    Perfect timing I was looking for a receiver and this one sounds great driving my JBL Model 4311 monitors. Thank you.

    Thanks for your time on this one; that circuit glue is really deadly over a period of time. Another piece saved from recycle!

      Craig, thanks for checking the video out. When I first seen this one on the shelf I knew it was too nice to leave behind.

    I remember those. Quite nice tuner section. Good price/performance ratio too. Seems like the EQ-presets is set like I used to in my younger days - boosting bass & treble ;-)

      Rune, thanks for checking out the video! Yes, the classic “V” pattern EQ setting works well with rock music lol.

    If your friend doesn't want it back, find a pair of Infinity RS6b speakers to combine with it. Then set it up somewhere in the house... Anyway, looks like a nice unit. Compares well to the Sony STR-AV910 from 1989-90, minus the surround channels and 30WPC extra that the Sony has.

      John, thanks for checking out the video, my friend definitely does not want it or any of the others I took back lol.

    Nice repair and maintenance. That brown glue is bad news. As you noted it is corrosive and can also become conductive. I did a Proton D940 repair video that involved brown glue and damaged components and odd behavior of the tuner because of the glue. Check out the Hakko FR-301 desoldering tool if you need that capability. I use it all the time and it is awesome, tips last forever.

      Erik, thanks for checking out the video! The Denon one I had , you could reverse the pump and turn it into a hot air rework tool using a different tip and bypass cartridge, will the Hakko do this? (Just curious)

    • @EriksElectronicsWorkbench
      @EriksElectronicsWorkbench 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@luvradios that's a nice feature yours had but no the Hakko model I listed does not do the hot air rework. Hakko does offer hot air tools however.

    When power up with a Variac a digital circuit may not start up. It may need fast power up to initiate.

    • @luvradios
      @luvradios  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are correct but since there were no blown fuses I was just looking for any abnormal current draw at the moment of turn on, if I had worked on the amp to get around this and bring the amp up slow I would have disconnected the primary of the main transformer from the startup circuit and fed it AC voltage direct bypassing the logic portion.

    Do they use that glue in newer units as well. Like I have an onkyo should I be prepared for this to happen in the future.

    • @luvradios
      @luvradios  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don’t really know as I haven’t seen a piece of “newer” audio equipment lol, I would guess that glue is probably long gone, replaced with something more modern.

    Have same unit with no display. Swapped front panel and screen with known good and same problem. No glue or corrosion on amp board. Any idea where to go from there?

    • @luvradios
      @luvradios  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Assuming the unit will still operate minus the display? Start at that zener diode I changed, make sure you have voltage there, if you swapped the front panel and got the same result then the problem is def on the main board around that area that feeds power to the display driver IC., service manual is on hifiengine.com

    I have one of these I bought in Japan around 1987. The speaker circuit cut out on it once and i had it repaired but it didn't last long. Pulled it out of the garage and found your video hoping you would show me a shortcut. Guess I'm on my own. Lol
