Are you or your swimmer struggling to achieve the breaststroke kick? Watch this video for a tutorial on correcting scissor-kick or frog-kick into a proper breaststroke whip kick!
I kept having problems with the kick, people told me all my life that the frog thingy is correct, while I always end up doing the asymmetrical (the first one).. Thanks for showing both! I'll apply it next time and start stretching :)
Interesting. I'm 72 and I can only swim the breast stroke. But obviously I've been doing this wrong, I've been doing the best imitation of the frog around, including nearly croaking at the end of the swim! But I'd really like to be able to do the crawl, as I'm really envious of all those swimmers who effortlessly glide past me at three times my speed.
I have partial cerebral palsy so my left foot has trouble turning my left foot out. How do I turn it out properly? I have to really focus on turning it out to do the kick.
Has anyone tried the wall stretching exercises on the floor instead? So the inside of the feet and the knees are on the floor and the same goal of trying to get the botttom to be on the same plane?
If you're not in the Olympics you're probably better off ignoring most this lesson, with the exception of that stretch, definitely do the stretch because improved hip and foot mobility will help no matter what kind of stroke you're doing, but I'm 99% certain the frog kick is functionally superior.
She's not saying the toes should be out of the water, she's saying they should be turned out to the sides. That's what she means by having the toes out.
Actually Lara swims well in Rise of the Tomb Raider, for the environment she's in. This is a laid-back breaststroke. Lara's version is big wide kick for a strong propulsion forward for, in real life, a short period of time, i.e. for escaping.
You guys seriously think this helped just like that? The reason she got him to demostrate is because he was good at breaststroke in the first place. I think these may help but over a longer period of time.

Great explanation, best vid I've seen on breaststroke kick (and I've watched a few!) Many thanks!
This was very insightful. After today and 63 years 5 months and three days of doing it wrong, I think I will be able to do it right.
Until now the most informative and instructional video about breaststroke kick that I have seen. Tanks
My coach never taught me this and I never knew that I was doing the kick wrong the entire time! I appreciate you showing me the correct way. 😊
POLICE! Stop right there! You have performed an illegal breaststroke kick!

It looks like his wedge(frog) kick is as effective as his whip kick, even though it's not efficient but it seems work for him.

interesting because we teach toes never come out the water. I guess every one teaches different
After watching five videos I've seen five completely different training methods for the Breaststroke.
