The best piece of advice my Dad gave me was that it is easier to cut back on unnecessary purchases than it is to earn more money. Living a more minimalist lifestyle has given me more work/life balance.
True. There is a point when you can't do more since there is only 24 hours in a day no matter what. Then you have to pick which issue is more important and you can live with. There is an opportunity cost on time just like money since you can't spend money or time more than once.
Something I noticed. I stopped using apps, google calendar and changed them for a notebook and a huge desk calendar and it was like the gears started rotating faster. So cool.
I have been saving $ for decades (without crimping what makes me happy) so that I can retire early without debt. My mother said that I could have saved more if I was so spendy with my hobbies. I said true but I wouldn’t feel right living like a monk without any small imdulgence.
It's called mindfulness: making a conscious effort to create consistent behavior that best allows you to enjoy & appreciate life; being grateful for what you have while on the road to constant growth and personal development. This gives you the avenue through which you're able to put a value on your time and money, prioritizing what matters to you/your life vs what doesn't; therefore, weeding out things that don't serve you a meaningful purpose/at this time -- hence mindfulness.
Because you have nothing but free time when you dnt have kids i wrked more when i had no kids and had way more of a life now that i have kids and wrk less.
Pro tip: Win the lottery jackpot like i did. I have the luxury of treating almost everything like a hobby. I still have a job but its part time and I do it because I love it.
Italians have said to me "Enjoy your shower, vacation, run " It means live in the present with what you experience and nothing else. Only what you experience as a gift.
so my thoughts on this and getting close to the FIRE method only through time is that when you are out of debt/in babysteps 4/5/6. It's also a good idea to cut back on working hours to not 'live like no one else' financially but also 'live like no one else' on a time perspective. So not work 40-50 hours a week or more, but work 25-30 and slowly build your nest egg, but in the meantime spend more time on kids/spouse/hobbies etc. Only problem is....it feels so against nature to actually flip that switch and riskfull thinking haunts me to not do it....
40% chance of rain doesn't mean 60% of sunshine where I live. It means, you're getting 40% of that daily expected rain fall. It might happen all at once or drizzle all day but you're getting 40% of it. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I work 8+/- hours a day when I get home I don't answer my phone that is my time with my wife your problems with trying to reach me will still be there in the morning we can deal with it then.
Been watching Dave since 2013. He saved me financially no doubt. Show has been on a steady decline. Why does he have co show hosts? Who cares about them. I tune into Dave to listen to Dave. Definitely on the slide. Sad.
Dave wasn't in the moment on this video, it went over his head when she was talking about missing the beautiful weather and beach scenery and ocean air because she was so consumed on her phone looking at the bad forecast.
It’s extremely naive to believe that you will be able to “take control” of your time when the war for your attention and labor rages 24-7. Things in your life and around your life will necessarily break. Damage control is our lifelong occupation.
Not true. You just need to cut out some things. Maybe the kids don't need to be in three sports each. Maybe they should be home more. Maybe you can share the errands. There are all sorts of ways to get balance.
um...it's not a "war"...things aren't going to break...and you don't need damage control. If you have clear goals, priorities, and boundaries from the very beginning, then every decision should be quite easy with no "war" or "damage".
Being intentional with your time and money??? Who are these numb nuts?? You cannot be intentional with your time if you are poor and work two jobs or long hours. You cannot be intentional with your money if you have a job that does not allow you to save. Dave and his minions are full of hot air.

Well said.
Making money costs time. Replacing money is the same as wasting time, IMO.
You waste time making money. When you run out of time how are you going to make more money?
minimalism definitely helps with this. being intentional and living a simple life is so fundamental to achieve this.
Exactly, why anyone needs a big house is beyond me
I agree. I am semi-minimalist, and it has definitely made a good difference.
Yeah, I would love to live like that and pass it on to my children. They don't need all of the toys and other material things being passed on to them.

When you start thinking about what your money can earn you change the way you spend. You change the way you think and treat your time.

If possible look for roomates. Half of your income to rent, will tear you apart.
