Dalilah Muhammad - what an incredible lady. Forget her physical abilities folks. She's just a great spirit. You can tell the energy of a person, but their gravitational pull and kinetic magnetism. Win lose or draw, Dalilah seems to be 24-karat the real deal.

I was discussing this issue with another commenter. I searched high and low for Dalilah's Rio race and finally found one video from a French broadcast. I watched those games, yet, I don't remember that race. All I know is, the announcers focused on Sydney even back then. I certainly don't begrudge the attention on Sydney, but don't understand why it needed to be at Dalilah's expense. Such a sad commentary.

She walked ahead of me as we left the track and I remember thinking, this girl is so consistent, not the best (then) but consistently in the mix. These days, she's able to be in complete control of everything. Fuk some insecure bums. And if she's not personally in control, we have entirely too much clout and renown to let anyone control or even influence anything about US. No one to look at but ourselves for accepting this bs. The full reality is we've had the ability to control how we're portrayed. and more importantly, how we See ourselves, since 1900. But Victim Addicts ain't ready for that....

I never noticed... Every famous athlete I can remember (besides FloJo who had a short carreer anyway) was dark-skinned. Evelyn Ashford, Gail Devers, Inger Miller,Gwen Torrence, Carmelita Jeter, Tori Bowie, Sanya Richards, Tiana Bartoletta in long jump etc. even the younger ones. Sha'carri Richardson has a lot of exposure. Let alone the Jamaicans. Track and field has actually been dominated by dark skinned athletes since forever.

@charlie ward And please feel free to let me know what percentage of Black Americans specialize in distance running? 🤔
      Kenyan runners have sponsors right?...
I don't find it honest to point out to colorism in every situation, especially not in a discipline where Black-Black people are the most represented. Besides Dafne Schippers, who is not even famous in the States, which white person had it easier to become a sprinter among black athletes?
I mean it is one of the rare fields where Black people are the ones brought to light. And people are still complaining. Crazy.
As far as I know Allyson Felix is the most decorated track and field athlete and she is at the end of her career. She deserves a little bit of recogniton. Are we really gonna say that it's because her skin tone is lighter. Let's be fair sometimes.

They did a similar thing with Evelyn Ashford and Flo Jo (who couldn’t hold a candle to Evelyn without doping). I love all of my sisters. I pray that you and Sydney can be above the media and proactively support each other. I think it shameful that the media never mentions that both of you ran under the world record at the olympics. Take a look at the end of the last episode. All of his results are there. Boogie’s record speaks for itself.

So..Dalilah is saying that somehow it's more difficult for American black athletes to reach the top in track & field??...Is this a joke??? There are hardly any white athletes in the sprint events....What is she talking about??!!...LOL

She is talking about recognition, endorsements and media coverage. Case in Point, Serena vs Sharapova in Tennis. Even though the dark skin athletes are at the top, they don't get the same amount of recognition and endorsements as their white/light skin mediocre competitors.

It's more difficult to reach the top of any profession as a person of color... so track and field is no different. That said, walking a mile in Dalilah's shoes is the only way for you to know her journey and what she has been through.

    Wow small world!
I knew Dalilah was from New York but I didn’t know she was from Rochdale Village in Queens!
    I’m a Queens girl too!
Back in the day I used to have friends and family that lived in Rochdale Village.

So cool! This is what we love about telling these stories… seems we’re all a few degrees away from an Olympian and we just don’t know it.

Dalilah just glides around that track. Really cool to watch. And let’s not overlook Gianna. She made the finals and just a few weeks prior her knee was swollen like a grapefruit
