Dan, same here, 50 degrees today, this weekend 18 degrees and snow, The glove Isle looks like the Saltine crackers Isle in the grocery store yesterday 🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
I like the all leather style glove as well. You need to throw some leather conditioner/waterproofer on them! I use a combination of neatsfoot oil and beeswax!👍
Thanks Dan, I would say the same for the Stihl gloves I had. Currently using my best pair yet, $10 Camel hide gloves from the PA farm show. I bought 2 pair, the first ripped in a matter of weeks, the second is right about two years old. I meant to get a lifetime supply this year but am now realizing I must wait until next January.
Since I am a cheap guy when it comes to cloths and accessories, I alway ask for good glove at Christmas from my family and they spare no expense. I do the same for them. :)
Yah Dan I get socks too, and they are smart wool. Once again I am to cheap to buy them but it is Ok to get them as a gift. Smart wool are my favorites.
Yeah they held up best and were more comfortable....even though I was wearing the other ones in the start of the video....hahaha, I didn't even realize that til I went to edit!
Good video Dan, but...I am cheapest of the cheap. Back when you could get WellsLamont handy Andy's for about 50 cents I bought about 200 pair. I take 2 or 3 pair and when they get wet change to dry pair. I do have pig skin gloves for fencing and summer work, nothing tougher.
Nice video on gloves Dan.I also had my first pair of Wells Lamont this year. The wife purchased them for me cause I kept passing them up because of the price. They lasted all winter as where the other pair I would be on my 3rd or 4th pair. Now I have the wife on the hunt to find another pair or two.
I have found that the cheap cotton glove inserts (granted pretty much a spring/summer glove) works really well they are only a dollar or two each and they hold up surprisingly well.
Good review, Dan. I always prefer leathers as well. Been wearing brown Kinco leather insulated gloves w/no cuff. 100G of thinsulate. Love em. Probably my favorite gloves ever, i happen to get these at an amish store near me. 👍 be cool, ill be looking for the next episode of the podcast
Great video. I'm trying out a new glove right now actually called the Splitter by Outdoor Research. Stay tuned to check out how well they work over the summer.
Thanks for the review on the wells Lamont gloves Dan. I almost bought some when I couldn't find the Kinko pigskin brand that Chris in the woodyard uses. Fortunately I did find the kinko brand online and used them for everything this winter. They did hold up well and kept our hands warm.
Yeah I wanted to get a pair of those, but couldn't find my size anywhere even online. Oh well....maybe next winter. Or if the weather keeps this up sometime in May when it's still below freezing....hahahahaha
So far the best glove I've found is the Youngstown Titan XT w/ Kevlar. I have a newer pair and and a well worn pair. They only wore out at the inner finger joints going across but the finger tips are intact. They're the only pair of gloves I have that have the fingertips intact, every other pair splits right down the side or wears through in the middle like you showed. I use them for cutting, stacking, running the splitter, and hand splitting with an 8lb maul, wedges, sledges, and fiskars splitting axes. I still do a fair amount of hand splitting every year so I'm extra rough on gloves.
I have not done much firewood this winter, too cold, to much wind, to much snow. I got a boat lot of knit and dipped gloves on hand most are the winter thermal ones for cold weather Take care
I use Hobart blue welding gloves my cost is $11 they last me for around a year but I don't cut and split as much as you do. I also spray mine to help keep them dry. I think it makes a difference for longer wear time.
Just threw out 3 pairs the other day that rubbed through at least one finger.. I kept them because you know how it is, thinking you might still use them, and I did occasiaonally, but it sucked. So out they went now. Hopefully I will find some in my area lol
I've had a few pairs of the Hydra Hide ones for a while now. I've used them so religiously, it feels really weird now even picking up my saw without them on.. 👍💪🇦🇺
I found some goat skin leather gloves at Harbor Freight for $9.99 that I like. The palms are grey leather and the top is nylon. I like them because they didn’t make my hands wet picking up snowy firewood. Since I like them I bought 4 more pairs. They are not as easy to hold onto logs but my hands were dry. Hardy is the brand. 57512 is the item number.
I typically buy the same gloves and have had the same luck with them! Spend alittle more money and get a better results! I ran into the same problem with either couldn't find gloves or didn't have my size XL!! Now iam having issues finding a new pair of work boots that are my size hahahaha!! Can't seem to win lol!! Stay safe my friend 🍺🍺💪💪🔥
I just buy the Latex Coated Work Gloves. They are not warm at all thou. I would use a liner in them but my hands are very large and the xxl will barely fit. My brother loves it when I buy a nice pair of leather work gloves and they get wet...shrunken gloves go to him...ha Weather is crazy alright...its almost 70f here and they are predicting snow tomorrow.
Yeah those latex coated ones are nice but not if it's cold out...lol....this weather has just been nuts. I wouldn't mind warm and then cooling down, but not to below zero again!! Hahaha 👍😀🍻
I once bought 3 pair of leather palm gloves for $10 total. They barely lasted through the first job! I generally don’t wear gloves. I enjoyed the video.
I buy the Atlas rubber gloves by the dozen. They are about $2.50 per pair and they last a long time. Been three years and I haven’t gone through 6 pairs yet. Looks like they are still available on Amazon. I don’t process as much as most people.
Interesting show Dan, here is an idea for another. Blindfold yourself and have Amazing Amanda give you several pieces of firewood and see how close you come to guessing the moisture content of them. If you see the wood, that could give you an edge on guessing.
the wells lamont -kinco gloves knock offs that Menards was selling - then reduced are great --about $5 discounted - kinco clones . I think Chris in the woodyard was wearing some in this weeks vids - stay safe - be cool
That would be cool...I've had a few emails to try out gloves, but they don't seem to be a good fit for firewood. Maybe Wells or Lamont will see this video and get in touch...lol
I don't know if you have a "Rural KIng" store in your area, but I have been buying some cloth gloves from this store. They are ugly as sin, but they last really well. They come in bundles of 12, I have found that they last as well or better than some leather gloves.
kinco makes a glove that looks like the cheaper pair you have and they are really good probably the best i have found i think they are made of pig skin i have tried the wells lamont like you have but they dont last as long as the kinco. kinco is 21 dollars roughly. looked on amazon 13 dollars.
I've been disappointed with Fleet Farm since not long after the new owners took over. I used to spend a considerate amount of money there, but since they don't seem to have a handle on stocking (even pre-covid) I've been splitting most of that between smaller local retailers and online transactions. I've been using some wells lamont gloves, they are a different style than yours (I can't stand the tight cuff). They've been working great - except when I misplace them. lol
Pig Hide does wear well but they're more slippery than cow hide. . You Faverd the 24.00 glove buy threm?? gorilla duct tape rip it into stripes and do repair to finger amazing stuff.
hi there real wood hounds don't need gloves they are tuff . dogs don't ware booties . and what is the real truth on the size gloves you need . good show take care john
Have you considered ordering other glove brands or models online? I have to think limiting yourself to what you can find at your local stores is very…limiting.
Hi Dan If your going to buy the expansive gloves again why don't you wright a review on your years usage of these gloves and send it to the glove company and say that you reviewed the gloves on your channel and here is a link to it you never know you may get some free bee in the post. Have a great day
I enjoyed watching this video! thanks for sharing
Dan, same here, 50 degrees today, this weekend 18 degrees and snow, The glove Isle looks like the Saltine crackers Isle in the grocery store yesterday 🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
I'll keep sending out the cold as long as I keep getting it....lol...yeah lots of bare shelves it seems in all categories.
I like the all leather style glove as well. You need to throw some leather conditioner/waterproofer on them! I use a combination of neatsfoot oil and beeswax!👍
Great video sharing

