How to program ESP32 CAM using Arduino UNO

- In this tutorial video, I have shown you how to program ESP32 CAM using Arduino UNO. Here I have not used FTDI or any other USB to TTL converter to program ESP32CAM board.
During the video, I have shared Arduino esp32cam board connection and all the required setting in Arduino IDE for uploading code to ESP32CAM using Arduino.
If you follow all the steps shown in this video, then you should not get any connection error, but still, if you get any error then disconnect the Arduino from the esp32 camera module and try it again.

Do I just flash it even though the programmer is not available?
Flashed it and it worked. To all, be aware, on my ESP32-CAM (ESP32-S) one of the GND pins, is not actually a GND and gave fatal error bla bla. Changing the GND connection to the 2nd GND pin, the flashing worked just fine. Remember to disconnect the GPIO 0 from GND after flashing, open Serial Monitor and only then press RESET on your ESP32 in order to execute the programme and get the IP. In case the response is "............" check your SSID/pass for typos. Good luck!

I am trying hard to do this with the interface cable and it never worked with a DM brand ESP32.cam. Using Arduino as described works great! Thanks a great deal. This puts an end to my frustration and failure using the USB to UART adapter. I was able to use AI Thinker setting in the IDE and Arduino worked great for the DM branded cam board. Thanks again, a whole lot!

i have this problem in the serial monitor:

then the loading dots appear and they don´t stop loading, it just goes on and nothing happens, is there any solution?

I got it to go after a few tries. Also yes to set Programmer to 'AVR ISP' you need Arduino IDE 1.8.12. It's not on the 1.8.13 version. Thank you very much!

Try it:
swithch On the Hotspot on ur mobile and connect ur laptop through wifi also connect module to that same network
search the ip on ur mobile browser or laptop browser.
@@gokulakrishnan527 My laptop and the module are already connected on the same wifi network. But still, it can't reach the page when I search the IP address. I will try to use other WiFi network. Thanks..

1 year later, version 2.04 of the library and things have change. Now I cannot reproduce this at all. What's worse version 1.04 has apparently been altered somehow and can no longer select a programmer for the board at all. What a pity.
However with the new version I found out that using "Upload using Programmer" (from the Sketch menu) seemingly does the job. I had to reconnect the Arduino to the PC and then restart the serial monitor.

you probably have the arduino ide version 1.8.13, just get the previous version

@@benmaynard3059 Hi, I wanted to use it in a robot to do facial recognition. But the quality was so bad that I didn't use it in the end. I don't know if it was a manufacturing defect or the camera which was basic like that.
You can use it as a surveillance camera on a webserver, and you can acces to the video from internet...

Appreciate it. If you're on Mac and get a "exec: "python": executable file not found in $PATH" error you need to run the commands sed -i -e 's/=python /=python3 /g' ~/Library/Arduino15/packages/esp32/hardware/esp32/*/platform.txt in the terminal.

Thanks!! Worked. I see some having trouble with "Programmer: AVR ISP" but I'm using Arduino IDE at version 1.8.13 without this setting, in programmer I just left with nothing and worked.

You need to select the ESP32 board before the examples will show.
Nice video! First had some problems after uploading the sketch, because serial monitor show that the camera are not found, after add a external 5V power supply, everything works well! Just happy to see my own face :-)

Thank you very much!!! One small difference from your example. Ordered ESP32-CAM that now comes with little programming shield board which connects to computer's USB. Other than this small change ... I didn't need Arduino board for programming ... your example was perfect!

In the video you are showing a ESP32 board not the camera board. For some reason, although it's trying to connect, it's not connecting with the camera board. I tried reversing the RX and TX lines and that didn't work. Can it be a wrong board in the Arduino IDE? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hit and miss but it seems to work. Sometimes it works, other times doesn't. You may need a CP210x USB driver.

Sir, I followed every ste but I don not have the AVR ISP programmer. The programmer does not show up under Tools>programmer. It said that "No available programmer in this board". Im using Arduino Uno by the way.

Had similar issue using 1.8.13 To make it work i chose "AI THINKER ESP32-CAM " From the Board drop down. Then continue with the instructions in the video.

the urls don't work. I can't get the esp 32 into my examples. it would be so nice, if the info in the video actually was on the arduino program. turning out to be a major frustration. I am an A+ certified computer tech with 20 years exp. this is written well, just not up to date, or just plain wrong. but so far, I'm not getting anywhere. there is no way to teach it to children, if I can't figure it out. everything [points to those two urls, but they don't work, nothing but error messages, and no answers how to fix it, just more and more sites and people pushing that url.

Hi I found very helpful video you have made. I need your help or advise, I have no experience in electronics I just want a simple direction if possible. I am building a tracking motion with ESP32-CAM and Arduino NANO, but the servos I want to control are The Bescor PS-260 AC Power Supply for MP-101 Motorized Pan Head features a 120-240VAC, 60/50Hz input and 6VDC, 700mA, so how can I include a controller ESP32-Arduino and some voltage controller to adjust what I need to move the servos? I don't know the terms I need to say to explain what I need, so please bear with me in this matter and I appreciate any guides you can provide to accomplish this Home Made device. Regards

Unfortunately this did not work for me. I followed the instruction exactly until setting the "Programmer" under "Tools" on the Arduino Uno. The line states: "No programmers available for this board". Also the USB port on the laptop does not designate it is as "Arduino Uno" as in the instructions, just COM5. I've check the spelling of the preferences additions many times.
