I keep seeing comments about how this game is "the worst GoW game"... So? That's like saying "Hey, you're in the top 50 best things, but you're only number 50." It's still part of the good GoW series, it still feels like a GoW game, and it uses the same engine. It's still fun to shoot things. It may not be AS good as the others, but that doesn't make it bad. There's plenty worse games on the 360.
exactly, this game is awesome, although it's not as good as the others, it improoves the gameplay in some aspects and is still a GoW game with new stuff.
Pros and Cons list: (All in my opinion) Pros + I like the fast pace action + Overrun Mode + The Breechshot Rifle + Controls feel a bit more smooth Cons -No DBNO -Frag Spam -Bad Weapon Balance -Shipped with 4 MAPS!! -A lot of the Original Game modes removed (Warzone/Execution, Guardian, Wingman, etc) -No locust in MP -Armor Skins -Prizebox System -Generic Game modes (Domination, FFA) -No Horde mode
Vic Robbins loved the breechshot, and the Markza rifle was the best it’s ever been, so was the sawn-off. Wish they would bring back the Breechshot and Sawn-Off in the new games.
I was actually able to pre-order Judgment for $39.99. I sold my original copy for about 35 when it was 60 bucks. Then I bought another copy from Gamefly for 10 bucks because I never played through the campaign all the way through. I really enjoy this game. Although it's not GOW3, it's certainly fun.
it deserved a 9.0 , people complain there is no horde mode , but there is over run mode , which is like horde mode . the story is amazing , and its graphically fantastic
I think you could have gave it a 8.0 but I still gotta say it deserves at least a 9.0 ! I have played Gears of war since the first and this one is my favorite by far ! In order ... Judgment Gears3 Gears2 Gears1
This seems like a fair score. I love gears for its competitive multiplayer aspect and I am purely just waiting on a new instalment to bring a bit of the community back
OK everyone I got Xbox one s with gears and it came with all the games to download. I've owned all gears but judgement. should I download it and play the story since it's free?
It does have a story but its mainly just through cutscenes really. Gears 3's really good but 2 is probably my favourite. But thats my opinion so you may enjoy Judgement. It's a solid 3rd person shooter but the story doesn't go as deep as i wanted.
this is why IGN should pick more suited people to review certain games. dont put the xbox fanboy that loves gears of war to review a gears of war game, they gave it a 9.2. while i instantly saw others give it 7 and 8.5 and everything inbetween. Very good review Gamespot!
I love the Gears Of War series but I don't think I'll be picking this up. I'm a pure SP campaign kinda guy and 7 hours isn't going to cut it, plus (and I'm going to trust this review) it's said that the campaign is somewhat disjointed without an interesting storyline. The plot for Gears was never compelling to begin with, so this might have to wait until it drops in price for me.
agreed, but at least the Gods of War community is enjoying that multi/coop mode. Not saying its a "huge accomplishment" but they are enjoying it, thats a good thing. I remember the days on PS2 when the mp was there for the fans and not for the commercial demand.
Very fun game; it's not going to set any records or anything, but it's definitely a game to buy if you just want to have fun in. And after Bioshock there doesn't seem to be many games coming out for Xbox until August, so Gears is my multiplayer game until Battlefield 4.
All the other games had so much praise and now that Cliffy B and Rod Furgison or however you spell his name left epic and people can fly pretty much took over this is the kind of gears we get. They were just trying to speed up multiplayer and make the campaign more replayable and succeeded. But there was waaaayyy too much change to the multiplayer.
What people need to realize about gamers is that the majority of players look for innovative, new ways to play. As much of a Gears fan as I am, Gamespot was entirely justified in their review, as it was honest and fair. As much as was added to Judgment, it still lacks a fair bit of innovative gameplay mechanics/techniques to push the series forward, it instead put the series at somewhat of a halt. Anything higher than an 8 for this installment (as it is opinion afterall) wouldn't make much sense
I played the first long ass mission and I will say that its not as good as the last three but its not bad either. This game tried something new and when that happens people criticize it for not feeling original. When they keep it the same they criticize it for not being different. The game is good and wordy of a play thru. Its not bad like most people claim its just feels a bit different.
