- A young American girl visits Paris accompanied by her fiancee and her wealthy uncle. There she meets and is romanced by a worldly novelist; what she doesn't know is that he is a blackmailer who is using her to get to her uncle.

I love these old movies. Gets my mind off all the crumby stuff happening in the world! Thankyou.
When this movie was made in 1931 it was the Depression and there was a lot of crumby stuff happening in the world then too.

Good William Powell, Carole Lombard vehicle about deception and blackmail. It's nice that we see the Paramount logo and opening credits at the beginning of this upload unlike another upload of this film, which left them out. Thank you for showing everything from start to finish.

I didn't get the end
The audio quality is good but if they meant the video when they say "good quality", well, that is sarcasm. The video compression is Horrible. Or maybe it came form a VHS tape and I just forgot how bad analog tape looks. But not a bad movie, most anything with William Powell is worth watching.

No doubt about it Carol Lombard is gorgeous but for my money I'll take Wynne Gibson!
I never cared for Carole Lombard. Yes, she was nice-looking, but her acting was wooden and her 'feminine charm' was lacking. In private life, I wouldn't want my son to bring her home 'to meet the family'. Yes, I agree, I would rather have Wynne Gibson.

They both went straight at the end. He had no way to support the rich girl in the manner she was accustomed to, and her family might have dumped her if she married a middle-aged ex-blackmailer. The moll loved him through thick and thin. She was his equal.

Saw it last night. The ending was so unexpected and left us just hanging, which made me think the real ending was chopped off for some reason.

Powell and Lombard were divorced in 1933. It was six years until she married Clark Gable in 1939. In the meantime, she 'dated' just about everyone in Hollywood, including her favorite stud, Gary Cooper, who died of prostate cancer (!) in 1960.

@@hamburgareable, as a lady persisted in informing me recently, the American Civil War was raging at this time. Earlier she had been challenging the use of the term “woke” as the pejorative it is currently. When I suggested that many generally agree that said civil war occurred in the 19th Century she said that then she was right, it was as she said, 19something, maybe 1950. At this point it seemed she might not have sufficient patience and there would be too much to explain. Given that she was in management, a kind of trouble shooter for a well known fast food chain, one wonders if her special knowledge of history led to management challenges.
