Hey Matthew! Very nice bike and I like the colo(u)r. I bought mine in standard perl orange :) Thanks for the idea for mounting the Lezyne pump. I didn't manage to find a place to mount it so carried it in the front pannier. Never thought of that place to mount it :) Have thousands of nice and safe miles on that beautyful bike :D
I'm trying to decide between this and something like the NAZCA Pioneer. This is quite lightweight in comparison with the steel NAZCA (3kg difference, you feel the difference when you pick them up, but 3kg against me and luggage maybe less so). The NAZCA has large wheels and the roads/tracks here aren't that smooth. Does the front wheel with suspension work well on rougher surfaces? Interesting about the rear light. I didn't know it had that feature. Thanks - Richard
Doh! Sorry, I missed that. I'll check it out. I bought a second-hand Gte about 18 months ago but it turns out that I'm just too short. I wear sandals strapped to the bottom of my shoes to just barely let me touch the ground. I've been encouraging my older son, who is 5" taller, to give it a try. Just last week, he finally did. He loves it, of course, and we've been out on four rides, together, so far. So, I gifted it to him. They are phenomenal machines. I'd love to find a good second-hand Speed Machine, as I feel confident I'll be able to reach the ground on that. :D
Matthew would you mind me asking which dealer you used when buying the GTe? I'm looking into getting a Grasshopper fx and am wondering which of the UK dealers are best. Good luck with your trip.
I have a very good friend Jason in Madrid Spain who sold me the frameset only. www.3ike.es He is English, living in Spain. I have never dealt with the UK dealers for larger items, but I personally would go to Bikefix in London ( though they never seem to have stock of what I want!) I found the chap in Scotland to be a little arrogant and unfriendly. Perhaps that was just my experience though. I have ridden the Grasshopper. It's a great little machine, but a little too small for me as I am tall.
@@thegreek2213 I was wondering as well. It looks like the Grasshopper is a little bit more reclined, which I've heard might take some pressure off of the glutes when riding, but might strain the neck a little bit more.
@Matthewkh that's fantastic would you say this model would be a great recumbent for a newbie like myself for example easy acclimatization to the different riding style?
Thank you for the review! That's a great-looking ride!
A quick tour of the bike I will be using on my expedition through this summer

Wow it's brilliant must have cost you a pretty penny too

Matthew Hopkins Thanks for the reply. Hope you post some more videos while you are on your trip.

Just bought a 2013 model GTE and it will most likely be my steed for the Trans America. How did you do on your tour?
I'm still travelling. See my blog link above. The bike has been great. No problems and only basic maintenance, so far. Still loving the ride...
How'd you rate the under the seat steering?
I have not ridden any other versions but I find this one very comfortable and stable.
How does it handle urban riding
It’s a very versatile ride. On and off road. No issues riding through dense cities or country lanes.

Have you motorized it as yet?
No motor and no plans to either. Too much extra weight for no significant gains. Not my thing.
