Making an EDC kit from a Victorinox SOS kit

  • Converting this Victorinox SOS kit into an EDC kit was an interesting challenge. I wanted a good tool, fire source, flashlight, and some other basics. But it was difficult finding what I wanted that would fit into the pouch. What do you think about my choices?

    Thank you! Because of this video, I saw that the Swiss Champ is on sale. My friend was just telling me he wants a custom SAK after I showed him mine and I wanted a new project to work on, so the timing couldn't be better. This also gave me some neat ideas for an EDC toolkit I'm putting together. Cheers!

    Nice video!😊 these SOS kits are a fine idea...sad they are not being made anymore & are very difficult to find....it was always said they needed to be bolstered so as to be more useful & up - to - date...neat & lucky you have that vintage Champ...I have an Explorer of that same vintage which I still use...in some ways, they are more beautiful than the newer ones...example : the "fluted" corkscrew...a nice look...Is this kit yours or are you doing the refurbishment & the build for a client? Your build, btw, is as beautiful as it is useful...The next size up in this series is a double pouch, one for the Champ & the other for the survival gear...I believe there is a third which is a green pouch...One of these featured a Mag-lite Solitaire...I like your setup, I would have also included scissors from the Swisscard & kept the sharpening stone, although your space already seems a bit tight....a nice kit & a good video, Thanks!😊

    Awesome setup. I love the custom SAK you chose. Was trying to figure out where I'd gain space to add a book of matches, and I figured if I lost the pain killers (I have to have a small container of meds with me already) I could add matches in that space. Very interesting edc idea. I carry a pouch in my pocket daily with a lot of similar bases covered, and this pouch shown could make an awesome replacement for it to put on belt and free up pocket space. Thanks!

    Awesome kit, good selection on items to modernize it. Since you removed the sharpening stone, you may be able to add a Diamond File (I got he idea from one of Felix Immler’s videos); just to give you the ability to sharpen your knife in the field in case of an emergency. I haven’t figured out how to incorporate it into one of my SAKs, but would fit great in the SOS kit. Excellent job on the knife mod, everything you could need, but nothing more… and looks super slick!

    Happy Sunday Maestro FtS. Thank you for the new & interesting video. Your modified Swiss Champ looks great & I like your choices of modernized items to carry in the SOS pouch. I neither own a 8 layer 91mm Swiss Champ or the SOS pouch & kit, the largest SAK's that I own in the 91mm range are the 6 layer Handyman and 4 of the 5 layer 91mm models the Cybertool M, the Victorinox (Marlboro Unlimited) Troubleshooter (new & still unused in its original box) the Ranger & the Huntsman Lite . The later two I use in my EDC rotation & the Handyman and the Cybertool M I use in my home tool kit along with a Deluxe Tinker & a Wenger Tradesman. The Swiss Champ may be Victorinox's 'Flagship' tool but I find it a cumbersome behemoth with too many tools packed closely together making it difficult to hold and use & has the redundant fishscaler & the fine screwdriver & chisel on the backsprings that are IMO basiclly unusable. ATB Steve in Tel Aviv.

    • @FittoSurvive
      @FittoSurvive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Steve! Glad that you enjoyed the video! I agree, there is a certain limit of layers that will be handy but convenient at the same time. If you plan on pocketing a SAK, it really needs to be under the 5 to 6 layer range. Anything else needs a pouch or had to be carried separately.

    Outstanding. I don't see any need for the lock picks. I would add a sewing kit and a couple of dental floss picks. I carry a Victorinox Explorer Plus along with a few saw blades that can be attached using a trick shown by the Victorinox guru, Felix Immler. I'll probably look for a cheaper pouch. Also would add a few waterproof matches. Much cheaper than the firefly ferro rod and tinder. Love the soap sheets and towelette. Had no idea those existed.

    I have the SOS kit with my SwissChamp. Main thing that comes to mind for me is a more dependable "sure fire" tinder, there isn't really a lot of fire capability there that might not just break on you if not careful, and remember ferrocerium corrodes. Might also go for a credit card sized plastic magnifying lens, small, weighs zilch, sunlight saves matches.You can sew with the Kevlar thread but you'll still need needles, one of which would be a sail needle. While I'm not much for the whole Altoids tin concept, in this case yes, because you can create char cloth in them as well as store accessories. I use the Exotac TitanLight, and it doesn't evaporate. Of course Maratac Peanuts are available but they don't hold near the amount of fluid . Wrap some Gorilla tape around it and you're good for a little more tinder

      TBH I LOVE this knife but I really need a larger case/sheath something that is still small but holds at least a 1/2 by 6 inch ferro, some UCO Titanmatches, the mag lens , at least a mini Bic...A bit more comprehensive approach. But nope can't have my SwissChamp. I replaced that gritty overzealous sharpening stone with a small high quality ceramic rod.

    Amazing kit and very well thought out, and of course your Spydernox custom knife is awesome as always! I don't have the patience and skill to make such hybrid custom knives but I love both brands and my recent EDC of choice is a Vic Swisschamp with black scales & black lanyard in my 5th pocket, Spyderco Urban with black handle clipped inside main pocket, and Knipex Cobra XS in a leather slip (actually a case for ipod nano, perfect fit) sitting inside the pocket. Most of the rest of the items are distributed about me inside my wallet or zippered money belt, so it's more stealthy or discreet than a belt pouch. One thing I didn't have were the soap sheets, just ordered a pack on ebay! Cheers from the UK.
