Karate and Muay Thai are both the most effective martial art systems in my opinion. I believe this is because they actually fight it off with other styles such as shown in this video. Therefore, winning or losing simply serve to stimulate changes and upgrade for the existing system. Respect for both of theese styles.
@@kozenostudio yes that is the fact, I'm Thai, The purpose of Muay Thai ( Muay Thai Boran) was how will you kill and survived when you drop your sword and shield in a battlefield.
By the 3rd round, it's obvious that the karateka had no idea how to continue. He could not find the MT boxer's weakness, had no strategy, and was merely defending and trying to stay alive. Come the 4th round, his legs were wobbly, and at some points, he was being thrown or pushed about like a ragdoll.
Thai fighter - clearly superior footwork, conditioning and a very good fight strategy. A little unorthodox stance allowed for faster and more aggressive movement. Karateka was way outclassed. With all my admiration toward Kyokushinkai karate - yet when you square up against a Muai-Thai fighter - you just can't treat it as another round of kumite. Both the skill set, footwork and tactics have to change accordingly, or what we see here - will happen pretty much every time.
I think the Karate man just didn't know how to handle the Thai guy. The Thai just kept coming foward and absorbing anything he throw at him, the Karate guy did well to take that punishment and obviously has a big heart.
One have to remember one thing, Karate is a pure sport today, faar away from its originals. Barefoot, special clothings, has made karate a "Ballet sport" while Muay Thai is still close to its original form and therefor more effective.
I think the Karate guy awaits Karate attacks and not these painfull knees, combinations and power. And he learned that a black belt is nice in a Dojo but a Ring isnt a Dojo.

This is one of the first encounters between Muay Thai and Karate. The Karate guy is Tadashi Sawamura who later on trained with Japanese kickboxing and came back to defeat the same Muay Thai fighter in a rematch.
True, but its a combination of karate, boxing and muay thai. The idea is to blend all and come up with something that is not just muay thai. You can tell by the movements of kickboxers how these were blended. The footwork is different. The punches are also different. Matial arts has always prospered with combining arts and not just sticking to one style. IF its a rip off then so be it. But a rip off means everything would be the same. In this case, it isn't.

OMG...This fight took place on 21st June 1941 or just the beginning of World War II. It was such a legendary record. Personally I think combining Karate and Muay Thai is better than only practising Muay Thai but if I had to choose I would go for Muay Thai, the style of practice is much more practical.
Explorshon lets see karate suposed to be kinda MMA style in his roots (proyections, pinches and kicks in the floor, dirty technikes and also finger uses lol) but at that time karate was a formal sport with no head punches or Kick to the legs. also very true that Muay Thai happened the same, but It became a more complet sport though. i would love to see a match between ancient and karate fighter and Muay boran warrior. they probably kill eachother lol
Wow!!! Even by "no below the belt rules" Muay Thai fighters have proven that power & toughness conditioning can bull dose through just about any opponent.
Mas Oyama (founder of Kyokushin) took 3 of his best fighters to Thailand in the early years of their style. They lived there, trained ate slept...everything, trained in corrugated iron sheds to acclimatize themselves to the Thai conditions. Seido Juku karate founder Tadashi Nakamura was one of thos guys and he was one of the 2 guys that beat the Thai's at their own game. Not many can vouch for that title as the real Muay Thai fighters are hard as...thats all they do!!
Interesting bout. The Karate Fighter put fourth a good effort but the Thai Fighter was splendid. He had it all: conditioning, speed, decent power, rhythm and coordination ... Beautiful to watch.

bruh the karate guy was crippled half way through the fight. he was in there on instinct and grit alone. its a miracle that he didnt get knocked out sooner than he did and i take that up to the muay thai guy not really being a power puncher and wanting to punish the body instead. he was hardly defending himself after a certain point. they should have stopped the fight. i cant imagine how he felt the next day
Very interesting, what year was this? I remember being a kid, and training in Karate... with the same uniform. The martial arts was so mystical and powerful. I train in muay thai now / mma. It's amazing to see these styles fight eachother in the early stages, when no one really knew eachothers style (I think). Now mma is such a different game, you have to know stand up and things like BJJ.
Everyone should to know, Thai fighter just safe Japanese fighter till round4. Because Thai fighter just consider costumer that he know they buy an expensive ticket. He just want to entertain costume. I watch many Muay Thai. But this fight Thai fighter he look really relaxing.

