I find it absolutely amazing that a freaking anime not only emulates it's source material impeccably, but also taught me the rules so well that I can get really excited about the real thing without understanding a word of Japanese. Just makes me appreciate Chihayafuru even more.

Anime makes the most niche/specific things so epic and important, it is honestly cool to learn and open up myself to new worlds through anime. Heck I learnt cooking from shokugeki no souma, brass instruments from hibike euphoniumm, classical music from your lie in april, animation from shirobako

I completed the two seasons of chihayafuru in 2 days and the manga in 2 days also, I couldn't stop because of Karuta . By the way, the manga is really interesting and it's not not finished yet .
Guilty as charged, as I'm just another newly minted Chihayafuru fanboy, 11 or so episodes into that show's 1st season and loving it. I wouldn't have known this game existed if not for that. Amazing how anime can get one exposed to things outside their everyday surroundings. I don't think I have the mental capacity for this type of memorization, nor quickness for competitive karuta though. This was fascinating and fun to watch. Those two ladies are insanely FAST! Woah! O_O!

I'm here 6 years later because I wanted to see if Chihayafuru wasn't exaggerating. But based from this video, I can say that everything in the anime is real. They really are fast. Their hands move so fast thar I can't fully grasp who got which card. I'm even shocked that the commentators, or whoever's there to watch, can tell who got which ever card.
yea i still dont understand how the game works and how the judge could catch up whats happening and who got the right cards but thats japanese for ya, they operate on another level

I have no idea about chihayafuru but I do know the anime I found out about karuta was detective Conan movie 21. And the playing here is so cool! they're like, lighting fast I didn't even know humans could be that fast!