Fanboys are just 12 year olds who rely on their parents to buy their console for them. Whatever their parents get them is to be their console of fanboy choice.
For all of you that think this game is shit, just think about this for a sec. Gears of war 4 is going to be on xbox one, in about 2 years give or take. Judgment is there attempt at taking a new direction with multiplayer with the class skins. I agree that there should of been more content with this but they're going in a direction that speeds up multiplayer (taking out DBNO and adding FFA). This game makes it so it's harder to lose a kill cause you downed someone behind a wall and it takes out trolling the last guy on the team for like 5 fucken minutes. I honestly think this game has potential to be more diverse with the characters than the others. Think about how weird it would look to change a locusts color. For all we know they might add character creation on the next one. We don't know. They're probably trying new things to try to improve the Gears of War series, I mean they've done practically everything else they could do in Gears of War 3. I'm still playing this game and I almost have all the achievements now just cause I enjoy the gameplay. I really like this game and I like where they might be going with this. Thanks to you guys who read and accept my opinion.
I agree that they tried to do something different with the game as the original trilogy did it all and to produce another Gears game with more of the same would provoked criticism anyway. However, some unique features were replaced with generic ones like cog vs locust was replaced with human vs human. The revised control scheme led to less weapons to carry which is a step backwards in my view. The soldier classes in multiplayer, again, led to less weapons available which is another step backwards. They should have kept the 4 slot scheme, made all weapons available for all soldier classes, and added exclusive bonuses, features, and unique equipment to each class. Coming from Gears 3, I felt restricted at times with the new changes. Also, the new game modes should have coexisted with the old ones. On a plus note, I did enjoy the campaign as always with the Gears series.
As much as I love Gears of War, I believe entirely that the reviews between 7.5 and 8.5 are fitting. Granted, I like Judgment, it's a solid, GOOD game. However, in all honesty, it doesn't compare to the previous entries in the series. There were far too many changes, both to campaign and multiplayer, where some I liked and others I did not. People Who Can Fly certainly had their hands on this Gears entry. In my opinion, it's a decent entry that, as a stand-alone game, is worth a shot.
Just because you disagree with the review doesn't mean they were payed. And why would Microsoft even care what IGN reviewers say? Their videos usually don't get that many views and many people don't trust them. And considering how much money Microsoft makes, I doubt they would care if Gears makes slightly less(most don't pay attention to reviews) money.
the thing I think we can all undoubtly agree on is that judgments greatest fault is its lack of content. 4 maps. 11 characters for multiplayer. armor skins look cool but nearly 80% of them you have to buy, thats roughly the same for the weapons skins.( not that im shocked gears 3 had lots of skins you had to buy) . where the hell is dizzy, what about the carmines? what about jace, the characters from raams shadow. if your going to remove locust. you better as hell make of for it.
Survival is good as an additional game but it is no Horde. I can't believe they got rid of horde. Free for all and Domination are a nice addition. But again, no horde. WTH man
last i heard they are doing something similar to what gears of war 1 did with discovery bring raven down and old bones map except they are working with maxim magazine to try and get execusion back into the play lists I hope it pulls through i dig the new style but i miss a good old fashion beat down ya know?
i think this review is more accurate than IGNs.. the campaign is really nothing special. The eerie feeling of gears one and two made them stand out while gears 3 had tons of new content and epic battles. Gears Judgment makes me feel like they didn't put anytime into the campaign. I think they wanted to squeeze one more in before the next console and this is the result.I have high hopes that the next gears on the next console will bring in something special
I always wait for gamespot reviews! The only reviewers who weren't afraid of the rabid blind fanboys with their reviews.. They were the only reviewers who gave the last zelda game a real score and copped endless hate for it.. I cant stand the typical internet warrior gamer who screams for a perfect 10 before they play a game.
