Thank you for me helping me and many other 9 graders out there! I think your channel will be really helpful for me and many students. I am a class 9 student and one hobby I have picked up to do this summer is crocheting. I am self- learning it through youtube and I have learnt pretty alot. I struggled alot in the starting and at one point I thought of giving up but now I am able to see good results. I have crochet a flower, a square and am currently making a purse. I hope I will improve by the end of summer!

Ive been working on my profile this year. Ive gotten into the Psychology club at my school and I just recently passed my orange belt test in Karate. Im planning on going to at least brown. I managed to gain the interest of my teacher and she is thinking of making me the coordinator of the psychology club! Because my parents are both doctors, I can get in touch with Psychiatrists, I could make some interesting workshops for the other members!
I've also started to improve my mindset. Ive picked up crocheting and I've come far with it, I'm few months in and now I can make Amigurumi plushies easily! I recently got back into reading and im working on my studies and my broken sleep cycle. I will do ANYTHING in my power to get into either Harvard or Yale. I'm slowly improving in my studies and ive started to enjoy school. Ive cut all my toxic ties with friends who wont benefit me in either way and I am 1000% ready to sacrifice the next four years of my life to get out of this country. I honestly think ive made a pretty good start. Im aiming for Island ranks on my GCSE's which may seem impossible, but not nearly enough to pull me down. I will get impressive results for them, I've already promised myself. Sorry for ranting, this is a whole essay, but I feel so proud of myself recently, I feel like I'm on track! One step at a time!💓☺️

Thank you so much for this! After school it depends on the day cause i have classes on some days but i usually just sleep for an hour or two (since i go to bed at 1, i know it's unhealthy i'm working on improving that), then i wake up and practice piano for a bit, study/prepare for upcoming comps till around 7:30, i go cycling for an hour and a half, come back and play video games for a while, study a bit more, then probably just doodle a little before going to bed :)

I genuinely take a short nap after-school,😂. Jokes apart, I write stories and poems when i have a brainstorming idea. OR, Explore my garden with my mom and asking her about endangered plant species, biological names etc. All in all i spend most of my evening exploring things that i feel inquisitive about.😊

Is it fine if I apply on 13th grade in high school or you must apply when you're at the end of 12th grade. For activities, I have chosen programming/coding as my passion project for colleges like Harvard? Do they accept this subject? Additionally, I think I need to attend more than 3 extracurricular activities. Currently I have attended volunteering, environmental research, and programming which are my passion subjects, or do I need more?
Is PrepScholar recommended for improving my SAT score?
My final question: My school doesn't contain any AP courses, only general classes. Does it affect the application process?

Quality over quantity for activities
You can use any way to learn, Khan academy has some free resources
Most international student's own school never provide AP courses, they study on their own and give exam at test centers
My routine is a little quite busy because after i come from school i have my classes to do i mean coaching and so i don't get more time for extracurricular activities

I really wanted to ask if you can provide us with a helpful resource which lists all high-school opportunities which can be helpful for our college app and give us a better experience in our areas of interest (STEM) like prestigious competitions, internships, programs etc. I tried searching for some but many of them are for US residents only. Hi, i know im not the first one to comment this, but i would also like to thank you for the efforts you're putting in for us students, especially when most of us don't have any idea what we're doing. One thing i would want to ask is that in what years do us high school students give the ap exams? is it grade 12? or grade 10? and when do they start the prep? Since in india there are no schools that prepare for ap exams, so id really like knowing when to start preparing for them
You can write AP exams anytime in high school- there is no strict guidelines on when you have to give them. Some students write 5-10 each year so that by the time they are applying for colleges, they have >20 APs.

this is just a hobby so you will have to either win a tournament to have it considered as a honor or teach others/join a club around the areas of taekwondo to make it a good extracurricular (example of outstanding activity can be teaching taekwondo to women for safety in your school)

AP exams happen only once a year in India..so even of we start by 9th..it will be around 6 exams all together at the max that can be taken if a student is from CBSE curriculum..will that be a disadvantage?

Same bro I didn't do anything now I'm regretting now I'm in 12th grade but rather than regretting nd feeling guilty for not doing anything it's better to start improving nd learning which contributes to our development use everyday consistency do something worthy which shows ur improvement from last year upward trajectory, nd if u rlly wish to study in top university I recommend to take a gap year which gives more time to improve ur profile nd also time to explore ur interests nd many more opportunities to work on. don't waste ur time regretting start doing my friend nd don't think about past it is impossible to go in past nd fix things past is past don't view it as a failure but more like a learning experience nd start developing yourself for upcoming opportunities!!

Hi there, I am a 9thie and though I am young I think I can still give you some advice. Extra-curriculars (ECs) are important and stats too to strengthen your application but the most important thing is the essay. Work on your essay. Its not what you did in school a 3-4 para descriptive thing. You need to tell your story, about you and how it reflected on your life. In short, you need to share a memory of yours. In class 11 and 12 maintain good grades. Your highschool (9-12) gpa (marks) get submitted so focus on that too. If you are balancing everything good work on stats and ECs. For stats, participate more in contests, online or in-person. For ECs start learning a sport, instrument or maybe pick up a hobby like start a youtube channel. Basically explore your area of interest. And if you are still confused I suggest talking to your schools college counsellor or get advice from someone experienced ( youtube is a helpful resource and you can maybe take an appointment for one-on-one college counselling calls too) If anyone spots a mistake in my reply please correct me it will be appreciated. Essay competitions (Online)- JLI essay contest, Goi peace foundation, Harvard crimson essay contest etc.
STEM- there are plenty of competitions in this vast field. Some global ones are - ISEF (science and engineering fair), Junior Science & Humanities Symposium, conrad challenge etc
Commerce- Blue ocean challenge, diamond challenge, IEO (Economics olympiad)etc.
I appreciate you for helping your son out. I am also a 9th grader currently studying in DPS R.K. Puram. Today, I reached out to my father saying I wanted to participate in a program, he denied. He doesn't know US admiss. are not fully merit-based and ECs and Stats have some value too. He simply asked me to not to get distracted by such things and focus on my academics first. I value academics too and I give importance to ECs too. I missed out an prestigious opportunity because of this. Anyways thanks and good luck! Best wishes from my side!

@@CrazyMedusa is it important to be physically present at the point from where I 'm at the closest reach with those scientists I prefer...I mean I have been watching fermilab public lectures (Fermilab in USA is the home to world's largest partical accelerator and discoveries in field of dark matter, neutrinos and many other have been done there)
I have spent my 9th and 10th in COVID pandemic so I had a lot of time at home in which I read books by Stephen Hawking, Leonard Mlodinow, Roger Penrose and even books of higher classes because I got so much thrilled by first time reading the atomic structure, Newton's theories in so deep, but how would I prove this to the Universities there in US and UK where I want admission into??
The college's and the university here does not have a good environment, professors with fake pH d, even the former IIT professor HC Verma, so called experimental physicist as given on the Google, copies questions from Russian books and is famous for his physics book for jee preparation, has no talent of a scientist but still full of arrogance. Even the former MIT professor Walter Lewin showed that the solution given by HC Verma is not correct. It would be better if I would be living in Bengaluru, then I might get the chance to visit Iisc but that's not possible