vail vailor Yes, also they change names and call everything ancient or traditional, like Sanda i.e. Chinese kick boxing was created based on Muay Thai but now they call it Shaolin and claim that it is thousands of years old when in reality it was created in the 70's after Kung fu fighters were defeated by Muay Thai fighters in a contest. sanshou or sanda is a practical fighting version of kung fu,the concept of sanda is indeed thousend years old, it's first version was called shou bo, and is known that already in the warring states period it was used to train soldiers, sanda is a modern refined version of free fighting with some shaolin techniques, it's completely different and has nothing to do with muay thay
That's a poor comment. I'm Thai people, i can't stand to lecture you about our history. Burma, Cambodia and Thailand martial art share the same root (it's pity that no evidence where it started) and we all fought all along more than 300 years, none of us better than anyone. It just battle between neighborhood , we spied on each other all the time so we know each other too well. You really can't say who's the best. since today we still have friendship match every year.
One of the best fights ive seen!.. till the third round at least. Then it becomes too obvious that the ref wants the karate fighter to win. He counted less and less falls as knock downs and actually HELPS the karate fighter get up a few times. Very dishonorable

Personally I think combining Karate and Muay Thai is better than only practising Muay Thai but if I had to choose I would go for Muay Thai, the style of practice is much more practical.
Explorshon lets see karate suposed to be kinda MMA style in his roots (proyections, pinches and kicks in the floor, dirty technikes and also finger uses lol) but at that time karate was a formal sport with no head punches or Kick to the legs. also very true that Muay Thai happened the same, but It became a more complet sport though. i would love to see a match between ancient and karate fighter and Muay boran warrior. they probably kill eachother lol

Mas Oyama (founder of Kyokushin) took 3 of his best fighters to Thailand in the early years of their style. They lived there, trained ate slept...everything, trained in corrugated iron sheds to acclimatize themselves to the Thai conditions. Seido Juku karate founder Tadashi Nakamura was one of thos guys and he was one of the 2 guys that beat the Thai's at their own game. Not many can vouch for that title as the real Muay Thai fighters are hard as...thats all they do!!

@@carlosandres1835 it's kudo that you really talkking about. kudod means combination of kyokushin and judo(include ground game) =kudo yes they use headbutt and judo throw or sweep.
bruh the karate guy was crippled half way through the fight. he was in there on instinct and grit alone. its a miracle that he didnt get knocked out sooner than he did and i take that up to the muay thai guy not really being a power puncher and wanting to punish the body instead. he was hardly defending himself after a certain point. they should have stopped the fight. i cant imagine how he felt the next day

This is probably the best Muay Thai vs Karate fight I seen.
Very interesting, what year was this? I remember being a kid, and training in Karate... with the same uniform. The martial arts was so mystical and powerful. I train in muay thai now / mma. It's amazing to see these styles fight eachother in the early stages, when no one really knew eachothers style (I think). Now mma is such a different game, you have to know stand up and things like BJJ.

sanshou or sanda is a practical fighting version of kung fu,the concept of sanda is indeed thousend years old, it's first version was called shou bo, and is known that already in the warring states period it was used to train soldiers, sanda is a modern refined version of free fighting with some shaolin techniques, it's completely different and has nothing to do with muay thay

That's a poor comment. I'm Thai people, i can't stand to lecture you about our history. Burma, Cambodia and Thailand martial art share the same root (it's pity that no evidence where it started) and we all fought all along more than 300 years, none of us better than anyone. It just battle between neighborhood , we spied on each other all the time so we know each other too well. You really can't say who's the best. since today we still have friendship match every year.

One of the best fights ive seen!.. till the third round at least. Then it becomes too obvious that the ref wants the karate fighter to win. He counted less and less falls as knock downs and actually HELPS the karate fighter get up a few times. Very dishonorable
