    Just bought myself a little Dougie and a Sigma lens for my channel. Upgraded from my old Lumix G7. Very happy with my decision and your channel helped me so much. The drawback is it's so sharp I now have to groom myself properly before filming. I'm also planning to buy a second Dougie to rig out for when I shoot outside of the studio and I was just thinking of the best way to upgrade my amazon basics tripod for travel. Mark, you always know what I need. Much love to you.

      I still have my trusty G7 - but that Sony with autofocus and apsc sensor is such a big upgrade. 😀

      I'm still trying to find a way to blame Mark for my buying the Sony 18-105 F4 for my Dougie... But will suggest for non-professional use, it is a nice lens!

    This tripod + Fluid Head, vs the new Video Travel Tripod with fluid head?
    What’s your preference for travel?
    Curious about why pick one over the other if fluid head/ball head can just be added on later.
    They have so many tripods haha all I want is the best all purpose one but it’s hard to pick with their selection.

      I think overall the zero f38 is the best l you can do anything with it - add the ballhead later, just use it as is. it’s so small, light, and compact - so for travel - it’s my fav

    The only thing I wished they would do with the extra 1/4” tripod Center Column is make it unscrew in two parts like the F38 column so you can get those low angle shots. I also wish they sold the Zero Y tripod head separately, but no dice on that one.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

      If you don’t raise the centre column it will be able to hold as long as you use the tripod collar. I did it with a sigma 180-600. But you may want to look a pt a heavier duty tripod if you’re going to be using that a lot in the field.

    For video, attach a Ulanzi Falcam quick release plate to the bottom of the U-190 fluid head and then mount to the F38's ball head. You have full functionality of the Ulanzi system this way instead of the limitations that come with mounting the fluid head directly on the included extra 1/4" column and then on the legs. I'm coming from a Benro Aero2 Travel Angel at 4lbs. Benro tripods have the wonderful leveling cups where you can set the legs on any irregular surface, loosen the leveling cup and viola, you can level the camera without adjusting legs. I knew that I would lose three features mounting the fluid head directly. 1) no leveling cup. 2) no low ground angle as the extra 1/4" column is one long piece that doesn't break down into two pieces like the ball head's permanently attached post. 3) It's now too long to fit into the F 38 bag.
    By mounting the fluid head atop the ball head, it only adds 5oz more than mounting without the ball head. The ball head swivels in all directions so now I have the leveling cup feature. The ball head's post has the break apart feature so now I can use the tripod at it's lowest possible angle. Of course it still will not fit into the F38 bag but this is really the way to go.
    By the way, you won't be happy forgoing the fluid head and mounting a video shooting camera directly on the ball head even if you aren't recording pan/tilt movements. Ball head adjustments are just too gross and not fine enough for video, especially when zoomed in.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - I will be mentioning this exact thing in an upcoming video. Instead of removing the centre column, just attach the quick-release plate to the fluid head. 👍

  • @bobkrist1
    @bobkrist1 ปีที่แล้ว

    A fluid head without a leveler is opening you up to a world of inconvenience on uneven surfaces when you try to get a level horizon. What do you do in those cases, Mark?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is true - this little fluid head unfortunately doesn't have a way to level on it's own. So, the thing to do is attach the f38 plate to the fluid head - that way you can leave on regular adjustable ball-head to the tripod. I'll be sure to mention this in the full review.

    • @bobkrist1
      @bobkrist1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Good idea...that ball head is low profile enough and kind of functions like a leveler anyway!

    With the fluid video head, how do you pan counter-clockwise, without the head unscrewing?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you have to tighten it down ridged and then make sure the screw for panning is loose enough.

    • @kennymiracle
      @kennymiracle หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well as usual I figured it out right after commenting 😂 there’s a tightening screw I didn’t see. So you need to put the head on the little pole BEFORE putting it into the tripod to access it.

    I really like my Ulanzi Zero Y Lightweight Travel Tripod, but I have my doubts about the quality.
    After only 3 months of use, it is no longer possible to lock the ball head completely.
    With the Sony A7 IV and Tamron 50-400 (with tripod foot), the camera can come out of position if I bump into the lens!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that’s a pretty big lens - like I mentioned in the video - for bigger setups I wouldn’t recommend a travel tripod. use the included tool to tight up your screws and see if that helps.

    • @rumattso
      @rumattso ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for reply. Yes, it is a large lens, but far from max load capacity. And a lens I haven't used much on the tripod. The lens I have used most on the tripod is the Sony PZ 16-35, a very light setup. Even with so little weight, the head is not locked well enough.
      It does not help to tighten up screws, the problem is the lever that locks the head does not tighten enough. If you know what I'm saying (not so good in English).
