Thanks for doing these meal-by-meal reviews. I'm purchasing MREs for our family's emergency supplies and my 10-year-old is a somewhat picky eater. We know how important it is to keep kiddos feeling content and secure when the unexpected hits. So many thanks for teaching what's in each menu #. I'm now a subscriber!
To "gundog" must now be an official term in the ration lexicon. And deservedly so! BTW, cocoa powder also makes a great icing. Adding coffee powder makes it the "high-test" version.
Gundog has become an integral part of the ration world! I've heard of using cocoa powder to make the icing as well (though have never actually tried it myself), but the dairyshake powder seems like it's practically MADE for this!
The salt is in the water packet because the salt acts as a catalyst (speeds up a chemical reaction) for the reaction between the iron and magnesium in the heating elements. The iron and magnesium will react with each... slowly... when they are both dry powders. Add in some salt and they will react a little faster...when they are both dry powders. Add in some water (into the salt, iron, magnesium dry powder mix) and the reaction occurs rapidly and you have an FRH. By keeping the salt out of the iron-magnesium mix until the last possible moment, the (almost) full chemical potential of the iron/magnesium reaction is saved until needed... my theory... which may be why the FRHs with the separate salt water packet react even when they are older than the FRHs that just need plain water added. The salt being in the reaction explains why throwing some salt into a FRH may make it cook off if it is a little stale/old... you've added more catalyst into the reaction.
They put salt water because they can't ship the regular flamless heaters by air only by land so they use the ones that can only be activated by salt water
acctually if you read the bottom most lines on a real military mre its says that a flameless heater can be on a plane but it has to be sealed in the original mre bag
I usually listen/watch your videos while I'm working and for weeks I was thinking why does he call them 'Famous ration heater?' Only to now learn after glancing up and seeing the heater that it's 'FLAMELESS ration heater' haha
I recently had a late 2013 dop genuine MRE and the original M&Ms didn't look half as good as those ones did. Most likely storage conditions but I'm confused everything else in the ration was still perfect.
if the beverage had sugar it would be quite a bit bigger. I think that's why you don't see more of those drink tubes with sugar commercially. Reduced packaging costs.
I watched a man named Kyle who is a BMT, he and his wife ate a few as a video. I followed that up by watching a series of these. He eats this very often it seems but didn't know as much or seem to be able to create his meal with as much ease or as quickly as you did. I found that quite odd, on a side note, are you ex-military?
If you want to buy mre's, go online. I don't know any specific websites but you can find them for around 5 bucks a pop. If you have a reletive in the police force or military they should have some. Any military surplus store should have some, good luck and good eating!
Why is it all spaghetti and meat sauce now. What happens to spaghetti and meatballs? Not related to this video at all, just something I've notice over the last few years.
Where does one get mres. I have a few close army surplus stores near and i couldnt find it in the one i go to. Do i just need to look in the other stores or is there another place i can get them. I like the official mre the commercial ones just arent right to me after being so accustomed to the militaries.
I would check Amazon. Another website you can try is MREMarketplace.com I believe it's called, the not 100% sure on that website name. Check Steve1989's channel as he gives the link in each of his videos.
I'd check the other stores if they're not too far away. Surplus stores frequently (but not always) have MREs. And some might not have them all the time. It's the kind of thing they might be able to get their hands on all the time. If you can't find them there I've always found eBay to be the best source for genuine MREs. Just be careful that you get what you are expecting. Make sure the seller is reputable (check feedback) and make sure they are selling genuine MREs and that they are relatively fresh.
That's kind of interesting. It's hard to find exact menu listings for TOTMs (I think someone listed a link to them at MREInfo.com somewhere), so they all seem kind of random. But it's strange because I don't believe that Minestrone Soup was ever an entree--only a side dish. If that's correct (and I wouldn't swear to it) it seems strange that they're put a side dish in for the main dish of a TOTM. Then again, Hash Browns with Bacon used to be a side dish and recently became a main, so maybe that happened with Minestrone too? Who knows?
That's awesome! I actually referred to is as possibly meaning "spaghetti", but realized it didn't make sense and edited it out. Wish I had thought of your code translation!
Okay this just pisses me off, I ate a bunch of Apacks back when i was doing "Guest Services" work during football and base ball games. they ALL HAD THE EXACT SAME ITEMS! They all had skittles, they all had corn nuts, they all had apple jam, and they all had oatmeal cookies!
They definitely can be very monotonous with the components. I believe that's a very common complaint about these from people who buy cases, only to find the same thing over and over again in their meals. That's interesting that they gave you these while working football and baseball games. I'd have figured they'd give you hot dogs and burgers or other stuff from the snack bar.
Oh definitely! Part of the reason for the thicker out packing in military MRE's (aside from durability) is keeping out light and some excess heat. Civilian MRE's sadly don't have that in most cases. I've found an awesome alternative is to just pop the fully packaged MRE in the freezer and keep it there until you wanna use it.
@@gschultz9 I just checked again, It's 108G actually. This is the low sodium pack, lacking any drink mix, and only contains crackers, fig bars and skittles. So much for being more of a healthy Civilian MRE.
It looks like a lot of calories and shit, but be realistic. are you actually eating M&ms, an oatmeal cookie, and have a vanilla shake with a lemonaid? Like that is a lot of shit. I don't imagine eating/Drinking all of the sweet stuff together.
Hello, my name is Toby, I am 13 and live in ar, those look very cool to eat and very interesting. It would be gladly appreciated if you could send me one, I would like to try it, take it for consideration. -Toby Pierce
That icing idea is fantastic. Add more powder or water for texture and taste, and you're golden. Kudos to Gundog and you!

