Cersei blows up the entirety of king's landing with a reprise like this one in the background, Jaime FINALLY seeing her evil side in full as he hears of her plan and rushes to stop the blast from occurring along with the hound, only for the hound's brother to stop them short and initiate the fight they had while Jaime rushes to stop the blast... Boom... the entire city goes up in flames, music stops short, it cuts to Dany staring dumbfounded as the city is obliterated from above... Jon and Arya barely making it out of the city before being blasted, Tyrion seeing this happening as he made his way to "negotiate" with his evil sister from the tower's steps, staring just as dumbfounded as Dany before he's forced to move, the castle starting to crumble as the foundation is toppling... He meets his sister in a spot where they talked often throughout the series, Cersei knocking back wine as the castle crumbled around her, tears streaming as she rubbed at her pregnant belly, Tyrion distraught with anger but care for her as well, before it eventually escalates and Tyrion ends her life as the prophecy foretold, both of them crushed under the rubble of king's landing... the music, slower, picks up again as the remaining portion fell in dramatic slow motion... time flashes and Jon and Dany are both at the throne, two thrones for each of them, and the series continues to close out from there...

She was never protective of her kids ( they are an extension of her at best, as all psychopath and Narcissists kids are) but she was very emotionally detached.
