Hate when owners dont let employee pies get reviewed. The customers that come in from Dave's review arent going to be eating pies made by the owner.
Not true. The owner does cook them a lot of the time. The discrepancy between the two pies may explain the reason why I say they are inconsistent here 😂

I dont mind the owner baking the pie since he genuinly seemed like a big fan. If you are the owner and dave comes in it would be a dream to have him review your pizza!

Mangia makes great 🍕 I personally prefer it without the char bubbles but they will make you whatever you prefer! Steve has been making pizza for over 40 years, makes all the dough and more often than not makes the pies so I'm sure he just wanted to be judged on his work...I mean how often in your life do you get this chance as a restaurant owner? Nothing against his employees. If he didn't trust them then they wouldn't be working there. The whole staff puts out quality food!!!

Issue with mangia is they are extremely inconsistent. One day their pies will be one of the best around. Another day it’s soupy and tastes funny. That first pie actually looked better to me.
Alot of places like that. The busier they get the more the oven gets opened and so the heat drops is the problem.
That's probably because it looks like the employee makes better pies than the owner! Inconsistency kills business. People aren't going to go to a place where they get a "9" one out of 20 times and a "7.5" the rest. At least, I don't. I'd rather go to a place where I know I'm going to get a solid 8 pie that kinda sorta tastes like a Wooster St. pie.
Never been to "Mangia", so can't comment on them. They both looked good, the first one looked better. I used to go to Olde World the first few years after they opened and they were killing it, definitely consistent high eights. Haven't been there in years, though.
@@jaykay6387 agreed. I’m all about consistency. However, most of the best places aren’t. Luppardis still the best around here imo. Dave must have had a mediocre pie when he went, it happens

Holy shit, I grew up in the house next door back when it was Vick's Pizza, this was my parking lot to ride my bike in, I had no idea he came to my town, still living in North Haven down the street, thanks Dave, representing us well with that 8.2, we have a lot of great pizza joints in North Haven. Way to go Prez. I had bo idea uber Debbie worked there, cool.
might have to give it a try..i remember as a kid when that location was Vics Pizza..there have been like 10 pizza places at that location since those days ..hope this one makes it!

Damn, the North Haven/New Scale fucked me up on this one, I went 7.8 because it looked very good but he didn't seem that crazy about it. I guess the standard of pizza is just that much better when just an okay reaction gets you a big score.

I made comment on yesterday's pizza about another place in North Haven...this is the place. On their google reviews I gave it an 8.3, so I guess I wasn't too far off

Just ate at Modern. That guy is right. It was off tonight. Just tasted like herbs. Not like it was last time I went a couple years ago. Disappointed. The garlic bread sucked too. Tasted like oil and oregano. Waitress didn't care we ate 1 piece of pizza and a bite of the garlic bread....paid $35 not to eat. Also, Apizza in Hollywood Florida sucked really bad. Not sure why Dave rated that high. Sally's still reigns supreme.

The first and second pies don't look at all similar, Dave kept saying they looked exactly the same. Uhh...no. The first pie actually looked better, IMHO. All the charred bubbles on the edge crust...yummo! If that second pie was an 8.2, then the first pie woulda been an 8.4, everybody knows the rules. Hope for healing for Debbie.
