One thing that's often frustrating is wanting to play a game...but then fumbling through the rulebook! In this video, I propose a template on how to write a GOOD board game rulebook that makes it easy for people to learn, to reference back to after they've learned it, and one that will help them understand the game mechanics as accurately as possible! Join me on a thoughtful discussion talking about the ins and outs of rulebooks, bringing up several great points from others across social media! Let's MAKE THIS CHANGE! Let me know what your thoughts are down in the comments below!
*Please note: I bring up tons of examples just so we can be as succinct and as clear as possible on the issues and topics I bring up so I'm in no way shape or form attacking specific games!

As someone who is working on a Board game project that is currently in testing phases on Tabletopia I relate to this video and I think this is again an additional quality content from Mr Tim Chuon ;)

I'm working on a rule book right now and this has been extremely helpful. I've used every information as a checklist and help to structure the writing.

Thank you for this very valuable and thoroughly detailed video. All of your suggestions are very logical. Now I can see so many issues with the first version of the rule book that I have written for my game! I'm gradually making my way through your various steps and implementing the necessary changes.

If I were a teacher for a class of elementary school students and I were to give them a class assignment to make their own board games, how should I go about this?

The worst rulebook that I took in my hands was for Skytear. It was absolutely impossible to grasp the rules from those pages. Even designers were aware of this, since they issued a new "learning" rulebook. A sort of "learn as you play" rulebook. That was awful as well. On the other hand Fantasy Flight makes very good, clear and detailed rulebooks. They usually come in two books: "Learn to Play" and "Rules Reference Guide"

Hi Tim! Do I need to add any absolutely legal disclaimers to my 1 page game instruction sheet to protect me from any liabilities and also to protect my right to the copyright of my game for my game I designed in The Game Crafter? Thanks!

ah that's a great question! Shoot-i'm no expert on that at all so i'm not sure and don't want to give you an answer i'm not confident in! maybe try the bgg forums-they might help you get a better answer!
