I like the idea of Cedar Fair focusing on theming and appearance. It's not that they need to turn their parks into Disney, Universal or even Herschend or SeaWorld parks. But having a sense that your rides and lands complement each other is more satisfying. Nothing is more dull at an amusement park than seeing a big hunk of metal set on a black top with no plants, shade or care for aesthetics. No one needs this ride to be The Jungle Cruise. We all know where to go to find that. But having a sense of identity, color and story really adds a lot.
I’d say the cedar fair parks that have some of this theming is way better than the seaworld parks cause everything there is just painted blue or aqua or something like that called theming
@@sideeswipe I think SeaWorld theming is sometimes quite immersive. The wild arctic areas, the entry ways and Pacific Point Preserve areas are usually well done. And all of the Journey to Atlantis areas (including to some extent San Antonio) are nicely themed. I also include the immersiveness of the animal exhibits, especially at San Diego and Orlando. Some zoo and aquarium exhibits (with some notable exceptions) at traditional zoos and aquariums are not as well themed and immersive as the exhibits at SeaWorld.
But that's just the normal SeaWorld parks. Busch Gardens parks are very well themed, especially Williamsburg. I don't think any Cedar Fair park comes close to the theming and immersiveness of BGW. The only Cedar Fair park that I think really serves as a true theme park is Knotts Berry Farm, which is admittedly a phenomenal park. But the Kings parks and Carowinds only have loose theming, but they are still charming and aesthetically pleasing. And Cedar Point is definitely an amusement park with some hints of theming here and there but it isn't trying to be a theme park and no one expects it to be.
My point is that parks don't need to devote themselves to being theme parks in order to embrace some amount of theming and when done well it really adds to the experience. Think about the back end of Cedar Point where they have a bit of an old west theme. It's not really over the top or immersive and it doesn't feel like it's trying to be Frontierland. But the light theming really elevates that area, which is saying something when it already includes two elite coasters.
@@zacg_ Hersheypark has been giving more focus and love to their brands as part of their theme lately! Where would you rank them amongst Six Flags, Cedar Fair, and SeaWorld parks in terms of theming?
As long as the coaster is elite I don’t care about theming
cedar fair seems to be developing into the perfect middle ground between an amusement park and a theme park. It’s nowhere near as crazy as a universal or disney and maybe a step down from busch gardens, but volumes above a six flags or fun spot.
A winged coaster would be perfect in this area. Bush Gardens Williamsburg nor Six Flags America has one. Perfect to be themed with that crashed plane in the story.

That would that Tumbili both have that on the side of the track feeling and they are both right next to each other. It's like if you put a free spin next to a 4d coaster.
I think it would be cool if they put a launch on the wing coaster like thunderbird and theme the launch to an airport or something. it would fit the area nicely.

Dragon Slayer at Adventureland has a similar setup where one side flips more than the other. They even have the lines labeled as “Squire” and “Knight” to differentiate the sides.
And from the POVs I’ve seen- dragon slayer’s knight side is insane
Its crazy seeing this type of theming in KD when compared to the pretty sad, lackluster theming for Busch Gardens Williamsburg's Pantheon. Both are my home parks and I never would have guessed if you told me this would happen years ago.

Cedar Fair has been kicking up their teaser campaigns, storytelling, and theming for the past few years. Mystic, SteVe, Orion, Copperhead and now Timbili are all impressive!
Thank you for this excellent update on KD. I have been a season’s pass holder for years. Last year was very disappointing with no avalanche, very long lines, the waterpark had only one wave pool open. The park was understaffed & very dirty.
Although it’s very hard to replace Volcano. Volcano was one of its kind. I’m very glad they brought back a ride very similar to Avalanche which is one of my favorite rides. The Tumbili looks amazing & the park looks like an improvement from last couple years.
prediction: Phase 2 will be the "Temples" By Incorperating Flight of fear, And/Or Anaconda, Intimidator will stay the same, and Phase 3 will be a volcano replacement

When I went, the I305 operator said to enjoy the rest of our day in jungle expedition, so I’m definitely interested what they are going to do with rides like flight of fear and anaconda
Anaconda is referenced as a possible "Temple" on the themed area map (9 possible animal themes grouped into 3 sets of 3) instead of being lumped with the other 3 newly re-themed rides, which seems like an implicit acknowledgement that it's both part of the area but also highly likely to be replaced in the medium-term.
Im visiting KD on sunday for the first time. Excited to see what Jungle X is like

