  • We have all been there. You changed a CV wrong or adjusted the wrong CV, and now your decoder is acting odd and you don't know how to fix it. Well, don't worry. You cannot break a SoundTraxx decoder by changing CVs! We have a safety-net: CV Reset. You can reset all or groups of CVs back to their factory default settings.
Helpful tip: You can use a CV reset to test lighting. With a full or partial CV reset all of the lights on your model will flash 16 times as a confirmation of the reset. If you are having trouble with a light, this can help you determine if it is a wiring or a CV set up error. If the light does not flash, it is a wiring problem. If it does flash, you need to looking to the CV settings of that output.
Use CV 8 to reset the desired CVs:
CV 8=8 : Full CV reset
    CV 8=9 : Reset CVs 1-128
    CV 8=10 : Reset CVs 129-256
    CV 8=11 : Reset CVs 1.257-1.512
    CV 8=12 : Reset CVs 2.257-2.512
    CV 8=13 : Reset CVs 3.257-3.512

Great tip about doing a partial CV reset using a value of 13 to test all of the lights to see if they flash on and off. Thanks for pointing out another great troubleshooting feature of the Tsunami 2 decoders!

With what CV can we correct a jerky decoder locomotive? Because I have an EMD High Hood Gp49 that is jerky

On this one, I'd recommend starting with CV 211 and CV 215. These will get a good start. But if needed, you can also play with CVs 209 and 210. If a loco is jerky, then I will usually raise the value in CV 210 up and see if it smooths out. Sometimes I have had to reduce it even. So, refer to the User's Guide for details on these and contact us at support@soundtraxx.com if you need further in-depth assistance.
      Thank you!
