I'm in finals week of my junior year, so technically a rising senior, and I will definitely be sending you my college essay (once its written lol)!! Love these type of videos they help so much with de-stressing and calming myself down about this whole college process thing
One hundred percent agree about premed and AP credits, I took calculus and stats but most med schools prefer the university level equivalents despite my school technically accepting my APs
I’m so nervous about starting premed in the fall I hope I can get good grades for med school I’m gonna be on that grind 😱🤓 Thank you for this video VERY informative 🙏🙏🙏
This video was sooo helpful! I am an upcoming freshman at Brown and I’ve been looking at concentrating in Public Health also! I never thought about taking a Computer Science class, but it actually sounds like a great idea. Thanks guys 😊
This video was really helpful but I have two questions 1) How difficult is it to balance extracurriculars (e.g. research or internships) with the rigorous premed course-load and how many extracurriculars would you recommend taking on? 2) is there a certain way premeds should be spending their summers like taking extra classes or doing research? Thanks for all your advice!
You learn and master time management in college. It's definitely doable to balance research and other cocurricular commitments with your courses. However, just because you CAN join 6 clubs doesn't mean you SHOULD. I personally believe prioritizing and committing to a handful of activities is better than spreading yourself too thin. That being said, explore your first year and apply to as many things you're interested in as possible, then narrow it down from there. Anuva and I will probably talk about how to spend summers in a coming video!
So, I just recently became interested in pre med, but I’m about to be a senior in high school. I’m fairly concerned about the pre requisites since I’ve only taken chemistry and biology and I still lack organic chemistry as well as physics. My plan was to take anatomy and physiology as well as AP Environmental Science but I’m beginning to lean more towards Physics and AP Chemistry. I want to know what you both would recommend, as college students yourselves. Your video has been very helpful! Also I’ve always wondered what happens when you apply to college and your pre requisite classes are still in progress. Thanks so much!
Hey there! Feel free to send me an email. I will say that a very small number of students have taken organic chemistry in high school-it’s usually not offered and even if it is, the level of rigor is almost always not comparable to college orgo. Even if you have AP credit for chem, physics, or bio, you still have to take those classes in college. You might be able to use the credits to place out of lower level classes, but the required # of semesters of each science still stands. Hope this helped!
WHERE IS ANUVAS JACKET FROM AHHHH (ps. pretty sure im not going to go into pre med but this video was so great! i love the editing haha 💞💞 keep it up may lyyyy)
Thanks ur video is great. If I go for computer science major does this mean I am going to study more classes than a bio major as for pre med? Cuz computer science is separate than medicine and my major requirements should almost overlap with a bio major(pre med)
Check out the "Sample plans" link in the description. The 3-year plan means you take the MCAT in your junior spring semester and then apply for medical schools the summer before your senior year. This way, you will know your decisions in senior year and go directly to medical school without taking a gap year. The 4-year plan allows you to complete applications after your senior year. This is for people intending to take a gap year before going to medical school. Hope this cleared things up!
Hi I’m a big fan of ur videos! I was wondering if the 8 year med track where you automatically go to the brown medical school is a lot different from the traditional pre med track that you are doing?
currently finished my dental hygienist, and want to choose bachelor in dermal science as an undergraduate degree ... is that okey? in Australia.. Thank you
Hi Mary Gao and Anuva Mittal, thanks a lot for this. I'd be very glad if you can provide a platform through which I can contact you-I'd really appreciate if you'd be willing to be mentors to me. I am a freshman. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks a lot.
It could be different based on different colleges, but at my school pre-med isn't a major but a distinction on your transcript. As long as you can get into your college of choice, anyone can be premed regardless of highschool coursework. That being said, some competitive colleges do like to see AP coursework and it can help you get out of some of the difficult beginner courses like calculus or chemistry.
Assuming you plan on taking the MCAT after finishing your course requirements, the basic pre-med course requirements should be finished in 2-3 years instead of 4 if you want to apply without a gap year. Some students will finish their reqs in two years and take their MCAT the summer after sophomore year to apply straight in. You could also take your last reqs in your junior year and take the MCAT in the spring, but that leaves less time for a possible retake (if no gap year). Personally, I took the MCAT the summer after my junior year and will be taking a gap year. Kind of confusing, but hope this clarifies things a little!
Do you recommend skipping out of the intro bio class at brown? I am able to get credit for it, but I took ap bio in junior year so I am a little rusty on bio. Will my rusty knowledge of bio hinder my performance in upper div bio classes or future pre med required classes?
I personally used my AP credit. Taking BIOL 0200 would be redundant. Classes like physiology don’t really demand extensive AP bio knowledge and you’ll probably pick it up quickly. That being said, a solid foundation in bio definitely makes upper levels a lot easier. Check out the syllabus/textbooks if you’re still unsure and shop the classes. You can accept your AP credits up until you graduate so no rush to do it now!
Can I still take math0100 at Brown if I have credit for AP Calc BC? I will be taking AP Calc BC exam on Wed, I am not sure if I should take it or cancel it?

What made you guys want to switch majors from Biology to Public Health?
For people who stumble upon my channel through this video: I have made a video on why we chose public health. Check out my Being Pre-Med playlist

This was so helpful!!! Keep it up
Can you guys do a video on why you want to change your major to public health and what that major entails?
Thanks ur video is great.
If I go for computer science major does this mean I am going to study more classes than a bio major as for pre med? Cuz computer science is separate than medicine and my major requirements should almost overlap with a bio major(pre med)
My school does not run a biochemistry course. Will it affect my chances of getting into medical school?
This might be a strange question, but does it mean that you guys will graduate undergrad in 3 years instead of the traditional 4 years?

If you’re referring to the PLME program, there are many major differences from the traditional premed route. Definitely look into it!
this was so mf helpful. thank u (:
What do you think of nursing as a pre-med major?
Kidist Woldehawariat dont
@@TweenTime101 why not?
Im also looking into nursing as a pre med
@@kianarkinmercado7287 I was told not to go as a nursing major. Because you’re taking a spot from someone and nursing and MD/DO are different paths
@@TweenTime101 Ahh I see, but is a path to medicine through nursing a likely and possible path?
I LOVE Anuva sweater! Where did she get it???
I do the IB. Will colleges take credit from my IB grades?
depends on the college you go to! Some of them do, and some of them don't. Also varies depending on the courses.
Can Intro to Phys 1 with lab and Intro to Phys 2 with lab count towards my med school requirements ?
Depends
currently finished my dental hygienist, and want to choose bachelor in dermal science as an undergraduate degree ... is that okey? in Australia..

great video
Would you recommend going to brown plme or stanford? Thank you !
can you go into premed with biochemistry/molecular biology?
What about double majoring Political Science and Biology
Hi Mary Gao and Anuva Mittal, thanks a lot for this. I'd be very glad if you can provide a platform through which I can contact you-I'd really appreciate if you'd be willing to be mentors to me. I am a freshman. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks a lot.
Is public health and global health the same thing?
Do I need to take AP to get into pre med
It could be different based on different colleges, but at my school pre-med isn't a major but a distinction on your transcript. It is calculus a must in pre med majors?
Not all medical schools require calculus in college. Most calc requirements can be fulfilled with AP credit. Depends on the school!
Why is a gap year considered for 4 year instead of 3 year?
Assuming you plan on taking the MCAT after finishing your course requirements, the basic pre-med course requirements should be finished in 2-3 years instead of 4 if you want to apply without a gap year.