I was at kd July and me and my friends saw some people in the closed off volcano lot on the Tumbili chain lift.
This Rollercoaster actually surprised me. I set the bar low on it but the flipping factor is a whole different ball game. its super fun. and I put it over flight of fear or anaconda anyday. Kinda hope they put in a SkyHawk style ride as well in the safari themed area. Still want to see A Volcano replacement. Maybe with some good air time?
I think a good replacement for Volcano was a be a duplicate of Steel Vengeance. Gong through and around a mountain. Huge and fast!
After not going to KD for… forever I really want to head back this summer
I suspect the shorter layout because that's what would fit.
Idk if I'd like Tumbili as much as the other free spins cause I want more flipping and its longer.
I'm excited to see what KD does in the next 5 years. Seems like we may seem a small coaster war between BGW and KD, maybe SFA will finally join as well lol. I really hope the increased theming becomes a trend with all CF parks.
Idea: Tilt Coaster that tilts into a volcano. Get to reference the old ride, fits the theme, re-use queue.
You didn't mention the speakers playing drum beats or the monkey sounds on Tumbli but overall you did an amazing job capturing how well they have improved the area..... once you tie in that Volcano replacement then we are cooking with gas

The crypt was a great ride, especially when the fire was working.

The Airstrip is going to be painted and they have a little plane to put on the end of it

I honestly believe that KD was put on the back burner because some other parks needed to be built up first. When volcano closed, CF realized that it was time to pour some attention into KD.

I saw them pushing the backstory on twitter but doubt any GP will have any idea. I’d also accept a multi launch coaster but ROI is a thing.
Technically they are part of the area anaconda has a temple on the map and i305 is kings peak in the back. I think they should get a dueling flying coaster where you either board a sort of flying creature or a mechanical flying machine the flying machine would be more intense and the story would be this flying creature side you are flying around with the flying creature to save the secret of the temple and the flying machine would be you are boarding a flying machine built to discover the secret of the avian temple and you follow the flying creature to find the temple until it notices you and attempts to protect the secret of the temple.
I think it’s a good replacement for the crypt despite it being a 4d free spin also the new area is fantastic
Now I want Cedar Fair to tear down Kings Island’s Crypt building and put a 4D free spin there.
They may never put a Tumbili sign up on the ride because they never did recently

anaconda is probably in the expedition but it should get removed with the addition of volcanoes replacement and then the replacement for anaconda be part of a like Racer Section maybe with a intamin hot racer or rmc single rail car
I think it is actually wild that Cedar Fair not only got a free spin but they got a smaller free spin than Six Flags buys. Definitely a change in Corporate Culture at CF post pandemic.
Any plans this year to cone to London and do winter wonderland Hyde park. You can do a few amazing coasters and also try a few of the best rides europe has to offer.

its funny how when someone talks about a six flags free spin they always talk about how it is a major cloned ride that does nothing but when they talk about a cedar fair free spin they say it is a great ride and fits in well and is also a very good addition lol

Can’t say I’d agree with the “BEST THEMED 4-D free spin” my heart sets on my home park, fiesta Texas . Our original is best themed in my opinion.

Let’s not forget the bat mobile, holograph train in the queue, the theme music during the ride, story boards in the queue, etc. Just everything about this ride makes it better from the other ones🤷🏽♂️

How about a more clear description such as "the side facing the main walkway", or "the side facing the queue", or "the west side"?

International street is close I'd say, but this area is more cohesive.
@@coleaf5220 Old Virginia, you mean? That area is definitely the best part of the park. The river rapids there is themed very nicely (feels more like it belongs at BGW) and the log flume has that nice ground-level layout through the woods. (And I used to love Grizzly when I was a kid, but now I just find it painful. Oh well.)

@@MeatTwizzler I saw a TikTok post that someone has posted on Reddit talking about Tumbli and ways people pronounce it. One of the ways they said was wrong was volcano replacement.

The 4D Free Spins are absolute pieces of poop, but they look incredible in park skylines. It is really fun to watch them run.
