I have an idea for these manufacturers. REMOVE the speakers on the front and save the consumer some money. So tired of these UST Laser projectors that don’t even have 3D, which costs nothing to implement, yet they add a half assed surround sound speaker that NOBODY uses in a theater. I also, do not need Android, and Firestick pre installed into my Projector. I can easily use as Playstation or Xbox, Nvidia Shield, Chromecast, etc. Why do these companies waste resources on useless things like this. We already have tablets and smartphones, so just plug a LAN cable in and run your media from one of those devices through your home network. Nope, gotta add a bunch of crap that I already own into the projector to get another $1000 0r $2000 out of my wallet.
AWOL models offer 3D. This is our affiliate link. shrsl.com/3vkhb Companies could cut costs off the internal speakers. However, for USTs to remain super easy to use I think they need a decent speaker and Smart TV OS for people less technically inclined.
I think, for the most part, manufacturers of UST projectors want their units to compete against flat panel TVs for viewing in bright rooms. So they believe good speakers and built-in streaming are things that most of their buyers are looking for. For a home theater, why not use a standard long throw projector mounted on the ceiling or rear wall? You can get some really good ones in this price range.
I believe to have true unbiased ranking you have to hide the projectors or cover them so no one can see what brand box is being used. Same with tvs, cover everything and only show the image.
The scores are aggregates based on the ratings from 7 judges. In its "Natural" color preset mode (which was the most accurate), the Epson UST projector wasn't overly bright, compared to the competition. I think it scored third overall for reproduction of bright content. It did produce a nice image though on almost all of the content. Definitely a bargain at its price
@@ChrisBoylan That's what I was hoping! It definitely looked like the most accurate color (based on the youtube video displayed on my un-calibrated computer monitor) Thanks for the reply!
Too many variables to give an objective answer. Screen material, size of screen, costs of projectors, specs of each projector, amount of light in the room, calibration level, are all going to be a factor along with seating distance from the screen.
Thanks @@ecoustics - I'm building a 6x4m cinema room from scratch. Ceiling is too low at 2.3m after soundproofing etc. I already purchased the Foremovie for film and the Optoma CinemaX D2 for gaming. However I cant get a 4m wide screen without digging a hole in the floor or ceiling lol soooooo now looking at something like the Epson LS12000. With the Foremovie having Dolby Vision and no long throw having this was just wondering why an UST did and a long throw didnt. But the cost of long throw goes very high but UST doesn't. :)
Thanks @@ecoustics - I've not looked at short throw yet. Anything better that comes to mind than the Epson ? Otherwise Time to jump down this rabbit hole of investigation :)
@@ecoustics I had a tcl 6 series 75 inch tv. I wouldn’t say it gets as clear as that if you’re looking for soap opera mode. As we adjusted the color and other settings, we both said “wow” a bunch of times. We used Netflix’s Our Planet to adjust the color. Picture looked great overall. Only problem was that we couldn’t get it to connect to Wi-Fi.

What good are all the high numbers for the LG when it's unwatchable due to its obvious and in some cases pronounced rainbow effect? You can't simply dismiss this by claiming, "Well, some people are bothered by it more than others." No. It is an inherent limitation of the technology incorporated into that device. Anyone can see it when they start looking for it. Then it's game over.
Awol for me, has Dolby Vision, HDR 10+ and also supports 3D which is a big +

One of the main reason I chose Awol, it has 3D :)
Great video. Loved the technical discussion - it made sense. Appreciate the effort

Agree.
How did the Epson not have a high brightness rating with the 4000 ANSI lumens?

which project is fourth from the left at 11:00? The one with the guy in front of it. That looks like the best color representation
That's the LG, which ended up winning the competition.

I'd love to know how much better long throw is compared to UST? Great videos though

The issue is, does the LG come with smart tv like the Samsung? That’s the game changer there
The Hisense px1 pro does support Dolby Vision btw
so does Awol and also HDR 10+
I helped a friend setup a Paris Rhône ust with 100” screen. It looked awesome. Curious to see the other brands vs known brands.
We have tested that one. How is it?

no Formovie?
Yup. Robert (the host) said he was trying to get one for the competition but the company was not able to send him one in time.
thank you for this, it's invaluable
Glad you enjoyed the video.
What model alr screen in this test? ??

AWOL!!!
Yes!
Samsung LSP9T uses the .66
That’s correct.
Thanks for the correction. I will update the linked article to reflect that.
Formovie theater would destroy all these
Maybe, but it wasn’t part of the comparison.
This isn't an apples to apples comparison. I mean, the Hisense is half the price as the LG and Samsung. I guess it all depends if money is no object.
Price was not a factor in this shootout, which was based on "mostly uncalibrated" picture quality. We would agree, Hisense is a great value!

Certainly would be game over for anyone that notices it. Most people probably wouldn't.
3/5 in my family bothered by LG’s obvious rainbow effect 😢
The brand that invented this short-throw laser technology was HISENSE, it is the best by far over the others
We’re not sure if Hisense was the inventor of UST technology. Sony first demonstrated it at CES in 2014, but never released a product.
The HISENSE model 100L9G projector must have been in that contest, it is the best in the world in every way
No! 😂😂😂
