Great find, i was never gaga over the usa-! i've liked the double dare much more. It looked like something you could drive, and I always like the nissan king cab body.i have a couple of double dares
@@jonjacob1962 because they’re supposed to be put together, and played with. What kid would get this for Christmas or birthday and not do anything with it..
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers lol. A kid didn't get this tho. This was an adult who thought they could buy some mass produced toy. Hold on to it for a few years, maybe a decade or 2, then turn around and sell it for some extortionate price to some not so smart person who thinks exactly like this. Someone who thinks a box of plastic parts is somehow worthy of some extortionate price just because it wasn't played with. It's the same thing this guy is doing. He said himself he wasn't putting it together. He hopes that even further into the future. There will be another not so smart person who comes along and sees shiny clean plastic and thinks it's some rare thing.
This is awesome! Brings back so many memories 😂 I was like 11 and always looked at this and the Clodbuster I believe. Couldn't afford it, but I could always dream looking at those old Tower Hobbies catalogs. Those, and those awesome Sears Xmas catalogs/encyclopedias that would get released every year LoL
That’s amazing Ari! I’m so glad this came your way and you share with us! I think it was Christmas of ‘91 my Mom came out and surprised me with this beast. I was floored then and you’re bringing it all back! 😂
Very cool kit and even cool you have al the paperwork with it, even the coupon envelope from Tower back in the day! I don't blame you for not building it, when re-re kits are still available there is no point in taking away from the time capsule it is by building it!
Wow, that is an awesome monster truck kit, and in great condition too! I remember when these first came out, saw them in magazines, and like the Clod Buster a few years before I really, really wanted one, but could never afford it. I do have a Clod Buster now, albeit heavily upgraded, and I love it, so does everyone else at my local off-road track as I run it whenever I get the chance! You've bagged a bargain there, awesome stuff!!!
Wow, congratulations on that incredible find and what a once in a lifetime deal on it too! Also, thank you so much for sharing that time capsule with your viewers. I still remember when the USA-1 first came out. I bought my Clod Buster back in 1987 when Tamiya first released it but I remember when Kyosho came out with the Double Dare as a first response to the then new Tamiya 4x4x4 monster truck. After I read the details about how much smaller the Double Dare was then I was not too concerned but when Kyosho released the USA-1 shortly afterwards, then I started to worry that my truck was no longer the top of the heap. (Believe it or not, there was a big amount of R/C monster truck brand loyalty amongst me and my buddies back then!) After word got out that the USA-1 had a fully independent suspension system, then I knew that it was not really a direct competitor to the Clod Buster and time has shown that to be the case as the Tamiya Clod Buster is still going strong while the original USA-1 has been discontinued for a long time now. Even though I was solidly in the Clod Buster camp, I still strongly considered getting a USA-1. When I really started to modify my Clod Buster into a capable truck that was nothing like the stock Clod, I seriously looked at getting a USA-1 because Sassy Chassis came out with their incredible DXS chassis and suspension kit for it. That kit made the USA-1 into a truck that was more than capable of beating a modified Clod Buster in a race. (Nothing could make the USA-1 compete with a Clod Buster when it came to truck pulling however, not even the DXS chassis and suspension kit.) I never did get a USA-1 and though I absolutely love my Clod Busters and Bull Heads, as shown in the videos on my TH-cam channel, I still have a soft spot in my heart for the original USA-1. There is actually a fully modified one with a full DXS chassis and suspension kit on it up for sale on that online auction site right now but it is way too expensive for me. If it were not for that sky-high price, I would have probably bought it. Oh and as for the monster trucks that competed against my beloved Clod Buster, after the USA-1 then came the Traxxas E-Maxx and on to today's Axial SMT 10 and the Team Losi LMT. It seems that the Clod Buster has always had a truck coming after it! That's OK with me though because there is plenty of room in the R/C monster truck swimming pool. Thanks again for the great video and again - congratulations!
