    This video was very informative. As an author for a small publishing company who doesn't even format our books properly 🙄 or use real editors, this is EXCELLENT & VALUABLE information.

    Even as a reader and amateur writer, I love hearing about book deals. It's so fascinating to see writers go through the stages of their publishing journey. (Plus, I know which books I'd like to keep an eye on.)

    And this is exactly what I used to research literary agents haha and I also did that tip because my agent is newer of seeing who she was being mentored by and looking at their sales, such a super helpful tip

    Thank you so much for the knowledge you shared! I just got a partial request from Ginger Clark from Curtis Brown Ltd! I am ecstatic as she's super picky, but a huge time agent. I know she doesn't keep up her PM page.

    I think plopping down the $25 for one month will be worth it. I'm a first time publisher, and I'd like to go the traditional route. I finished the 2nd draft of my romance novella last month...now on to logistics! Looks like The Knight Agency is something I should look into, for sure!

  • @SolveForX
    @SolveForX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Is it still true that when querying literary agents that you typically shouldn’t query the agent you want, but rather a newer agent with fewer clients who simply works for the same company? The idea has traditionally been that, like, Stephen King’s agent 1) Isn’t going to have a space for you, and 2) Isn’t going to put in the kind of effort to get your work placed as would an agent with a smaller roster. Thanks

      @AlexaDonne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes, this is generally a sound strategy, though it depends largely on your book as well as timing. If someone has something really stellar, super special... I might encourage them to "shoot their shot" with the bigger name agent, especially if the agency allows requeries. But 95% of the time it's a sounder strategy to query newer, hungrier agents actively building tehir lists. A list agents are super picky/selective and are looking for easier nos.

    Thank you for this! I am already agented with my debut coming out in a few months, but I have been wondering whether or not I should upgrade my free version to a real subscription to PM. I am hugely curious about new deals but couldn't decide if it would be a good investment. This video has been so helpful!!

    Month 9 Books screwed a writer friend of mine over their book deal. Although it wasn't me, to this day I resent them for what they put my friend through. Forever a red flag for me. 😒🙅🏾‍♀️

    hello, i’m wondering if you could make a video or mention in one, some sort of advice or tips on moving from chapter to chapter and how to keep it flowing. I’m working on a hp fanfic right now and i’m struggling with ending chapters and then starting the next while keeping it flowing and not separating every event too much. :)

  • @CharlieeWriter

    That was so helpful! I also have another question regarding double genre publishing... I know from your previous videos how important word count is. If you write a double genre story, is it okay for your word count to be in between the two genre ideals? Or should I just stick to the word count of one genre and write/market agents for that?

    Hey Alexa! Do you still help out new authors when they recieve an offer from an agent? I received an offer the other day and have a few interested. Didn't realize how overwhelming it would be haha

  • @augdenforeman1206
    @augdenforeman1206 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dont know if this was said already but the “2:32 PM Overview” time stamp in the description isn’t working and therefore didn’t segment the video properly. It’s probably because of the PM and TH-cam thinks it is a time and not a time stamp. Easy fix though.

    • @AlexaDonne
      @AlexaDonne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's majority US, but some agents from other countries do report to it, though generally far less. So some UK agents report to PM, but it's not as comprehensive a resource.
