Chopper really put on some girth. It always amazes me how many iterations our trees go through as we develop them. I really like the new angle and branch structure. Thanks, keep growing
Totally different looking tree now Jay. I like it. I have to admit that I tend to forget which trees are wired myself and so I've got a tree wiring book which I leave open next to my PC so that I can review the trees every day for biting marks. 👍👍
Here in Florida I’ve collected about a half a dozen yamadori tiger bark ficus from palm trees . They are everywhere, if you have a bonsai eye. There are also a lot of other species of strangler figs on palm trees that are quite spectacular with roots reaching the ground. Have my eyes on some for spring. Yamadori ficus are one of kind and tend to style themselves.Tiger bark Ficus can be a little pricy especially if you get them in a bonsai pot and they tend to have that cookie cutter look/feel. Well done Jay, I see the taper!
hey jay, i wish you a healthy happy christmas :) for the ficus, it's coming along nicely, the cutting decisions were nice. chopping these "too tall" parts was the best you can do in my opinion. i suggest you to let the middle branch thicken up for a couple months so it becomes more dominant as the leader. i would also use a side branch of it as your third highest side branch pointing to the back for the depth. the new front is perfect for that. but that's your intention anyway i guess? :D will be a great shohin in the future for sure.
Great video Jay and that is a lovely little tree. Like Tony I now have a little Tiger Bark ficus courtesy of Xavier Martinez so I need to start paying attention 😊😊😊
I really enjoyed this video Jay. I don't normally watch videos about indoor bonsai, but Xavier kindly sent me a small rooted tiger bark ficus cutting so I'm suddenly interested in them. I think the decisions you made were spot on, and I do think that in time that back branch will end up getting the chop. Keep warm mate. I've heard it's cold out there!
🌟Thanks Tony! It’s a snow storm here! 🥶❄️☃️ Once you play with a ficus, it’s hard to stop! Vigorous growers, take big cuts and big root pruning with stride. Just a lot of fun. I just suggest you invest in grow lights - it makes the world of difference! Cheers!
That's a huge growth in just nine months.. My indoor upgrades should be better upgraded to gain that :D The new upright position and the big chop looks gooood! Happy holidays, Jay 💚💚💚
I want to cut one of my tiger bark ficuses to stump without any leaves and branches to develop more interesting form. This type of ficus able to grow new brunches from stump?
It's Ficus Friday!!!! Yah!!
🌟Ha ha. I lost track of days since I’m on vacation! Yes - it’s Ficus Friday indeed! 👍🐦💙

🌟Thanks Matt! It’s like Chopper got divorced and he’s reinventing himself before getting back in the dating pool! 🤣😂🐦💙