Still in shock that ign a leading company in game reviews and news could give such a false review, money talks I suppose. Anywho great review mentioned everything I wanted to hear instead of trying to sell me a product .
Huh, I know It seems like a bit of a cash cow this game, but I can't get enough of the demo at the moment. I'm really enjoying it. Whether I like the full game as much is another thing though.
I didn't mind judgment, but when I heard about it I was expecting something like RAAM's Shadow but a full game that felt like gears and also brought back some nostalgic things from gears 1 like the berserker battle in raam's shadow not the one in judgment which is just basically just scorch it and keep going. I have to say I was a little disappointed with judgments campain
will have to wait til the next console comes out to see game franchaises reinvigorated. if a game is the third in a franchaise usually you've already played it, get it
Judgement had a short story line so it was easy to beat the game plus the new multiplayer is kinda weird, getting used to only using a gun without the combination with your shotgun and also getting killed immedietly once you see your skull
Since I heard they took a lot of modes from the other gears like horde mode all I gotta say is oh ....Epic...why?!!!!!!!You BASTORDS! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!!? Oh well I love Gears of war and I know Ima love this one so I feel like it deserve a 7.5-8 .
the worst part about this game is no symetrial maps and the main campaign has no flow- load screen, fight zone, load screen, fight zone there needed to be smoother transitions between fights like the aftermath campaign had
Honestly, the campaign ended too soon and on a weird note. All the other Gears had a well thought out and fantastic ending. Judgement... sort of just... ended. SPOILER After defeating Kahn, the game writers were probably baffled at what to throw in next. So there was some witty dialogue and a bonding moment. After that, black screen and a loading screen shortly after. I mean, they cameo'd Marcus under "Omega 1", but I would have liked to have seen Baird, Cole and Marcus exchange dialogue.. :\
The only thing they're behind on is graphics. They've made Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Mario 3D land, luigi's mansion, Kirby's return to dream land, Kingdom hearts 3D, and much more. And what games that they re-sold are "shit"?
ill admit the campaign is lacking but still good for what it is. Multiplayer pretty solid im so fine so far with the changes. I would personally give it an 8.
When the internet learns the difference between a linear and a logarithmic scale for ratings, then maybe people will stop complaining about a 7 or an 8. Or they'll just complain about it anyways :(
IGN gave Uncharted 3 a Ten because it deserved it. Halo 4 got a 9.8?! How the F*CK. Halo 3 was great but when playing 4 I found it frustrating. The ending was wack also. IGN just gives weird reviews a lot of times. I have both UC3 and Halo 4 and UC3 deserves a 10.
Even if you think Halo 4 is bad, it is not a cash in. I'm going to list one reason:graphics. Graphics alone don't make a game good or save it from being terrible, but when it's a as great as Halo 4's than it can't be a cash in. If they were doing it just to make money why would they spend so much money and time on the graphics? Every "cash in" I've seen has either decent or terrible graphics, like nearly all movie licensed games.
I keep seeing comments about how this game is "the worst GoW game"...
So? That's like saying "Hey, you're in the top 50 best things, but you're only number 50." It's still part of the good GoW series, it still feels like a GoW game, and it uses the same engine. exactly, this game is awesome, although it's not as good as the others, it improoves the gameplay in some aspects and is still a GoW game with new stuff.
Meh, a 7.5 is pretty accurate, in my opinion. It's not as great as some outlets say it is, but not as horrible as a lot of fans say it is.
I would give it an 8
Pros and Cons list: (All in my opinion)
Pros
+ I like the fast pace action
+ Overrun Mode
+ The Breechshot Rifle
+ Controls feel a bit more smooth
Cons
-No DBNO
-Frag Spam
-Bad Weapon Balance
-Shipped with 4 MAPS!!
-A lot of the Original Game modes removed (Warzone/Execution, Guardian, Wingman, etc)
-No locust in MP
-Armor Skins
-Prizebox System
-Generic Game modes (Domination, FFA)
-No Horde mode
Vic Robbins loved the breechshot, and the Markza rifle was the best it’s ever been, so was the sawn-off.