Huh...not sure I've heard of Camel hide before, interesting and crazy one pair lasted so much longer than the other...lol 👍😀🍻
Shifty. I always use the Uline, orange grippy palm. Unlimited supply from work. Thanks. SS. HF. BC.
I use insulated welding gloves for winter and cloth dipped in the summer.
My helper got gloves from the dollar store and they actually held up surprisingly well.
Since I am a cheap guy when it comes to cloths and accessories, I alway ask for good glove at Christmas from my family and they spare no expense. I do the same for them. :)
That's a good idea...I should add that to my lists. Usually I get socks...which also do come in handy cuz they seem to wear out just as fast...lol
Yah Dan I get socks too, and they are smart wool. Once again I am to cheap to buy them but it is Ok to get them as a gift. Smart wool are my favorites.
Thanks Dan, obvious result since the yellow 24$ ones were featured in most of your uploads last weeks.
Yeah they held up best and were more comfortable....even though I was wearing the other ones in the start of the video....hahaha, I didn't even realize that til I went to edit!
Wells Lamont hydrahydes. 2 pair made all winter. Dry warm hands for me.
My wife (Amy) and her mother got me some gloves from Costco for Christmas and so far they are holding up well
Good video Dan, but...I am cheapest of the cheap. Back when you could get WellsLamont handy Andy's for about 50 cents I bought about 200 pair. I take 2 or 3 pair and when they get wet change to dry pair. I do have pig skin gloves for fencing and summer work, nothing tougher.
That's a good idea with alternating gloves and having multiple pairs. 👍😀🍻
I try spraying my gloves down with a boot silicone spray or leather sealer. Seams to keep dry, not shrink and keeps them from getting stiff.
Ahhh nice tip...good feedback right there. Might have to try that out...thanks. 👍😀🍻
I hear the maple season is just getting going in Wisconsin.
I have found that the cheap cotton glove inserts (granted pretty much a spring/summer glove) works really well they are only a dollar or two each and they hold up surprisingly well.
My dad uses them, however I can't stand the way they feel on my hands...lol...but they do seem to hold up fairly well.
I've slipped three inch splinters in-between the seams of my gloves. No thank you on cotton only.