I recently started watching your videos and I absolutely love them!! Made me buy myself the beef taco mre!!!
I'm very glad to hear that, thank you! Hope you enjoyed the Beef Taco MRE!

Yooo, Congrats on almost 50k
Icing !! What an awesome idea.. Cool
oh jeeze, i got serious ASMR when you were mixing the shake-frosting
great vid as usual gshultz
Ha! Another advantage of Gundogging it up!
when im eating these at school i say "time to gun dog it uup" and people just look at me like im stupid lol
That's great! Eventually someone else will get it and it'll be awesome!
I can't wait until Herr Hilary turns jerkoffs like Mr. Kodak into useful bars of soap.
Why do you eat MRE'S at school?
because our food sucks dick lol
But man... the amount of calories in an MRE. tell me you're not eating that every day
Good review
nice work Gman
Sweet channel!
I like putting some peanut butter on the cookie. just be sure to have the shake mix made because your going to need it!
really enjoyed this earned a sub! and a regular viewer and liker from now on
Thank you, and welcome to the channel! I appreciate it!

That was good thank you for the video.
The Vanilla Dairyshake powder icing was a brilliant idea. :D
I'm glad Gundog chose to showcase it. It worked out great!
+gschultz9 shut the fuck up. Why do you put in in a plate. Now it reminds me of school food. I'm reporting this video for misleading content.
+SirMcUltraSwagGAMING/mcpe 629 I actually like the part where he puts in in a plate.

I know right!!
what international ration that you reviewed weighed the most
I wonder why they don't have the water pack in the genuine MRE.
I like this mre.
Have you done a slovenian mre yet?

Awesome friend ! FRH worked great. Icing, drinks, looked good,. Entrée looks very good also friend. Great review. Peace, John, Magnum.
Thanks a lot Magnum! I was pretty happy with this one (especially the icing trick).
I ate an old 1967 MRE and have not been able to take a dump for 5 days.
Nice!
This reminds me of the LRP menu no. 8
Wow, making icing from the shake powder was different. :)

He is only 17
+Dank memes Maybe maybe not. If he is he is a very mature and wise person
It looks like A Pac forget the tabasco sauce or a packet of red pepper flakes. Other than that it looks like a pretty good meal.
I wanted to know how would I get a mre so I can start my channel and great video

Do most C/MRE's contain that much sugar content? 73 Grams seems like a lot. TX
How many times do you get food poisoning a year?
Why is it all spaghetti and meat sauce now. What happens to spaghetti and meatballs?
Not related to this video at all, just something I've notice over the last few years.
What s great video, you just gained a subscriber!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Pls where do u buy them from
That vanilla shake mix is almost like icing
where did you get it from

hey I have a totm of minestrone stew and I couldn't find any information on it do you know any thing about it

The SG on the entree pouch is the item code. It stands for "Spuh" and "Ghetti."
I'm sure I'm right...😆
That's awesome! I actually referred to is as possibly meaning "spaghetti", but realized it didn't make sense and edited it out. Wish I had thought of your code translation!
That's what I thought!!
Where can you buy MREs? What website? I want to try it, or is it only for Military Purposes?
Ebay

Oh no, i bought these things with my own money, they NEVER feed us.
Ah, okay, I see.
is their a possibility that a non military mre could go bad after 6 years but it's stored in normal conditions?
Oh definitely! Part of the reason for the thicker out packing in military MRE's (aside from durability) is keeping out light and some excess heat. Civilian MRE's sadly don't have that in most cases. +Andrew Baker thanks for the info!
My pleasure
That peanut butter ASMR
Is it bad that my mothers spaghetti looks like this?
Why do you not own "a rock or something " the sell on Amazon cheap
The salt water packet probably heats faster than the ordinary US flame less heaters!
The military version of the lunchable. Lol
See, Problem is, The Newer (at least 2016) A-Pack Spaghetti has around 1010 calories and a healthy 104g of sugar.
104G!!!!
Wow, that IS a lot of sugar!
@@gschultz9 I just checked again, It's 108G actually. This is the low sodium pack, lacking any drink mix, and only contains crackers, fig bars and skittles. So much for being more of a healthy Civilian MRE.
That's kind of funny (in a sad way). They make it "Low Sodium" to give the appearance of being more "healthy", and then ratchet up the sugar content!
@@gschultz9 I mean, yeah, most stuff that say they're healthy have a shit ton of sugar to compensate for the regular taste.
You eat that 3 times a day and you're gonna be an a diabetic coma.
Well if you eat it 3 times a day you'd most likely be in the military, and even then they don't eat everything.
+Ethan Litonjua Also, if you're in an emergency situation, you're gonna want all of that in you as you'll need every single calorie you can get.
-And, in a pinch. Your now rock hard rabbit turds will serve as sufficient projectiles if you're lacking ammo.
at which point you want british "biscuit browns" to liquidize and evacuate
Yah plus a dozen miles and running yep
You’re definitely from central mass 🤔 I am too 😂
It's that obvious?

Spaghetti? It's army noodles with ketchup.
No more lke chef boyardee stuffed into a tinfoil bag
Not quite as sweet though...
Am i the only one that feals hungry seeing this
