Trip Forman talks with Devon Howard from Channel Islands about the CI Mid Twin. Get your CI Mid Twin here today: www.realwaters... #midlength #devonhoward #CIMIDTwin
best surfboard review I have seen in a long time. there's a lot of effort, knowledge, research and testing behind shaping and building new boards. I currently ride an 8' c-bucket, which I love. Next board for good days will soon be this mid twin. Devon, your influence in surfing has been huge in these last years, even here in Europe most people are starting to get the beauty and performance of flow, wave positioning, rail surfing and trimming. Been your fan since Singlefin:Yellow and OCD. Keep up the good work! Mahalo
At 65 I have ridden many boards and interested in design since the mid 70’s. I think all that Devon communicates is excellent information & like he, I don’t like dogma but certainly clean smooth surfing is nice to watch..he personifies this, for sure. Love twins, currently on an MR with the tiny third fin. Magic.
Actually I like more as a step up the original CI MiD in 6’6 with the keels in the stabilizers when the waves are big. It’s more knify and more precise that the my CI MiD Twin 6’3 and it really comes alive from the very beginning of the drop in. This one would be my preference when is not that big cause it’s more skaty and funny, but it’s less precise when it’s big. In any case, great boards both!! 😊🙏🏻
Though I agree with most of this I might add that your surfing level dictates if you can “shortboard” or do shortboard turns on these. But with that said, your not long boarding it either, if anything your surfing more like a longer shortboard when it comes to turns… it’s all about timing, but these can go straight up.
First and foremost, Devon says his take when discussing that is his opinion and isn't looking to set boundaries for other surfers so if that is what you enjoy then that is all that matters. To what he says about surfing the CI Mid Twin, he isn't saying you can't ride it like a shortboard, just that when he sees it being used that way he can see the extra effort it takes from the surfer since the board is not designed that way. His line "keep the CI logo in the water" is a reminder to use the rails and the shape of the board to help turn, which you can see in he and Mikey's flowing style.
I have one. I remember talking to Devon online around the time I bought it. I'm in San Diego. Mine's a white 6'11"... not as sexy as that blue tho. Haha.
It can be custom ordered that way but the demand to date has been for PU/PE. We offer in stringer epoxy, Spine-Tek or ECT contstruction as a custom through Real Water crew. thanks
I think I may have mis-spoke. I did like 5 board reviews that morning with Trip. What I mean to say is I like the feeling of the keels, especially big ones like AMK, etc. Tried them in a traditional twin placement and felt too stiff, had drive but the turning arc was too wide and cumbersome. Pushed them up a bit more and bingo. Had lots of drive still from big base of that AMK fin but moving up some further than what an MR style would be placed out was the golden ticket, had more spark, freedom and tighter turning radius. MR style like our AMT template are too slide for me, but that's a personal thing. Masatoshi Ohno from Japan however runs that AMT template and loves it. We put the placement to be a nice balance , really focused on BMT template but split difference so would work well for AMK too or other templates avail there. Hope that makes sense? - Devon
Devin Howard's mid designs have given alot of surfers a new lease on their surfing lives. Much Appreciated.
probably one of the best reviews on a surfboard to date. Well done dudes.
This was an excellent video, super informative. These videos with Devon about the Mid, Big Happy, and M23 have been super helpful
Devon has such an incredible depth and breadth of industry and shaping knowledge, we have enjoyed these as well

Great description of the board and what to expect.

Riding a variety of boards is the way to go.Its like cross training.

@ I love mine… I try and surf it like Devon does, but I’m at beach breaks mostly and let’s just say it likes to hit sections full speed😁

7:35 'wank the board' lol
Why not have an epoxy version?

@ awesome, thanks.
Moved the fins up for drive? No you move them back for drive and up to loosen it up