Wish they would bring back the Breechshot and Sawn-Off in the new games.

Damn right I was disappointed with this game compared to the previous three. Epic also made the mistake of teaming up with another studio.
This game was good, most of the reviewers who reviewed this at the time were stuck on fatigue.
I was more interested with the story mode than anything else for this gears.
The beginning of Cole's testimony is, by far, my favorite moment in the gears series!
Gears of Peace: Reconstruction
a Gears version of Sim City (with no always online DRM of course)
to me and i know im gonna get bombed with hate for this gears of war 2 was my fav and to me the best
probly the worst Gears game out there but its still pretty good fun...for $5 this game is worth it
Aftermath is amazing in this. It's better than the whole game. Traditional gears
I think you could have gave it a 8.0 but I still gotta say it deserves at least a 9.0 ! I have played Gears of war since the first and this one is my favorite by far ! In order ...
Judgment
Gears3
Gears2
Gears1
This seems like a fair score. I love gears for its competitive multiplayer aspect and I am purely just waiting on a new instalment to bring a bit of the community back
great review agreed on most of the points
OK everyone I got Xbox one s with gears and it came with all the games to download. I've owned all gears but judgement. should I download it and play the story since it's free?
em1nvws ig Yeah ive got the same, well its free so if you're bored u can play it but its basically just a horde mode.
A.J Wickerman how is judgements story though? enjoyable? I'm actually really liking gears 4 and loved gears 3
It does have a story but its mainly just through cutscenes really. Gears 3's really good but 2 is probably my favourite.
But thats my opinion so you may enjoy Judgement. It's a solid 3rd person shooter but the story doesn't go as deep as i wanted.
Yes. Story mode is actually pretty good.
this is why IGN should pick more suited people to review certain games. dont put the xbox fanboy that loves gears of war to review a gears of war game, they gave it a 9.2. while i instantly saw others give it 7 and 8.5 and everything inbetween.
Very good review Gamespot!
glad to see a REAL review of the game
Is this game any fun to play single-player, without co-op?? Because I own an XBOX 360, and looks great!
Yes it is!
I'm excited to play this, regardless of its small campaign. I have fun playing GOW, since the first one. So once I beat Tomb Raider, on to this one.
What should i buy Judgment or raams shadow?
Judgment was the best so far!
I kind of agree with the score. Gears hasn't changed in a noticeable manner since the first game.
I love the Gears Of War series but I don't think I'll be picking this up. I'm a pure SP campaign kinda guy and 7 hours isn't going to cut it, plus (and I'm going to trust this review) it's said that the campaign is somewhat disjointed without an interesting storyline. you do realize on metacritic, it received 80% from critics and 50% (around that area) from user reviews stating "its overused".
I think it's just people were expecting higher. But I still think it's a good game :P
All the other games had so much praise and now that Cliffy B and Rod Furgison or however you spell his name left epic and people can fly pretty much took over this is the kind of gears we get. More maps too would be nice.
Hey, I work at IGN and this is a good comment. 9.5/10
This game seems pretty good to me I liked it alot...
I think part 2 is more touching for a storyline.even though, there both still the best
I played the first long ass mission and I will say that its not as good as the last three but its not bad either. God of War Ascension: IGN 7.8/10 Gamespot 8/10
Gears of War Judgment: IGN 9.2/10 Gamespot 7.5/10
Lets give them both a 8 and call it a day
I've never took notice to what gamespot say if your a gear head this Is the game for you
Best review of judgement I've heard
Fanboys are just 12 year olds who rely on their parents to buy their console for them. Whatever their parents get them is to be their console of fanboy choice.

for the record, KH3D is by Square Enix. but i agree with you on everything else.
And let me tell you, It's pretty good.
FEAR was a PC exclusive for a good few years untill they ported it over to the 360.
people need to realize there are good games, great games, and super duper awsome games...and this particular game belongs in the good games category.

