    Great job, Joe. One of my Uncles (named Joe) was a Tank Commander in Korea. (And later the Fire Chief of Passaic, NJ.) :-) RIP
    Would love for you to take a look at a couple other PC war games: the very appropriately named "Hex of Steel". And another from the same creator, "Cauldrons of War -- Stalingrad."
    These sorta games are probably rather popular right now since we're all heading toward Armageddon. . .

      Thanks Carl. You a Jersey guy? I grew up in Jersey City - live in Ohio now, but you can probably tell from my accent that I haven't quite lost those East Coast roots.
      Both the games you mention are on my Steam wishlist currently. I think Hex of Steel is currently on sale and I might pick it up. Not sure when I'd fit it in for video, but it could slot in somewhere down the road.

      @@HexedAndCountered Thanks, Joe. I thought you sounded a lot like my dad's family. :-) Yeah, my dad (one of 12 kids) was from the Passaic/Clifton/Patterson area. But I'm a Brooklyn guy (with a long detour in LA/SF).
      Looking forward to your Stone Cold preview. Now that I've played it for a couple weeks, it is FAST. And Richard Hanna -- renowned for exquisite detail and depth -- is doing the PC version of a QP game. Hmmm....
      Can't wait.

    Really enjoying this series! A couple of things I noticed, you used 2D6 to select the type of targets, when you actually needed to roll 1D10 (could have saved you the from the dreaded Panther). Also, in a Movement to Contact, the Germans behave similarly to an Attack mission, in that they get to attack first on the first turn (there is a great summary on the back of the rulebook at the bottom). I look forward to this one coming out on Vassal, as the counter density surrounding the playing area can get a little crazy (I had pieces spread out all over the place).

      Ugh, yes, needed to a roll the d10 there and it definitely increased the odds of pulling the Panther. That's one I'll definitely remember from now on.
      The Movement to Combat is a bit confusing. At the top of the Sequence of Battle on the back of the rulebook, the very first thing it says is "If the current mission type is Attack or Assault, begin the first Combat Round by completing Step 3 and Step 6" - those steps being determining if the enemy targets you and then resolving the attacks if they do. It clearly doesn't say Movement to Contact there, but at the bottom under the Movement to Contact mission type, as you mention it says that MtC is "Same as Attack, but enemy forces not dug in on 1d6 roll of 1-2" - which is what makes it confusing.
      I am opting to go with what it says at the top. Two reasons: first, it makes sense to me that with four mission types, two (Attack & Assault) would allow the enemy to shoot first and the other two (Movement to Contact and Defend) would allow the player to shoot first. The other reason is that it specifically mentions only Attack & Assault (with those being bolded as well) when noting that the enemy goes first. I could be wrong, and hopefully Gregory Smith will address that in his errata & clarifications he's been doing. Until then, I would say this falls under "play it the way you think you should play it."
      Wow, that became a really long response. Thanks for watching and also for the feedback - much appreciated!

    Again great job on the video. I am confused a bit by the "Buttoned up" -1 DRM. I see you don't use it for the gunner using main gun/or his bow MG. Is this because they are never unbuttoned? Ive been playing it incorrectly, Ive been applying the -1 DRM for buttoned up on all fire from my tank when Buttoned up. Really appreciate these videos.

    • @gcsaunders58
      @gcsaunders58 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the designer just clarified that the buttoned up die roll modifier applies to the commander. The button up for the asst driver applies to the bow MG and to the driver the hull down attempt. That said, my game just arrived and I haven’t played it yet.

    • @HexedAndCountered
      @HexedAndCountered  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Glenn - I just read the errata and see the entry for that now. I agree that it should apply when the commander is buttoned up (likely due to his helping direct fire), although that's not how I was playing it.

    • @HexedAndCountered
      @HexedAndCountered  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you're playing it correctly. The gunner is always "buttoned up" because he's inside the turret at all times, but based on the errata posted online, it looks like if the commander is buttoned up the DRM applies to main gun fire. The other positions work as Glenn outlined.

      @@gcsaunders58 I think that modifier also regards the A. Driver firing the bow mg

    This game seems punishing. I watched all three videos and can't see how you are going to survive very long, especially when you come up against german tanks. Good job with the videos I'll keep watching.

    • @HexedAndCountered
      @HexedAndCountered  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, definitely punishing. In the Designer Notes in the rule book Gregory Smith does a great job of explaining how & why it's punishing. In a nutshell he says it's about penetrating the armor - when that happens, that's pretty much game over. And in WWII, especially early on, the Sherman just wasn't armored or gunned well enough to take on the German panzers (especially the Panther & Tiger) head-to-head. The game illustrates that pretty well. I figure if I can survive long enough to get into the newer models, things will get (a little) easier.

    • @mtaran02
      @mtaran02 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, however you could always start with a more advanced tank later in the war, or a what if scenario and imagine the impact if the Pershing came along much earlier in the war (just for the pure fun of it).

    Thanks again for this great videos. You are right, I´m not sure if the german movement will be only in the first turn or you can move german units in next turns.

      The good news is the designer is posting errata and clarifications on the game's group on Facebook. I would guess they'll show up other places as well (BGG, Compass Games site I would hope). No clarification on that particular item yet.

    • @HexedAndCountered
      @HexedAndCountered  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are rules specified that the enemy vehicles were to move to flanking positions (D on the left where the halftrack moved and E on the right where the PzV moved).
