Frank, All wheels have been balanced too. You can tell the vibration is in the drive train. For comparison I checked the front yoke and it has no slop at all. The rear yoke has slop. It's the only thing left to be the culprit.

Well then, you are probably right. Just don't forget to drain the oil before you pull the front driveshaft. Good luck.

    Frank,
I noticed you did not replace the tail shaft needle bearing, why? When you inserted the slip yoke into the tail shaft did you notice any side to side slop at the slip yoke? I have some play in mine. Do you think this would cause a vibration between 45 to 50 mph?

All the bearings felt and looked good to me. No need to replace them. It is possible that a loose bearing could cause a vibration, but in my experience, a vibration at a certain speed is usually a wheel out of balance (like when you loose a wheel weight). So that might be something to check first.

Hi Frank, Great video as always, My 96 x90 5spd man, 4x4 is jumping out of 4x4 high, It bangs hard and knocks the shift lever back into 2 wd!, All I did was take my winter tires off and summer tires on, It goes into 4 high like always, and I back up a few ft to help it,, but when I pull out you get tell something is binding, then if I hit 3rd gear it bangs and jumps out of gear!, This just seemed to happen, In December I drove it in big snow 20 miles with no issues until now!, Any ideas?

Sorry Mike, I have no clue what the exact problem is, but I feel certain that it is not related to tires. I think it's time for a big troubleshooting and repair project. I think that once you have it open on the bench then you will find the problem.

    Frank,
I have a 1994 Sidekick 4x4. If you grab the output shaft on the t-case and rotate back and fourth how much backlash is acceptable? my t-case has noisy backlash. you can really hear it load when moving the truck forward and then go into reverse.
Where can the issue be in the t-case?

I don't know, maybe a broken gear tooth? Mine doesn't seem to have noticeable backlash at all. I think you will need to take it out and open it to see what's up.

Yes... this will be the third time of pulling out the transmission. I modified a Harbor freight transmission jack for this task. The transmission is positioned and bolted to the jack. Also I didn't disassemble the exhaust to make room. Still removing the starter is the biggest pain in the ass.

I have a 1994 Geo tracker auto tranny, I am trying to figure out what kind of T case oil to put in it. I have heard gl4 but what weight is it ?

Transfer case takes gear oil, same as differentials. I put all new seals on my transfer case and filled it with Amsoil 75-90W Severe Gear. I did not replace the seals on the differentials so I used NAPA 80-85W-90 Premium Gear Oil. That would also work well in the transfer case. The manual recommends "hypoid" gear oil.

    Frank.
What paint do you use? Special or regular?

It is just spray paint that I buy from walmart.

Great work Frank! Can’t believe I missed these. If my 4WD light remains on when not in 4WD. Is it likely that top sensor is no good?? Cheers from NZ🤙🤙🤙

My first guess is that the switch is stuck or there is a short in the wire somewhere.
