@@macurlyfriesidk man, I don’t think I even know of any UK podcasters at all. What’s worth listening to? I probably won’t listen, but still. I know there’s the scouse lads who had Gillis on but that seems more like a podcast that’s reliant on guests.

Most comedians, U.S or UK aren’t that funny, the Rogan sphere and the SNL sphere being the worst offenders. Even the so called great ones like Burr aren’t that funny anymore.
Robbie Williams wasnt just a UK star. He was a world star except for US. Still holds the world record for most tickets sold in a day for his world tour back in the 2000's
There's a certain irony to complaining about who Robbie Williams is given the topic of who's a well known comedian in the UK / US is part of this video 🙂
In 2003 Robbie Williams had three concerts in three days back to back with a total of 375.000 attendees. That's God tier superstardom. He's just one of those performers who was born to be a showman and he never hid his good nor bad sides. His song "Come undone" tells you everything about who he is. He was never supposed to be star, yet he became one of the biggest ones. Great talk with Romesh. Keep up the great work.
Canadian here, had no idea who Robbie was until I started working on a cruise ship in 1998. All the staff onboard were Brits and they were shocked that i had never heard the song Angels when they played it for me. From that day on I was a big fan of Robbie's music and persona, he's so entertaining. He's like a mix of Freddy Mercury & Frank Sinatra.
Angels really was inescapable in the UK from the 90s onwards. Definitely on the level of a non-consensual U2 download. Angels and Wonderwall are basically hymns here
This is why i love u chris! I would have never imagined this collab😂 romesh is so fucking funny as a human, i would have never imsgined him being on the podcast but u are fucking tuned in with everything!😂 and romesh is genuinly huge in the uk, like my 65 year old mam knows and loves him hes huge! He has every audience.. but only you would just randomly have romesh on the pod i fucking love it mate!!❤
Robbie Williams is one of the highest-selling artists in the history of recorded music. Romesh undersold his popularity. He was/is massive essentially everywhere other than the US. His peak was between 97-07, which was the final era of physical media being the dominant form of media. For context, if BTS had been active in those years, arguably nobody in the States would've heard of them either, such is the power of digital media now. In that ten year period, you could still be wildly famous in many countries and unknown in the US.
This is amazing. Love Romesh, his Ancestry DNA episode into his family was Amazing. Chris, thank you for doing a comedy episode and getting a rock star from the UK. So many comedy podcasts in the U.S. recycle the same 15 comedians as guests. Love this episode/podcast! Carpe Diem Chris!
I was born and raised in America to southern American parents and I grew up listening to Robbie Williams. I was obsessed with his album “The Ego Has Landed” when I was a kid. A fact about him, he actually spends most of his time living in LA just so he can live a somewhat normal life and not get recognized everywhere. I just hope he does at least one more American tour because I’ve never gotten to see him!
@@charlielumley8889 narcissist or not he makes great music. Look him up🤷🏻 Josh Groban even made a cover of his song “Angels”. One of my favorites of his.
100% agree with Romesh with what he said about Chris like as a long time fan of Chris from the UK I love how refreshing of a comedian he is like how honest, direct and humble also what he talks about mental health and how it's a stigma for men to feel its always been a draw in for me not a draw back.
I saw Robbie Williams last week in Australia whilst he’s promoting his movie. The movie was filmed in Australia and the director is Australian as well. He said that the director came to him with the idea of the movie and told Robbie that he would be an animated character and everyone else would be human. The director apparently asked him what his spirit animal or what his favourite animal is and he replied back with a lion but apparently the director said that a lion wouldn’t work and that it would be better if the animal was a monkey. But who knows maybe he just said that to have some sort of reason or maybe they didn’t find a good actor to play him.
Jonno Davies is a great actor who completely embodies Rob! The film is told from his own perspective, how he sees himself - a performing monkey. He feels unevolved because his emotional growth was stunted when he became famous at 16.
We love you here in England babe, I’ve been a fan since the pandy wandy and make no mistake I’ve been telling my friends to watch you even though they don’t care it’s what it is cuz

Yeah Robbie Williams is 100% big enough to have a biopic in the UK, he’s arguably one of our biggest pop stars of the last 30 years. He did a tune with Nicole Kidman back in the day, so I thought you guys in the US knew him to.
You have to be a certain age and into pop music to have known him in the US. He got a little bump because of two songs but after that disappeared from the charts.
Yes Romesh! UK Representing 🇬🇧💪 Loved his stuff from the beginning. Legend. And to not know who Take That or Robbie Williams are, seems INSANE to me. Absolutely wild!
As a Brit it feels like in America Seinfeld and Friends are at a similar level in popularity but in the UK Seinfeld had zero impact. Frasier is very popular and Roseanne, Golden Girls and Fresh Prince were big and Raymond and King of Queens stared being shown at breakfast time on TV and have got popular after they had already ended.