Best fire wood gloves are welding gloves. $25-30 bucks.

Pretty in depth review …
lol...well I'm not sure I'd that far, we'll just leave it at a 'review'...sort of! Hahaha 👍😀🍻

lol....ohh I've had that happen before with different brands. Start the day with a new pair, by the end of the day throw em away...haha
Have you tried the Kinco 1927KW pigskin leather gloves. Highly recommend!
Double layered buffalo hide leather with wool insert.
I buy the Atlas rubber gloves by the dozen. They are about $2.50 per pair and they last a long time. Been three years and I haven’t gone through 6 pairs yet. Looks like they are still available on Amazon. I don’t process as much as most people.

LOL...not a bad idea, however I've always heard to never let your wife blindfold you cuz ya never know for sure what she'll do! Hahahahaha... j/k
Do you think pig skin gloves are tougher than cowhide? I viewed kinco was good gloves, here in NC insulated gloves not needed as much your area.
Ive gotten pigskin gloves, they seem to hold up better than cowhide. Down in SE Georgia we get cold, but not as cold as y'all. Have a Safe Day
I've heard that as well about the pigskin....& I think Buffalo is suppose to be even better. 👍😀🍻
MCR safety Cut pro, kevlar hold up real good for me. They would not be great in extreme cold weather.
the wells lamont -kinco gloves knock offs that Menards was selling - then reduced are great --about $5 discounted - kinco clones . I think Chris in the woodyard was wearing some in this weeks vids - stay safe - be cool
Kinco cowhide gloves last quite a while. Just don't get them wet much. 20 bucks.
I really like wells lamont hydro hyde
Have you considered work mittens?
Sounds like a new sponsor may help the channel out lol. Good luck!
That would be cool...I've had a few emails to try out gloves, but they don't seem to be a good fit for firewood. Maybe Wells or Lamont will see this video and get in touch...lol

Kinco is one I wanted to try...the Buffalo skin ones...but they either didn't have my size or they didn't have them available at all.

I agree with the Fleet Farm statement for sure! I like the tight cuff to keep snow and sawdust from ending up down inside...lol 👍😀🍻

Yep the duct tape repair is the way to go for the small holes. 👍😀🍻
You guys look like you been hit harder then we have been over here for supplies
just like boots - need to use some conditioner or oil - it will keep the leather in shape and last a little longer
That's a good point....I should use something on them to keep them in better shape...thanks. 👍😀🍻

We pay 36 euro for Stihl chainsaw gloves which are excellent .
I never find 4x-5x gloves

get a new set of the better gloves, pre-wrap the fingers with duct tape and replace the duct tape when worn out, save on the leather. Last longer?