In the 1980's when I started in the RC hobby, I was a dedicated Tamiya fan. My first RC vehicle was a Holiday Buggy and my second was a Boomerang. However, in 1989, I was tempted by the Kyosho Double Dare. It seemed to have a nice specification but it soon became apparent that the performance didn't meet expectations. It was super hard to control due to the twin motors and 4-wheel steering and the stock suspension with friction shocks was a disaster. The plastic mounting brackets flexed badly, the truck bounced around and wheel travel was severely limited. On top of this, the sealed equipment enclosure was so crammed full of wires that the rotary speed controller wouldn't move freely. Despite trying every way to adjust it, it either wouldn't reach top speed or wouldn't return to neutral. This meant removing the enclosure lid (held on by 8 self-tapping screws, some which were very hard to access). I purchased the Option House oil-filled shocks, made plates to reinforce the suspension and also made a bracket to hold the throttle servo (double-sided tape was not secure enough). This resolved a few issues but the experience was enough to put me off the Kyosho brand for decades. I am sure the USA-1 shared many of the same issues. Now, 35 years later, I appreciate the Double Dare a little more, mainly for its rarity. If you are feeling nostalgic, I made a video of my "car crusher" that you can find on my channel, BlackSeaRC.
Omg that is incredible thanks for sharing this. Talk about a trip down memory lane. I purchased all my RC from Tower when I was a kid. That’s awesome with the receipt purchased by Frank from NY. Did you by chance ask the gentleman how he acquired the kit? The nonsense advertisement packet was still in thier lmao I love it.
Damn, that's an amazing deal! I got mine in April of 1999, and was disappointed with the steering setup. Mine didn't come with the poster though. Do you want to sell the USA-1 poster?
i still have most of my usa-1 was my first hobby grade rc was around 8 when me an my uncle built it a ran it 5 min before i broke the main chassis lesson learned with leaving the chassis cover off as i found out it is structural remember it taking 2weeks to get replacement main chassis from kyosho an the hobby shop did not have any parts on hand
I have the rerelease it's tottaly different. It possible in 92 they switched to solid axles and motors in cab area? Weird it's a rerelaease and totally different? I got box manual s excetra. This ones more like a close buster.motors front.and rear. So is the rerelease tottaly different than all the old usa 1 s?
Hi. Unfortunately I do not have either of those 2 or spares. I'd say eBay but... your best bet would be to hit up the Facebook groups dedicated to these RC's. There are multiple Kyosho groups that are vintage based and even specific to the Car Crusher Series that the big brute was part of. Good luck.
It's so annoying when people wanna buy things just to keep as shelf queens or in storage just so they can try to profit off of someone later down the road. It's a plastic, crappy, old rc car. We only think they're valuable because were told to.
i had one but the dang dogbones were a pain having to buy new ones after 3 or 4 runs. And then the chassis broke for the weight of the wheel and tires. I did like it but it cost me more then gettign a Clodbuster in parts
The original U.S.A.-1. I remember just staring at it in the Tower Hobbies catalog as a kid. Awesome
So amazing. Awesome find. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. So dedicated to the hobby.
Thank you for the compliment. Appreciate it.
Build it! Nice find! Love the USA1, my first hobby grade RC and I still have my original from 1992 xmas!
hahah build it.... not this one..I do have another USA-1 thats built and been ran... needs some work though and I plan on getting that done someday...
Wife as back-up! 😆 Great find Ari and it couldn't have gone to a better home ... 👍
Hahah thanks.. My wife is pretty hard core
Nice great deal also. I always bring precious metal when I go for marketplace stuff. LEAD
hahaha I brought the wife as backup.
That's a killer deal. I have 2 of these I haven't run them in a while but still great trucks. Good score Ari.
Sweet! I have an original nitro USA-1, barely used. Shelf queen now.
Nice. I never got into Nitro but I've seen videos of the original USA-1 nitro running on TH-cam. Definitely cool.
Love it when the algo comes through you! Amazing get, Ari.
Thanks

I was actually on the hunt for a double dare and then this came along.
Still amazes me that stuff like this still exists..
Why..? It's an old RC car... Not some ancient civilizations temple or something...

COOL! what a great find! I am just thinking that speed controller those were bad with one motor so I wonder how it worked running two at one time!
