Syston in Leicestershire was originally built as a two platform station .the platforms being on the main lines .the platform now is built over the alignment of the up slow.
I live in Dunbar not far from the station There's a Cross Country train comes down empty from Craigentinny depot about 6:50am and forms 7am service to Glasgow Central. It heads out North from Platform 1 like the Scotrail services 1 because the no points to send it to Platform 2 and lot of freight and maintenance trains through the early hours.
There's been an ongoing campaign For the last 10 years to reopen 2 stations between Edinburgh and Berwick Upon Tweed. Dunbar is in between East Linton and Reston. That were closed due to the beaching cuts. The campaign on these indicate they might actually happen. If they do the scotrail services might be extended down to Berwick. It was also one of the I reason they invested Dunbars northbound platform.
