There are SO many watermelons everywhere. One question is what is the black tarp for and how do you stop the squirrels and rabbits from eating them. I've tried to grow one vine every year and they "always" get eaten from animals before they're even fully grown (sometimes they eat the seeds).
Good Day....the black tarp we called it plastic mulch (use to prevent weeds and retain moisture of the soil... I'm not an expert of controlling the existence of squirrels in any plantations...but in my own opinion I think you should put a fence which make it unable to penetrate in you farm..or..you can hang you watermelons on trellising nets, Ang when fruits emerge you can cover it with nets also..
You can't pollinate unopen female flowers...During the reproductive stage...Male flowers go out first...always remember to pollinate early in the morning when the pollinate grains is till moist...
Hi sir... We have to pollinate each male flower with each female flower or otherwise we can pollinate with one male flower to all female flowers... Please tell me sir... Iam waiting for your reply..
Good day Po...yes Po self pollinated na Po sya...mostly for F1 varieties, Kasi for large plantations Hindi mo na Po Kay I manual pollinate Po yan lahat, Actually po in your backyard garden you can manually pollinate your melons if you see there are less pollinators around or the weather is unfavorable..sa ganyang paraan makakasigurado ka na tutuloy Po Ang bunga..
Take a paintbrush 🖌️ w you and pick a male flower and dab the paintbrush in the pollen and "paint" the pollen inside the female flowers. hope this helps
@@JessicaBlaze89 I did that. I’ve also used Qtips. I’ve also rubbed the male flower on the female flower directly…. Tons of pollen on the female flower…. But no melons… 😞😩
Thank you, quick and direct god bless

AWESOME Idea, I will do this to mine very soon, THANK YOU!

Black tarp is to keep weeds under control and keeps the fruit off the ground
you may need to invest in some form of see through covering? maybe a plastic storage bin. the black tarp may be to keep the soil warm

What are the difference between the male flower and the female flower
What if the little female flower that look like cone hats aren’t open yet
The males are first. The females later so don't worry. I've had at least 20 picked in two weeks and I planted late.
male and female flower caps open early in the morning

Even when I hand pollinated….no fruit produced. It looks like it was fertilized but then just turns yellow and falls off. ☹️
