. Then there's also shirts, pants, and swimwear, and shoes.

It's the same for all women's clothing. They will be thinner and use less fabric, but be more expensive.
As someone who sufferes from endometriosis, fibroids and polyps. Extremely heavy periods that last months at a time. I can tell you I have spent a significant amount of money on these products as I have to double up with tampons and pads snd change both hourly

I used to have to do that. I have PCOS and thankfully through diet and taking birth control my periods aren’t that bad anymore. Geez I remember how horrible that was.

I found the carnivore diet helped mine immensely but we have different problems.

I had heavy periods, everyone knew at work when I had my period I’d go out on my dinner hour and come back with a carrier full of Tampax and pads. Also not to be too gross all through my period I suffered horrible pain and diarrhoea.
You should have included birth control, shaving products and makeup 😅
I added up the cost of each thing, assuming the following:
You get haircuts maybe 3-4 times a year, but you do it basically all your life.
(Sometimes you go with cheap haircuts, sometimes with spendy cuts + color + perm or straightening, sometimes corrective measures from what the previous hair person did.)
You menstruate for roughly 40 years, on average.
You have sex while fertile for, on average, 30 years or so.
You wear bras for all but about the first ten years of life.
You wear shapewear, if you feel you must, for maybe 50 years.
Skin care can be extremely cheap, or extremely expensive, so I took an average.
Birth control on a regular basis for those who require it, plus the Plan B for post-assault purposes (dudes: try to remember that just because a person is pregnant doesn't mean THEY made any decisions at all).
Adding up all those averages, I got to about $200,000 over a lifetime.
Where I live, that's barely a downpayment on a starter home, but in some places I could buy a really nice house on 100 acres of land for that price.
Straight men: Consider that, next time you think someone owes you sex because you bought dinner and a movie.
I've spent more on one outfit picked out just for my guy's tastes than my guy has ever spent on dinner.

Straight up this was a blast to watch! These guys are total allies simply for how sweet they were and upbeat. I wish each of them were one of my guy friends. My own husband has no clue how much I used to spend on all that stuff before I switched to the most natural and reusable methods possible on the market.
That skincare kit was a sample size. LOL Also, can we talk about more missed days, on average because of illness, PMS or childcare... and the obvious wage gap?
Dry cleaning. Same Oxford shirt, but because the button holes are facing in different direction, women's dry cleaning is more expensive even though the man's shirt is larger. :-(
That one man who keeps tampons at his place is a winner in my book. A suggestion to him though keep some pads too because some women can’t use tampons or don’t like them.
One time I spent TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS on 2 bras. They weren’t even good bras.
I used to try to explain buying bras that were $70 on clearance. When you start special ordering, it’s ridiculous.

me too. I'm very confused. Also german. I spend...like...I guess...say 50€ a year on products and that includes pain meds? every time I see this statistics (mostly from the USA) I'm just concerned with how much these products have to cost elsewhere.

OK, so a lot of people are saying the prices in the video are too high. I guess it depends a lot on where you live, but to me it's kinda beside the point. I think the great thing about this video is being able to to discuss "women's stuff" with a bunch of young guys, out in the open, without a lot of sexual innuendo, or "yucky" remarks from the guys. Also, to educate men and get them to think about what women's experience is. Not just the costs, but the wide range of concerns women deal with. (By the way, why didn't they include the costs of birth control -- maybe comparing women's to men's?)

I buy guy stuff as foten as possible due to the F pink tax. I don't buy anything I don't need (I never go to any hair salon or whatever, or to get my body hair removed, I never buy make up. I wear teh shoes I buy until they decompose on me etc)
But mentrual stuff: I have no choice.....
They also failed to mention the OTC pain meds, the cost of doing more laundry, and replacing stained clothing and bed sheets. Then, there's missed work due to extreme cramps, which cost vacation days, if there's no sick leave, or, there's a day with no pay!
Also all the same products men use that women do cost MORE. I use a men's deodorant, it's the only one that hasn't caused me to break out and it lasts all day with a slightly masculine smell that I actually like.

Um, the side effects are long and wild, because the side effects of pregnancy are longer and wilder.
The haircut thing is ridiculous. I have short hair and always ask for a regular mens' cut. And ALWAYS get charged womens'-price :(
But I have seen one place listing prices for short hair vs long hair instead of men/women. Really hope that becomes regular practice in more places.

Man here, yeah not a luxury. Razors yes but for periods. Not at all. You guys having that stuff for it. Benefits everyone. Not just women. I'm all for in making them cheaper.

Unless society stops holding women to high beauty standards then I don’t think it should be priced as a luxury.
Do you think toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant is a luxury? Or is it a hygiene product?
Like in this country we are lucky enough to have access to those products when some don’t but it’s also an expectation in our society to have good hygiene and for women shaving is a part of those expectations.

When Covid 1st hit, my husband would order online and I would go to the store to pick everything up at the store outside location. When he had to get things I needed, it blew his mind at how expensive everything was. Even women's deodorant is more expensive. Before, I would just grab what I needed on my way home from work.
Pink tax sucks. I hate being a woman.
Years ago, I checked the price of women’s vs. men’s deodorant (same brand). I’ve been using the men’s ever since.
