When my daughter was born I had always been a hyper organized productive powerhouse. It 2 weeks for me to realize that spending idle time with my baby was more important to me than reorganizing something. However, I did go back to work part time when she was 3 weeks old. So I get it girl.
I think your cabinetry and design for it that you created is the "Whoa!" for your kitchen and to have busy or a lot of movement in your countertops might be too much. But it's your kitchen to decide!
Kinsley stealing the pacifier is classic! I think the stone you went with is more calming and the other was too cold/white once you showed them next to each other. I've seen some show stopper stone in photos but it could get old after a while.

Calm is good in a kitchen because you spend so much time in there as a young family. I like ton of movement in spaces that you use less often. You and Romeo are in sync and worked well to get what suits you and your space. You made "sweet lemonade" out of a lemon 🍋situation!
Losing that dolomite countertop turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Although harder than marble, it can still stain, etch, show scratches, unlike quartz or granite, and the new color is MUCH better. You make an excellent point about trying to put pieces with more movement into place without strange joins. Love to see you relaxing happily into your new lifestyle. Kinsley with the pacifier is truly frame-worthy- perhaps part of the packaging for a "Pacifier Blue" candle?

That’s so shady! We paid for quartz 2 months before we needed it at IKEA. What a mistake!!! When it was time to pick up, it was out of stock. We were told that we would have to wait 6 weeks for it to come in. Luckily, we were able to pivot, get a better countertop and have it installed within 3 days from another supplier. IKEA didn’t want to refund our $7,000 payment! They were horrible to work with and we’ll never go back.
The muslin cloths are great to throw over your shoulder when burping them after their feed as the soak up the spit up really well and saves your clothes lol! It’s crazy how many you need at the start and then all of a sudden you haven’t used them in months! It goes by so quick.
What a bummer. If it makes you feel better, I think it might be a cultural difference coming form Texas. Where I live, a hold is usually for a short period of time (24-48 hours? maybe up to 1 week?). After a couple weeks, it would be assumed that you are no longer interested if you haven't contacted the store to arrange payment or at least put down a deposit. I hope you find something that you love even more. I think you will. You always find a way to turn lemons into lemonade!

Your warning about them is more than valid and as a fellow consumer I want to know who isn’t up to par with product and service!!! Nothing will change if no one speaks up. Also I always appreciate knowing things like that to save me time and visits while shopping around!

Heck with my first child I was gonna go back to work just as soon as they tell me I could do it, but once he was born and I was holding him in my arms had no I wasn’t going back to work. I’m gonna stay home with him! I wish I could go back on my benchtop. I would have picked a matt stone. The lighting, because there is a sliding door and a big window, bouncing off my bench tops shows all the streaks. It drives me crazy and makes my kitchen look dirty.
You have so much of that stone left over. will you be having fabricator cut out pieces for your bathrooms? Even a shelf or two could be made for use in kitchen or even on wall outside by kitchen and pool. Very exciting. Cade is amazing and so sweet. Glad you are breastfeeding too.

A month is too long. You should have called them to let them know you still wanted it, but delayed in getting it. To extend it. Just to make sure it was locked in. You should do that within two weeks if no down payment.
People don't wait till the last minute to order their stone. It sits on hold for months! The saleswoman should have asked for timeframes and told them a deposit is required for holds over 10 days or whatever their policy is. This was NOT MaCenna's fault. The saleswoman should have told the next customer that it was on hold and she needed to check on the status to see if she could sell it to them or not. Then she should have picked up the phone. She simply got greedy.
The same thing happened to us. They knew it was a construction project, they were referred by our builder, etc. No call, etc. Same rudeness. I was livid, too.

Ikea has items in US that cost that much?! here in Europe you would get a huge complete kitchen with everything in it already (including countertops)

The saleswoman should have asked for timeframes and told them a deposit is required for holds over 10 days or whatever their policy is. This was NOT MaCenna's fault. The saleswoman should have told the next customer that it was on hold and she needed to check on the status to see if she could sell it to them or not. Then she should have picked up the phone. She simply got greedy.

The same thing happened to us. They knew it was a construction project, they were referred by our builder, etc. No call, etc. Same rudeness. I was livid, too.