This was a fair and a good review, great work
" -So you are going to have to spend some time in multiplayer to get your moneys worth" nuff said.
His review sounded like the game deserved a higher score....but it was still fair
Survival is good as an additional game but it is no Horde. I can't believe they got rid of horde. Free for all and Domination are a nice addition. But again, no horde. WTH man
so is there dbno in the multiplayer?
Judgement disappointed me more with the multiplayer changes but gamespot nailed the issue with the campaign
last i heard they are doing something similar to what gears of war 1 did with discovery bring raven down and old bones map except they are working with maxim magazine to try and get execusion back into the play lists I hope it pulls through i dig the new style but i miss a good old fashion beat down ya know?
more accurate than the IGN review, the main campaign worse than the other, but I think it's still giving too much credit
I love how gamespot rates games. Unlike IGN, this site only gives high scores to great innovative games.
This game is basically ODST, then the next one will be a gears version of reach. And then it will be Gears 4
And when does Gears of ''wars'' come in? ;)
You were wrong...Im from the future....
in gears 3 that option was called arcade mode
A decent and fair review, not this paid propaganda review that IGN put together with Microsoft. :)
i think this review is more accurate than IGNs.. the campaign is really nothing special. Nice review
I might get hate but i kinda like the game. They tried something new. It a prequel anyway so one cares anyway this was an experiment
Bring Gears of War to the Gamecube
I always wait for gamespot reviews! The only reviewers who weren't afraid of the rabid blind fanboys with their reviews.. They were the only reviewers who gave the last zelda game a real score and copped endless hate for it.. I cant stand the typical internet warrior gamer who screams for a perfect 10 before they play a game.
I do thoroughly enjoy this game, but it does feel "off" from the others. It doesn't feel lacking, but it's not whole. If that makes sense.
This should have been a massive DLC for Gears of War 3 instead of another game.
Still in shock that ign a leading company in game reviews and news could give such a false review, money talks I suppose. Anywho great review mentioned everything I wanted to hear instead of trying to sell me a product .
does it matter what the number is? as long as YOU have fun playing the game, who cares what others think
Huh, I know It seems like a bit of a cash cow this game, but I can't get enough of the demo at the moment. I'm really enjoying it. Whether I like the full game as much is another thing though.

i really dont think you can call nintendos past games "old shit"
respect where its due
I am hoping they release a traditional horde mode, cause I don't like the survival mode.
I feel GOW Judgment is meant to be more of a competitive game than a story.
The only thing they're behind on is graphics. They've made Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Mario 3D land, luigi's mansion, Kirby's return to dream land, Kingdom hearts 3D, and much more.
And what games that they re-sold are "shit"?
i want horde mode too...it was the best part of gears of war.
well i like gears of war judgment and i don't mind that their isn't a lot of changes
It's not milked as much as assassin's creed and call of duty
i'm with you on this, love this game way more then 3, i felt the campan was holding you're hand
ill admit the campaign is lacking but still good for what it is. Multiplayer pretty solid im so fine so far with the changes. I would personally give it an 8.
Free map pacl with 2 maps and 2 modes on April 2nd.
Ps3 exclusives - God of war , resistance , Uncharted .... to name a few...
When the internet learns the difference between a linear and a logarithmic scale for ratings, then maybe people will stop complaining about a 7 or an 8. Or they'll just complain about it anyways :(
Hmm I'm surprised I was expecting a higher rating for this.
Im a big gears fan and just played the demo, some nice additions but just gears aint been as much fun since gears 2. Should have finished at 3
Its mostly your opinion if you like the game then you like the game, if you don't you don't this review is just opinion so it really doesn't matter
Thanks for correcting me.
It can make sense...Think about it.
Let the console fight BEGIN!
completely valid and accurate statement.
I agree, although I probably had more fun in GoW2 online
3:13 that locust twitch...
Every "cash in" I've seen has either decent or terrible graphics, like nearly all movie licensed games.
they both is utterly Epics $hits !!! Gow 1 and 2 is Rocks!!!
